FAQs
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
During my initial interview, I listen carefully for the goals of the prospective student. Once we agree that my approach is suitable for the student, and we begin lessons, I design a curriculum that will help the student learn and progress at his or her own pace. We discuss progress and goals frequently if the student is above age 12, otherwise, this discussion takes place with the parents of the child.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I earned my Bachelors of Science in Primary Education and a minor in music in 1972 from Appalachian State University, Boone, NC. I earned my Masters in Education the following year, specializing in reading. My minor in music along my education major gave me a secure background. I was also a piano pupil for 15 years - through college. I have attended local clinics and workshops in the area.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been teaching - and loving it - since I was a teen. It is a joy and privilege to help others learn new skills and gain knowledge. I majored in education because I knew I wanted to teach. I started out in public school and then homeschooled both of my children. As my role as a teacher changed, I was able to combine my love for piano AND teaching into a piano studio, which has thrived for nearly 20 years!
