Sorry this pro can’t do your job, but we know other pros who can.
Introduction: Visual Style: My work looks unique compared to other photographers. Knowledge: I know photography and lighting inside and out and have dozens more techniques and tools than my competitors who are very limited in what they bring to the table. Fashion Background: I've shot fashion professionally, so I know how to make all people look their best through lighting, posing, and lensing. Creativity: Having spent a long time in the ultra-competitive world of magazines, I'm used to an intensely visual and varied medium where images have to be eye-catching to keep a reader's attention. Reliability: I'm used to deadlines and editors who don't wait. I like that every day I get to creatively problem solve. Each of our corporate clients has unique image needs (weather they know it or not) and that we take time to listen and construct a solution for their brand. If we shot cookie cutter photos, it'd drive me bonkers.

I have hired Fenix Fotography each year since 2011 to photo-document the annual convention I've been coordinating for more 13 years. Prior to hiring Ryan, we had no professional photographer ... now, our more than 220 annual attendees would complain loudly and often to me if he wasn't on the job providing memorable, superb quality images for them to download after the event. His work also provides us with outstanding marketing images to use in promoting next year's convention. Ryan's unique talent and professionalism, combined with a great eye for catching the perfect still image that conveys real life emotions, make him an indispensable part of our annual convention. I wouldn't even think of hiring any other photographer and consider Ryan a co-worker, not a contractor, for the weekend that he spends with us every year.

I've worked with Ryan many times over the years - with a magazine we published (and he was the photography editor) as well as other endeavors with myself and my partner. His work is always consistent, creative, and spot on!

I hired Ryan for several of my Martial Arts events. Not only was he professional and easy to work with, his photos came out outstanding! We had so many to choose from and we couldn't have been happier with his services. Ryan has a great eye and is very professional.

I hired Fenix Fotography in 2013 to shoot an event. Ryan is amazing to work with, keeps everyone at ease, and ensures that his presence does not invade the space of any guests. I love the final images (and all his other work)! I would highly recommend him for any photography needs!

FAQs

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I recently underwent the CPP (Certified Professional Photographer) process through the Professional Photographers of America. Basically it consisted of passing a set of comprehensive exams and a stringent portfolio review. To maintain my certification, I have to accumulate continuing education points for classes and workshops throughout the year.

  • How did you get started doing this type of work?

I've been an artist as long as I can remember. First crayons, then pencils/pastels, eventually lots and lots of paint. I started shooting for art purposes when I was 15. After college, I took a job as a retoucher/designer/photo production coordinator at a local museum. In 2003 I founded Fenix Fotography and built it into one of Charlotte's most recognized photography brands. In the years since I've provided images for advertising and worked as head photographer for several local magazines.

  • What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?

Find a photographer whose work you really like. Shop on quality and not price--these photos will be used a long time and if they are shoddy it will reflect poorly on you and your company. Meet with them and see if they are listening to your needs and that you get along. Make sure they have extensive training and experience and can handle the job.
