How did you get started doing this type of work?
When I was younger, I was working out but not having much success with my body or my workouts. I ended up seeing a holistic nutritionist and she really helped get my diet back on track. I was eating a lot of fast food and convenience foods, and not eating whole, real, natural foods. That got me interested, and then when I went to college I LOVED the science courses I took, so I decided to try for the Nutrition major, and never looked back.
What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
My advice is: interview the professional you are interested in. Talk to him/her on the phone for a while and make sure your personalities mesh well. If you can't treat your Dietitian/Nutritionist like a good friend, and tell her all of the good AND the bad in your diet, you won't succeed with her weight loss plan for you.
What questions should customers think through before talking to professionals about their project?
I wish customers knew that dietitians mess up too. We have our horrible days where we eat nothing but junk and then have to get back on track. Some people think we are these perfect eaters who eat nothing but veggies and lean meat all day, but that simply is NOT the case!
