He came out on short notice to clean my roof and gutters. His work was excellent, and his price was right. I really appreciated the way he communicated his time of arrival. He even kept me posted when heavy traffic slowed him down. I will definitely call him again for future work.

Santiago was very knowledgeable, polite, professional and willing to provide me with ideas and consult to better improve my project. He built me a porch with a tin roof. The porch is beautiful and very sturdy. We have enjoyed it immensely. I plan on using his services from now on to complete all my home maintenance needs. I would highly recommend Santiago to all that need a professional.

It was such a pleasure doing business with Eduardo. He and his team were very professional and the quality of work was outstanding. We started with a metal roof project and Eduardo connected us with an exterior painter and also connected us with someone to rebuild our steps to our back deck. Our blue metal roof is the envy of the neighborhood. We are so pleased with the results and will definitely call on Eduardo for any of our future projects.

I cannot say enough good thing about this man and the quality of his work. I have had so many contractors in the past who just want to take your money but do a half baked job. Brian is clean and courteous and really knows his stuff. The tile back splash job he did for me would stand up to any that you'd find in million dollar homes. Brian is a keeper.

CMC did a very good job. They showed up at the time they said they would be there. Kept me informed during the project. They were definitely the best price around town. I would definitely use them again for a roofing job. The roof is a very professional job. It looks great.

Quick and professional. Took them no time to finish the job! Wade initially asked if there were any specific problems to pay attention to. I plan to have them back in the fall to re-clean the gutters and cut back tree limbs near the roof.

What started out as a single small roof turned out to be a complete replacement due to bad material of the original roof. I chose ABJ for the following reasons 1,) being BBB A+ accredited, 2.) payment due at job closure and 3.) working with me to file a warranty claim with original roofing material supplier to receive credit and compensation. If it wasn’t for ABJ guiding me through the warranty process, I would have never known about the ability to file a claim. Regarding the job itself they completed the job in two days, were courteous, and resolved un-seen issues with the original roof. They demonstrated a high degree of professionalism and competence. When they left they cleaned up and you couldn’t even tell that a new roof was just installed. I highly recommend ABJ Roofing and have already told my neighbors about my experience with ABJ.

This was a great experience and excellent quality of work. He repaired some loose fittings on my roof but also swept the leaves clear while he was up there unasked. Very courteous and professional, will definitely hire again.

Charles Brown of A Hammer And Nail Construction is honest and hardworking. He told me the truth about my roof, but only did what I requested of him to repair it...(I need to have it replaced, but I could not afford to at the time.) He repaired the shingles on my roof so that it would last a while longer until I can replace it. He was always on time and did the job quickly. He was always available to answer questions.

Art worked with everyone involved in a timely and professional way. We had two separate projects that Art was able to complete. Art installed a new metal roof on our property. He also fixed water damage caused by flooding. Art collaborated with many different parties and made sure that we were happy with his work before completion. I was extremely pleased with the work that he provided and would highly recommend this company to everyone.

Exterior siding/trim boards replaced. John replaced rotting wood siding, corner boards, and window sills and a front post holding my roof up over my front porch. Work performed was excellent, he cleaned everything up perfectly. Weather was horrible, probably the worst weak of the year because it was so cold, he still did what he could when it wasn't raining or snowing. Weather caused delays, out of his control. I would definitely hire him again and would recommend him to anyone looking for home repair.

I can't say enough about ProbuiltCo and the excellent job they did installing my new roof! I have hired many contractors but I have never had a contractor who did what they told me they would do when they told me they would do it. Brian was here every step of the way from the initial steps through the cleanup. I would highly recommend them if you are looking for a contractor!

I had a few contractor come over for an estimate, most did not even got on the roof it's a 10/12 sammy got on the roof and mark the area where hail damage was visible. He guide me thru out the process and did not pressure me to go with his company .what made me go with him is that he actually knew what he was talking about.most of the roofer I talked to where just salesman not roofer. Story short, my roof looks amazing and had no problem With hurracane florence. I'm happy at the job that sammy and his crew perform. I would highly recommend to anyone. 👌👍

Michael and Roger turned my kitchen into a place I never want to leave! I had been dreaming about and saving for a renovation for 10 years, and they were able to listen to and honor what I already knew I wanted while offering invaluable suggestions for how to fill out my vision. They stayed within my budget (even managing to work in a much overdo roof replacement!) while never sacrificing high quality in workmanship and materials. Both were highly communicative -- never taking more than a few minutes to respond to texts and emails, and they sent pictures of the renovation all along the way. I give them my highest recommendation. If you are dreaming about a home improvement, the best thing you can do for your project is to give Michael and Roger a call today.

