FAQs
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
Professional Building Designer (PBD) Certified Age in Place Specialist (CAPS) Certified Green Professional (CGP)
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have been in construction since I was a child picking up nails at job sites and that grew to working in every aspect of home construction. As I became more and more educated I realized I could be the most beneficial to the process by using my experience and knowledge designing homes and assisting builders through my designs.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
A design professional with construction experience, value engineering experience and design experience can save you the cost of the plans 2-3 times easily. A good plan tells your story! It tells the contractors and sub-contractors all of your ideas, wishes and desires. Additionally a good plan can save time, materials, waste and utilize the materials correctly to maximize your budget and square footage. Clients never think twice about paying a real estate agent a percentage of their money to sale a home. However real estate agents do not have the years of training, years of construction experience nor the liability that a design professional has and will only spend a few hours on your home. The design professional can spend months with you and be there with you throughout the entire construction cycle and after. By designing a "value engineered" plan the cost spent on the plans will be saved during the process, where a bad plan can cost you extra time and money.
