I hired Bob to install kitchen cabinets, counter tops, and appliances in my kitchen. He was very professional, and did outstanding work, from the design process to the finishing touches at the very end. He installed all cabinets, built boxing to extend from the cabinet top to the ceiling (hiding the seams with molding), and the finished it off with crown molding. He custom built laminate counters and back splashes to fit the space, including a breakfast bar. He customized the back of the bar to match the cabinet trim. I would recommend Bob for future jobs, not only for his work, but for his attitude and personality. Bob is someone who you can trust and who cares about his customers and the work he is doing for them.

I called Mike about fixing a broken cabinet door. He was at my house that same afternoon and was very professional and polite. He took the cabinet door with him and returned with it repaired in two days, just as promised. I'll definitely keep his number handy for future jobs.

Bruce was fantastic to work with! He showed up on time, followed our instructions and vision for the project while also offering some great insight and advise, and worked very efficiently to finish the project ahead of schedule. The project included tv cabinet removal, wall repair, and electrical. We are so pleased with the end result as it turned out even better than we imagined. We would definitely recommend Bruce for your home project needs.

Dan and his team are AMAZING and I feel so grateful to have found them! They are excited to work on my home which included almost an entire remodel...Removing walls in the kitchen for an open floorpan, completely remodeling the kitchen, moving a bathroom, moving the laundry room upstairs and creating a mudroom in it's place. Building into unused attic space to create a walk in closet and bathroom in my daughter's bedroom and remodeling and rearranging our master bathroom. Not to mention all the new flooring, cabinets, and drywall where there was once popcorn ceilings. And they were EXCITED to do it. Most people I interviewed were overwhelmed at the task or WAY too expensive. He was priced fairly yet the work quality is far superior to other remodeled homes I have seen. Don't even waste your time with other companies. I love that I felt like we were working together as a team and he was always willing to spend time with me making sure I felt comfortable with each step!

Jordan made me fall in love with my tired old 1979 kitchen, and brought it into modern day! He refaced all our old cabinets, replaced the cabinet doors, added new modern pulls, new quartz counter, new backsplash, and new lights. Even made a custom 6'-0" double door to our washer and dryer closet, (which is unfortunately in our kitchen) but made it look part of the built in kitchen cabinetry. That double door made the kitchen! He's thorough, quick to respond, and detail oriented, and can even do custom drawings for you. Most importantly, he knows building code, (commercial and residential) which is by far hard to find in a lot folks of this trade. I have practiced interior design for nearly 20 years on the commercial side, and I only call Jordan now for my own house, and recommend him to my commercial contacts.

Jay and his team were on time, responsive and did a great job on my home project! I had lights installed in my dining room, a new fan in our bonus room, 3 different rooms painted and the biggest job was painting my cabinets and putting on all new hardware. I absolutely recommend Jay and will use him again!

Danny was on time just as he and I planned. We had a kitchen cabinet door that needed retrofitting to accommodate a repair to a lazy susan cabinet. We didn't even think this could be fixed, but Danny wasn't the least bit concerned and fixed it like new. He said he would be back in one week with the finished door to install and he was. I am definitely planning to have him do another project for me. I highly recommend him for cabinet work and craftsmanship jobs

Duke Nguyen is the owner of Instyle Cabinetry Inc. in Charlotte, NC. We found him initially through the HomeAdvisor website and met with him to review the new kitchen which we wanted built and the installation of all new appliances, sinks, lighting, and flooring we had chosen. Duke is extremely easy to work with as well as a very creative collaborator. Not only did he understand what our vision was for our kitchen, he improved on our general design ideas significantly, making the end result absolutely more outstanding than we could ever have anticipated. He improved on the cabinet designs, he improved the proposed lighting, and he found for us an even better and more beautiful quartz countertop matching our design motif than we had been able to find on our own. Duke is rare among general contractors: he makes appointments, and actually shows up. In fact, there was not one time in which the work scheduled didn't occur as planned. No excuses, no disappearing acts, no promises unkept - the usual experiences one has with contractors. Every workman Duke employs is a true craftsman; each cabinet was beautifully made with the latest soft closers installed, the installation of the new floor was perfect, the painting we had requested completed with an extraordinary sense of perfection. The result: in two months’ time, a stunning new kitchen that combines functionality with extraordinary beauty. We have a charcoal granite floor, beautiful white cabinets in a very contemporary design, white and grey quartz countertops, and black stainless steel Kitchen Aid appliances, and throughout the kitchen, LED lighting all at an extremely affordable price. We recommend Instyle Cabinetry and Duke Nguyen to anyone in the greater Charlotte area seeking a true perfectionist and craftsman.

Chris did an excellent job at fixing my water heater. He was very knowledgeable, thorough, and did the job for a very reasonable fee. I can tell that he deeply cares about his customers and is very reliable. I was so pleased with this experience that I also hired Chris to come out next weekend to touch up my kitchen and bathroom cabinets and work on other things around the house. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

    How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
