We are very pleased with our choice of Frank to do the job of putting together and installing our IKEA kitchen. Anyone who has put together IKEA furniture before knows it's quite a task! He is a family-owned business and works wonderfully with his son and wife. It was a pleasure getting to know them, all while watching our kitchen come together! Frank is thorough and precise about his decisions, always making sure we were happy. He saved us a good chunk of money, costing significantly less than the cost of the IKEA installers, while still doing a professional job. Best of all, we created a friendship with him and his family. They were so sweet to our 5 & 2 year old sons and were beyond trustworthy. Sometimes when you hire someone to do work in your home that requires a few days to accomplish, you can't wait to just have it done and have 'strangers' out of your house. I can honestly say that it was hard to say goodbye to him and his family when the job was done. Thank you Frank! We would do it all over again if we had to. We will add photos of the finished kitchen when our backsplash is done later this week!

They're good people. They actually did my kitchen twice because the first time wasn't right. I respect that and recommend them to anyone looking for handyman services.

Jose installed us kitchen bar pendants, he was able to come up with a creative solution on how to do that and minimize the damage to wall & ceiling. Very happy about the result, and the price is well justified. He also did install us a fan in a kids room and a garage outlet. Both worked out very well.

I hired Bob to put up a tile backsplash in my kitchen and he did a great job! He provided an estimate which was what he charged (so no surprises) and arrived on time and got the job done quickly. I would highly recommend and we would definitely use him again.

Joe and Tina were a pleasure to work with. This was my first home and I was so overwhelmed when it came to changing the floors to what I wanted and understanding why other companies cost so much. Tina took the time to assist me with purchasing my carpet, and took many phone calls from me about the laminate I was desperately seeking out. Joe and his crew were clean, respectful of my belongings, and stayed on schedule (which is a dream in construction). This team is extremely knowledgeable and down to earth, and I have already referred him to several co-workers looking for new flooring. The wood laminate looks wonderful, as does the carpet in the living room, hall and stairs, and I was able to save some money. I am now looking forward to him installing tile in the kitchen soon!

Ben was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end! We had purchased a home and had the walls, ceiling, trim, doors and mantle painted in the entry way, kitchen, living rm, dining rm, hallway and main bath. His crew did an excellent job on patching the walls first, painting and clean up. The crew was professional and courteous and went above and beyond with a leak in the bathroom sink (That was not on the job list). Andy noticed the pipe under the sink was leaking and went out to his truck to get teflon tape to make the repair and advised us that that would help stop the leak but to replace the p trap. In this day and age it is hard to come by contractors that do the job they are hired for let alone go above and beyond…But that’s just what Ben’s crew did!! The house looks amazing and it was seamless, stress free and done on time! Ben communicates through the entire process and makes you feel like you are his only customer. We also had all the carpets cleaned and they look beautiful! I will definitely be hiring Ben again for other projects and have already recommended him to friends and relatives. Buying a home and doing renovations can be very stressful and Ben made it completely stress free. Hire Ben and his crew and you will not be disappointed!!

Bruce did an incredible job! I needed a new exterior door as the current one had rotted in the bottom. Bruce came out quickly and gave me a couple of options on how to replace my door. He ordered the door and had it directly shipped to my house. He was able to start a couple of days later. He was meticulous with his work. He made sure the door fit the new tile we had placed in our kitchen (had to raise the door a bit). Everything looks incredible at an extremely competitive price. Look forward to using him in the future!

Working with Bob was a great experience. We recently bought a new house with a circa 1996 kitchen and are selling our former home with a circa 1999 kitchen. He painted the outdated cabinets, installed classic subway tile backsplashes, arranged for granite to be installed and made the outdated kitchens really shine. His team also removed wallpaper in several rooms of our new house, smoothed out the walls which were a mess after the wallpaper removal and painted them to perfection. Bob was very accommodating to special requests and updates that we decided on as we started to see things come together. Bob and his team were great to work with, did great work and I can highly recommend them to anyone in need of a kitchen update or other projects.

Dan and his team are AMAZING and I feel so grateful to have found them! They are excited to work on my home which included almost an entire remodel...Removing walls in the kitchen for an open floorpan, completely remodeling the kitchen, moving a bathroom, moving the laundry room upstairs and creating a mudroom in it's place. Building into unused attic space to create a walk in closet and bathroom in my daughter's bedroom and remodeling and rearranging our master bathroom. Not to mention all the new flooring, cabinets, and drywall where there was once popcorn ceilings. And they were EXCITED to do it. Most people I interviewed were overwhelmed at the task or WAY too expensive. He was priced fairly yet the work quality is far superior to other remodeled homes I have seen. Don't even waste your time with other companies. I love that I felt like we were working together as a team and he was always willing to spend time with me making sure I felt comfortable with each step!

Hello All!! My husband and I recently bought a home and decided the kitchen needed to go immediately. We completely gutted the kitchen and replaced everything from top to bottom. Jenny made the entire process stress free and kept everything organized. With her management, support, and guidance, we were able to complete our project in an organized, timely manner. I would recommend her to anyone looking for assistance on any project from full renovation to simple redesign. Thanks so much Jenny and I look forward to working together on all our future projects!!

