I have worked with Mark for over 5 years. Since moving to North Carolina he is my first choice for shooter and editor. He is talented and is fast to finalize a project. He has a fast turn around time. Mark also has great equipment and has done an amazing job shooting on my documentaries, music videos and a few shorts films. The picture is always beautiful and seldom do we need to get a shot more than once. In addition when I needed stills Mark could cover those and did a great job. Very talented and has a great sense of humor.

I have nothing but great things to say about these folks. We hired LakeSide Media to film and produce a company video testimonial. They were a pleasure to work with, collaborated with us on the necessary video edits, and the end product turned out great. I'd use them again in a heartbeat.

I loved every part of working with Troy and Crane House Film! We shot a music video in Malibu and it turned out magical! We are about to release it and I am sure it is going to be an important step stone in my career. Troy is a world class filmmaker, an amazing artist, great collaborator and a lovely friend. I loved all the ideas he came up with and had a great time working with him! I would highly recommend working with Troy!

Caleb and his crew have been extremely professional, timely and accommodating for our team. Caleb and Goodnight Creative are shooting a commercial video to put on our website for our financial planning firm. He's really gone above and beyond to get to the heart of what we do. Not only is the film quality top notch, but his ability to tell the story is spot on as well. He and the crew make you feel comfortable and make the process of shooting fun! I would HIGHLY recommend Caleb and his team to anyone looking for a professional video.

Jenna is an incredible photographer, and one that I have had the pleasure of working with on multiple occasions over the past two years. I am a circus artist and fire performer, and Jenna is always the first photographer that I reach out to when I have an upcoming performance. She has shot almost all of my performances since August 2014, in addition to the events and professional performances of many of my friends (as I always recommend her to everyone in my circle!) I have also modeled for her before, and participated in a short film of hers which was selected for screening at Universal CityWalk in Hollywood, CA. Many photographers know how to take good quality photos, but Jenna goes beyond that by not only having good photo quality, but good content quality. She knows what to look for in terms of composition, lighting, originality, and creativity. Her ability to capture the perfect moment on film is consistently above and beyond expectation, and friends of friends have even remarked to me that while other photographers also have good quality shots of the same events, the content of Jenna's photos and the moments that she captured are better. I would absolutely recommend Jenna to anyone looking for professional quality photo and video - impressive material guaranteed every time.

Jericho 7 Films is the absolute best. We can't say enough great things about our experience working with Josh at Jericho 7 Films. He and his wonderful team helped us film and produce an amazing introductory video about our company. This project was very important to us and we can say that Josh put his heart and effort into this production as if it were for his own company. We really appreciate how he genuinely cared about what we were trying to do. Through the entire filming and production process, Josh listened to our thoughts and did an incredible job of adding his opinions and ideas to make the video even better. We were fortunate to have his expertise and experience to help us create something amazing, beyond anything we ever expected. We highly recommend Jericho 7 Films. We're grateful for what they did for us. They have tremendous talent, skills and best of all they genuinely care about what their clients need!

We decided pretty late in the process of planning that we wanted to hire a videographer. We did some searching and found Bryon. We had a long phone conversation with him about what he could do and what our goals were. We had a few ideas of what we wanted for our video in mind and we presented these to Bryon, asked if he could do a little of this and a little of that, and he delivered. He did a great job with the editing, was always VERY responsive/easy to contact, worked well with our photographer, and fit all of this into our budget. My wife and I would recommend you to look to Bryon and First Crush Productions for any event that you want video of.

Lee Guthrie is a treasure. I got work editing a feature length documentary as part of a team of three editors in different states. Problem is i have been editing film and video on Avid for almost thirty years and this piece has to be edited on Adobe Première. I was reluctant at first but Lee has taught me to use and enjoy premiere and worked with me so i can keep up with my team. He is smart, easy to work with, and a joy to have around. He would be an asset to any production - i u recommend him without hesitation.

Palani went above and beyond working our wedding! He was friendly and kind and on top of things. I knew I didn't have to worry about anything and as the bride, that is such a gift! He also worked with my husband on a super special secret project and was thorough and professional. We had a lot of the vendors at our wedding including photographers, band, wedding coordinator, caterer and baloney worked great with all of them at the different times to make sure that every important moment of our day was captured on film. I would definitely love to work with him again and would highly recommend him to any of my family, friends or acquaintances!

Professional & excellent quality work! Post Pro transferred super 8 and 16mm old films to DVD. Matt explained the process(lubricating films before transfer & how he monitors speed etc). Matt showed me the differences with what could be done with speed and 'blank' areas. The finished product was far superior to what a 'box' store will do to transfer of films to DVD. The extras to my DVD added more value to the pictures of family that is gone. Along with DVD I also got a back-up on flash drive-does the $19.95 store provide that? I brought a second set of 20 films to transfer and recommend his work to family & friends. A friend had Post Pro redo their film transfer after seeing my DVD and saw big difference in their new DVD! Post Pro knows their business and you can trust them!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

    • Package 1: $1,400
      • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
      • Two cameras with audio equipment.
      • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
      • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
    • Package 2: $1,800
      • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
