Introduction: I have been teaching online since April 2020 and have decided to continue online for now. I teach beginning and intermediate classical, pop and jazz piano and music theory. I have a BA in music history with a piano major plus an MA in world music. My college piano teacher, Ruth Laredo, was a world renowned concert pianist. I also studied with other world class musicians in pipe organ, woodwinds and music theory. I have 8 years experience teaching privately with students of all ages. I enjoy teaching young students and beginners. I have taught online lessons using Skype and Zoom. My online lessons are $20 per lesson, usually for 45 minutes.

Piano Lessons (for adults)

She is very patient and understanding with a 70-year-old rank beginner and true musical illiterate. Very flexible also.

Sue is a patient, encouraging and talented teacher. I'm an adult learner who hasn't taken lessons in 25 years, and Sue has rekindled my excitement for learning piano!

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

I offer low prices for online lessons with a discount for the first lesson to see if we are a good match. My lessons are just $20 for 45 minutes and $10 for the first lesson.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

For online lesson I go over the pieces and methods the student is currently using to see if I can work with what they have been doing. For new students, I use Alfred's Basic and John Thompson to see if they will prefer classical or pop. I feel they need both because sometimes students who I think will want to learn popular will surprise me and decide on classical. I also teach music theory with the circle of fifths and scales, etc. depending on the student's level. I work with proper technique as much as possible with all of my students.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have a BA in music history with a piano major and an MA in world music. My college piano teacher, Ruth Laredo, became a world renowned concert pianist who specialized in the music of Scriabin and Rachmaninoff. I also studied woodwinds in college with teachers who had international recognition. One of my advisers for my master's thesis was a world renowned composer, Halim El-Dabh. I studied pipe organ for 8 years at Duke University with the Duke University organist.