John was amazing! He took on 3 house projects for us at once and everything came out perfectly. He remodeled our kitchen, master bath vanity, and added a room to our large playroom complete with barn doors! Truly couldn't be happier with the way everything turned out. Javi showed up to my home the same day I requested him. We were in a pinch and needed our ceiling repaired and painted before we had buyers come in. The previous owners put a wall patch on the ceiling and it obviously failed. Javi came into my home @6pm same day and replaced the patch very quickly. He came back the next day after it dried and sanded and painted my entire kitchen ceiling. I am beyond impressed with the services we received. I will definitely be calling Javi should we find ourselves in need of help again.

We used Zachary in a remodeling project of our kitchen, family room, sunroom, and half bath. His professional manner in which he helped us choose color, texture, design, and functional products was so necessary for our project. Zach listened to us, paid attention to our style, but pushed beyond our comfort zone just a bit to keep us from being "stuck" and we are so grateful. He went to the trouble of offering numerous designs in numerous price ranges, which we appreciate. I would recommend Zach and would absolutely use him again.

Mike and Angel cam out and did q complete remodel of our bathroom, kitchen, and basement area. They were very precise on the detail and craftsmanship. They also did all the lighting and designed some of parts we didnt have planned out yet. We are going to use there Christmas lighting company for the holidays this year for the 1st time. I've seen some of there work with decor and it is also too of the line. We would definitely give them a call again and recommend. Sara M

Cheryl helped us w/ our new construction from the ground up! She was so helpful in every aspect of the decision process and took the much of the stress of building a new home away! She is professional and really listens to what her customers want, not what she wants for her customer! We have continued to work w/ her over the past 6 years and are always amazed at how quickly and easily she gets things done! I would NEVER consider using any other designer! We love Cheryl!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do interior designers do?

Interior designers do much more than pick complementary paint colors and choose matching furniture — although those tasks are important parts of the job. Unlike decorators, interior designers usually have an associate of science degree or certificate of achievement in interior design from an accredited program. They’re trained in drafting, lighting and computer aided design (CAD), and are experts in room-specific design and residential space planning. Interior designers use these skills to plan and design safe, highly functional and beautiful interior spaces, from kitchens and bathrooms to family rooms and bedrooms. They determine space requirements, work within building codes and inspection regulations, and meet accessibility standards. An interior designer’s day-to-day job includes creative and technical tasks, both of which often require great communication skills:

  • Creating model rooms and visuals using design software.
  • Researching different textiles, materials, finishes, lighting and furniture.
  • Hiring suppliers, vendors, and contractors.
  • Estimating costs and making bids on potential jobs.

How do you find a good interior designer?

For many homeowners, the difference between a good interior designer and a bad one is simply a matter of taste — but all good designers have similar skill sets. Interior designers usually have a degree or certificate in interior design, with training in design principles and lighting, drafting, and computer aided design (CAD) software. Good interior designers have strong color balancing skills and understand how different colors influence spatial perception and moods. They know the building and electrical codes in the areas where they practice, and they make sure that any contractors they hire also work to those codes. They are knowledgeable about different upholstery fabrics and draperies, stay ahead of residential design trends, and maintain their own individual creativity. Also, good interior designers have excellent space designing skills, so they can arrange a space efficiently and with ideal traffic flow. Ultimately, hiring a good interior designer means pinpointing one whose signature style is complementary to your personal style — so checking out many designers’ portfolios is a must — and whose communication methods match yours.

How do you choose an interior designer?

Choosing an interior designer is all about finding one whose signature style fits well with your tastes and who can work within your budget. To choose the right professional for your interior design project, ask yourself these five questions:

  • What is your signature style? Good interior designers can both describe their personal aesthetic and demonstrate their signature style through their portfolios. Make sure it appeals to you.
  • How will you make sure the design fits my lifestyle? Good designers understand that the interior design must improve a homeowner’s experience in their home and fit into their lifestyle; for example, a white suede sofa is a poor choice for a family with large dogs and small children.
  • How much do you charge? Depending on the project, an interior designer may charge an hourly rate, a flat fee or a percentage of the project’s total cost.
  • How will you stick to my budget? An interior designer should have a plan for staying within your budget, which includes full transparency of costs and flexibility when choosing materials and furnishings.

Because an interior design project is highly collaborative and based on hard-to-define personal preferences, it’s most important to choose a designer who communicates clearly and listens closely to you.

How much do interior designers charge?

You can hire an interior design for a job as basic as a one-room consultation or as complex as supervising the design of an entire new home, helping with space planning, choosing color palettes, and shopping for furniture, flooring and artwork. The size and scope of the job will determine how much an interior designer charges; the average national cost for an interior designer ranges from $75 to $100 or more per hour. Other cost factors include the person’s reputation — interior designers to the stars are usually more expensive — and region. Most interior designers charge an average of $100-$225 for an initial consultation, but some will charge an hourly rate, usually starting at an average of $50, for larger projects that require extensive consultations. Hourly rates may be available for smaller projects, such as redecorating a living room or staging a home for sale; for instance, shopping and consulting can cost an average of $75 to $100 per hour, while staging costs and average $95 per hour. For many homeowners, a percentage of an interior designer’s cost is recouped through the professional discounts they receive from their vendors.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
