after getting many quotes we choose JM Construction to replace the roof on our home and our building. We cannot express the quality of the work and the timely manor in which it was completed. They went above and beyond the scope of work, paid very close attention to details and documented the entire event with photos. The entire work area was cleaned up and we are extremely pleased with the service provided. If your in the market for a new roof we highly recommend JM Construction. Bob and Sandra Miller

Excellent! They did a really wonderful job and we are so happy with our new roof. The one thing that made us decide to hire them was, of the 3 contractors we asked for a quote, they were the only one to go up on the roof to actually look at the condition of the roof when they made the estimate. The crew were so professional, cleaned up, put everything back when the job was done. We would give them 10 stars if we could. Needless to say we are one of their happy customers!!!

I needed some exterior maintenance done on my rental house in NC. I happen to be in a different state, and could not be present, so I was a little anxious about this, especially since I have tenants living there. The work included some tree trimming, new roof vent system, pressure washing and staining of the entire house, and some minor trim replaced. Mr. Ursini gave me an initial estimate for a good portion of the work and I sent him a deposit. He completed the work in a timely manner and communicated with me about the state of things and what was needed. He also sent me pictures, before and after, and it was almost as good as being there. After the initial round of work, I decided to use them to complete an entire stain job on the cypress siding and decks. I was very pleased with the quality of work and it was evident that Ron really wanted to do a good job for me. I will use them again in the future.

Exterior siding/trim boards replaced. John replaced rotting wood siding, corner boards, and window sills and a front post holding my roof up over my front porch. Work performed was excellent, he cleaned everything up perfectly. Weather was horrible, probably the worst weak of the year because it was so cold, he still did what he could when it wasn't raining or snowing. Weather caused delays, out of his control. I would definitely hire him again and would recommend him to anyone looking for home repair.

Everything went smoothly! We met, received estimate onsite, signed contract and the work began a few days later. The crew did an excellent job in removing the old shingles and installing the new roof. The clean up was great, you couldn't tell that they had been there. He also sent pictures as the roofers were working which I thought was an added bonus.

We recently contracted with Probuilt to install a new roof. This company performed beyond our expectations. Bill Asher and Mike Woods are great guys to work with, both personable and honest, professional and courteous. Once the scope of the work was determined, Probuilt was on the job quick and performed the work in a timely manner. The roof looks great. We had a shed roof that was damaged and not discussed in prior conversations, but Probuilt utilized left-over materials and re-roofed the shed for us. Even though I had not included the shed in initial work request (actually forgot about it) this was a welcome surprise. We ended up working with a insurance claim as Probuilt was proactive in noting damage from storms and was able to work with our insurance company to provide relevant claim information leading to subsequent coverage. I highly recommend Probuilt. We are already working on the next project, new siding. Mike and Sandra Cress

We just replaced our roof using Artisan. From start to finish it was an outstanding, easy experience! The quote was quick, the estimate was reasonable, and the job was thorough. The workers showed up early in the morning and by the end of the day, we had a beautiful new roof. Abel's team has been with him for many years and it shows. Overall, I would highly recommend Artisan for any of your roofing needs!

My husband and I hired Cory at Pro Green Company after having a very bad experience with CertaPro. We had the majority of our 3400 square foot house painted inside. It was a huge job and Cory's crew was able to finish it in four days. They were prompt, courteous, and made sure to protect our furniture and carpeting. They did a wonderful job...the house looks new again! Cory was awesome to work with...responded to questions promptly, worked well within our budget, and followed up with us when the job was complete to ensure we were satisfied. We would highly recommend this company and will be contacting them for future jobs.

Working with Sean and Odyssey Contracting has been a great experience! Sean did a great job representing the company, explaining the process of replacing our roof, helped in filing the claim and following up with the insurance company when there were questions. In addition to being very thorough and professional, Sean is an exceptionally nice guy and stands by what he says he will do. We had our gutters replaced last year before we realized our roof really needed to be replaced. We told Sean they were new and he assured us his crew would be aware of this and would be careful but if any damage occurred, they would replace the damaged areas. Replacing a roof is no easy task without the additional worry of damaging new gutters, shrubbery, sprinkler system, etc. In the end, there was some damage to the gutters but true to his word Sean had them replaced so everything looks great and we are happy customers. My husband I would definitely recommend Sean for any type of repairs or replacement project you have. Great guy and great company! Thank you Sean for making a project that seemed so daunting flow so smoothly.

Sean walked the roof with me, explaining possible problems and fixes. Explained the proposal figures in detail. The crew showed up on time and went at it.When the old shingles and felt were off, Sean walked the roof again pointing out problem spots and explained the fixes. Excellent product, excellent installation and at a fair price. I would recommend to all my family and friends. Thanks again, Dan Liles

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