By far my Best experience with a General Contractor ever! Although my projects varied greatly, AJ Holt Repairs was able to address them ALL. Over the course of a month, I had an issue with my furnace, my front stoop needed repairing, and I had an unfinished drywall and painting project. Each time I called for service, AJ Holt Repairs was able to complete the project same day. Anton was a pleasure to work with. He was very upbeat and professional. Anton was able to quick identify the problem with my furnace and quickly repaired it. He came equipped with all the required tools and materials. AJ Holt Repairs is my 1st choice for all my home projects!

His guys put in some very long days to ensure the work was done and the house was always protected from weather. Thank you Lucas. Karen and Rick

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a standing seam metal roof?

A standing seam metal roof may be a strong, durable, safe choice when you’re considering metal roofing installation options. A standing seam refers to the raised seam where the sheet metal roofing panels join. Traditionally, shingles and roof panels lie flush to the roof, making them more prone to rust or penetration by water at their seams. In a standing seam metal roof, the raised (or standing) seams run vertically from the roof ridge to the eaves, with no horizontal seams. In addition, the fasteners joining the metal panels together are concealed, providing even fewer opportunities for water or moisture to build up. The cost to install a standing seam metal roof will depend on the type of metal you select, the size of your roof, and the cost of roofing labor in your region. Materials will play a major role in your metal roofing installation costs. If you select standard galvanized steel, the cost per square (100 square feet) might be in the $150-$300 range, while a high-end choice such as copper or zinc could be between $1,000 and $1,500 per square. Here is one example of cost:

  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.

Can a metal roof be installed over shingles?

Metal roofs are durable, environmentally friendly, safe and budget-friendly. If you’re considering an update, metal roofing installation doesn’t have to mean completely removing your old roof. In many cases, metal roofing can be installed over your existing shingles. Research building codes in your state, as many require that after two roofs have been installed, all roofing materials must be completely removed before a third roof can be put on. This protects your home’s structural integrity and your family’s safety. Carefully read contractor reviews and choose someone with extensive experience with metal roofing installation. One concern when installing metal over shingles is that over time, condensation can build on the shingles and cause the metal to rust. This will lead to rust around the panels, making them more likely to come loose in a storm. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000. The wide price range represents different roof sizes, different types of metal, and the cost of labor in different parts of the country — and can also include the cost of removing an old shingle roof prior to installing the metal. As a line item, the average cost of removing an old roof to prepare for installing a new roof, plus adding new roof decking, costs on average about $45-$75 per square (the pro roofer’s term for 100 square feet), depending on the pitch of the roof. Always make sure you have a clearly written contract and a warranty on both the labor and the metal.

How much does it cost for a metal roof?

Metal roofing installation is an attractive option thanks to metal’s long lifespan, hardiness and fire-retardant properties. Nationally, the average cost for metal roofing installation ranges from $6,000 to $20,000.There are different types of metal roofs, each with their own installation needs and materials costs. Roof size also affects your metal roofing installation costs, as do regional labor rates. Roof size is measured in squares; one square equals 100 square feet. Here are some examples of the average cost for a metal roof:

  • Standard metal roof: $120-$150 per square to start, including materials and labor
    • A 30-square roof (a 3,000-square-foot roof) could cost between $3,600 and $4,500 for a typical three-bedroom home.
  • Snap-Loc metal roof: $200-$225 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $6,000-$6,750.
  • Standing seam metal roof: $300 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000 or more.
  • Tuff-Rib metal roof: $250-$350 per square to start, including materials and labor.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $7,500-$10,500.
  • Mid-range metal roof package, including all accessories: $300-$500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $9,000-$15,000.
  • High-end metal roof package — such as zinc or copper — and all accessories: $1,000-$1,500 per square.
    • A 30-square roof could cost $30,000-$45,000.
