He was an amazing DJ!! He was very patient and willing to work with all the craziness I was dealing with at the wedding!! Not only was the music great and transitioned well, but he was an overall fun DJ to have. I definitely hope to work with him again in the near future... Jillian

A HUGE cudos to Eryn Fuson! How many people know how to play harp and can play it that well?? She was phenomenonal! The music was so beautiful and she did not miss one note. During the rehersal she did exactly as we asked and we did not even have to instruct her of what to do- she just knew. She was very professional the whole day and never once gave us any worries. I had SO many guests come up to me at the end of our wedding asking who she was and speaking about how great she performed. Thank you Eryn! You made our wedding music absolutely perfect!

We needed music for a small outdoor wedding. Qi was very good with communication before the event. There were no questions that went unanswered. Qi got to the wedding on time and played beautifully. We made a mistake in not having sound equipment so she was hard to hear but that wasn't her fault.

I asked Lisa to do the music for my wedding because not only is she amazingly talented with a beautiful voice, but I also wanted someone I had utmost confidence in who would be able to handle any last minute changes or problems that inevitably come up at weddings. She was wonderful and did not disappoint. I highly recommend her!

DJ Cruz is a professional of the highest level. Let me preface by saying that we were very careful to pick the perfect DJ that would be able to make this a distinguished affair, rather than feel like a prom. Christian dedication to gather every detail and every like and dislike is exceptional. We spent over 2 hours speaking with him in his very plush office on our first meeting, to just get a feel of what we were striving for. Our second meeting with Christian was over 4 hours! Yes, he spent over 6 hours with us prior to the wedding to go over every little detail of a reception that would last 4 hours. That is called being a perfectionist. His ability to manage the flow and timeline of a wedding reception is true art. During our creativity sessions, we spoke about how we wanted to maximize "fun" and minimize interruptions. Christian came up with a timeline that combined such things as the cake cutting and the bouquet toss into 1 quick break, instead of starting and stopping the dancing each time. We also had Unforgettable DJ's provide up-lighting and a photo booth. We initially were going to have the up-lighting remain all blue throughout the night as we have been to other events where the DJ treats it as a sweet 16 and it is just out of control. During our second meeting with Christian, he revisited our request for the blue lighting and asked if at this point we trusted him to change the lighting a few times throughout the night for effect. We did trust him and he didn't let us down. For the first part of the reception the blue remained till we even forgot about the changing lights, then during just the right moment it changed over to red, everyone was floored. Then later back to blue, then some amber thrown in at precisely the right time. He has great instincts for such things. The photo booth was a huge hit! I ran out of room on this review, but want to say Christian is also very smooth on the microphone and was perfect! THANK YOU DJ Cruz!

We utilized the DJ service for our wedding and they were awesome. We received numerous compliments and our out-of-town guests were asking if they travel! They built the ideal playlist around our "must haves" and made sure I (the bride) was able to sing to my husband as I walked down the aisle at an outdoor venue. Nikkei was very helpful and went above and beyond to ensure that our day was a success and within our budget. They were flexible to our many changes and able to just go with the "flow" of our wedding and reception. Thanks guys!

Strings and Keys were amazing at my July 22nd wedding ceremony! Angela will make sure before your event that the music is organized and the event flows exactly how you would like it to. My guests loved every minute of the prelude, processional, recessional, and postlude because of Angela's beautiful voice and Attila's amazing cello playing. My ceremony felt like a fairytale and Strings and Keys attributed to that. Strings and Keys can play a variety of music from classical to pop songs. I definitely recommend booking Strings and Keys for your next event!

The band has played at our public events more than once and they were fabulous every time! They arrived early, set up their equipment and were ready to go ahead of time. They had a large catalog of songs and played music that fit our group perfectly, including some of their own original material. They're a great band, and their music definitely got the crowd energized! Personally, I enjoy seeing them play whenever I can, and it makes me want to dance every time I hear them. If you’re looking for a talented, fun-loving, and engaging band, Thursday’s Flight gets my vote!

Radical productions performed the music at my wedding. They did a good job. The only hiccup was they forgot to sing the Lord's Prayer during lighting unity candle. They were on time and set up. They provided my minister with a lapel mic for a fee, which was ok because the hotel was gong to charge 350.00. Over all pleased.

Joey did an awesome job at our wedding! From the very beginning he did everything he could to help us and make us comfortable. Once we got to the reception site there was nothing for us to worry about. He had our itenerary and flowed from one item to the next with no down time. Would recommend Joey to anyone. He is THE best!

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      What is a mariachi band?

Mariachi bands are rooted in Mexican culture. Traditional mariachi bands consisted of two or more members playing stringed instruments, wearing regional costumes adapted from the charro (Mexican horseman or cowboy). Modern mariachi bands, which are likely what you’re looking for when searching for a mariachi band for hire, feature at least four members who play stringed instruments (violin, vihuela, bass guitar called guitarron) and one or more trumpets. The costumes have remained the same, but now trumpets are synonymous with mariachi music. Mariachi bands for hire often play a wide range of music, including styles originating from Mexico and adopted from elsewhere. These include jarabes, waltzes, serenades, corridos (Mexican ballads), ranchera, cumbia, and more. Mariachi bands for hire bring a festive and soulful element to a party, birthday, wedding, corporate affair, fundraiser or community event. UNESCO has inscribed mariachi music on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

How many mariachis can a band have?

A mariachi band for hire can have as many players as you like. Modern mariachi bands typically have a minimum of four players with the trumpet playing a vital musical role along with stringed instruments such as the violin, guitarrón (a Mexican bass guitar with a deep body), vihuela (a Spanish stringed guitar) and guitar. Strong vocals are also an important component of mariachi bands for hire, since one or more of the players will be singing during the performance. For a truly spectacular show, you can hire a mariachi band with 15 or more players. The medley of stringed instruments, multiple trumpets, soaring vocals, and even an accordion or harp is powerful and beautiful. Mariachis typically wear the traditional costume of charros — Mexican horsemen. The look is a very regal, monotone suit, often in black or white, with silver adornments and embroidery. Mariachi bands often wear sombreros as well. Traditional mariachi bands were only made up of two or more players, according to a UNESCO report celebrating the cultural heritage of the musical style. The style of music originated in the state of Jalisco. Now the style of music is symbolic of Mexico but is celebrated all over the world, and adds a fabulous vibrancy to any group’s events, parties and weddings.

How much does a mariachi band cost?

A mariachi band will bring your party or event alive with their fabulous costumes, beautiful playing and strong vocals. The cost of a mariachi band for hire will depend on how many players are in the group. Each musician in a performance group needs to be paid, so pricing is usually based on the number of mariachis (musicians), the location of the event (and travel time required), and the length of the performance. Day of the week also affects cost, as does day — Christmas, New Year’s Eve and other major holidays will cost more than regular days. The national average cost for live bands of all types ranges between $740 and $1,200. Depending on where you live and regional rates for performers, you might expect to pay between $65 and $120 per hour, per player. Mariachi groups may have 12-15 players available for performance at one time, depending on your budget. Here are some examples of how the number of players affects average cost:

      • Four mariachis: $300 per hour for weeknights, $400 per hour for weekends.
      • Five mariachis: $350 per hour for weeknights, $400-$450 per hour for weekends. Weekends may have a minimum number of hours.
      • Six mariachis: $400 per hour for weeknights, $450-$500 per hour for weekends.
