Stewart Robbins is what you want out of a computer repairman/IT guy. I was fairly pessimistic about the process that led to me Stewart through Thumbtack (which in retrospect was unwarranted), but I couldn't have had a better experience. The process began by Stewart and I talking over the phone about my problem. The best part was that he let me spill my guts out on what "I thought might be the problem" and tell the ,at times convoluted, story about what happened to my computer; unlike many IT professionals, Stewart never interrupted me or corrected me, he listened attentively. After a bit of actual discussion between the two of us (which is a BIG deal, because most IT professionals try to only tell you what the problem may be instead of treating you like an equal, like Stewart does). Late into the night (past 9PM), Stewart was able to meet me to pick up my desktop tower to begin work on it (JUST 2 HOURS AFTER OUR INITIAL CONVERSATION). During the time Stewart had my computer, he always kept me updated through text messages (which I opted into). I really appreciated this because he made my problem his own and was treating the issues with deliberate vigor. The problem with my computer, which I had though was a simple instillation issue with Windows 10, turned out to be more complex than I had thought. As I had come to expect by this time (3 hours after I ever had contact with him), Stewart was straightforward, informational, and patient about the process to fixing it. It was fixed in less than 24 hours. Now about pricing, normal IT professional would charge by the hour and maybe charge for a few things that they shouldn't. As a person who knows more about the cost of computer programs than your average Joe (not much more though), Stewart price for this incredibly quick, efficient, and PERSONABLE repair was absolutely reasonable. I will be referring anyone I know in the Charlotte area to Stewart and I will certainly be calling him up if I ever have concerns or questions. tl;dr: Stewart is efficient, personable, and knowledgeable about computer mechanics. Stewart came the same day (in the evening) to my house to diagnose my issue. Turns out it was a failing hard drive. - How did you get started doing this type of work?I was an 80's kid and always had a personal computer in the home. I got to grow up when the internet was just text on a black screen and enjoyed troubleshooting games and playing them with friends. By the time I finished high-school the internet was in full motion and the demand for IT was growing. So I naturally studied and found myself in the IT field.
- What types of customers have you worked with?Professional Services, Property Managers, Dr Offices, Dentists, Resteraunts, Schools, Churches, non-profits.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?Make sure you can relate to the person providing the service, be reluctant to buy expensive equipment to or feel like you are spending money throwing parts at the issue.
