"Arthur, the owner of Healcyon, is a highly-educated individual (BA in Philosophy from NC State, graduating Magna Cum Laude; a NC-licensed Massage Therapist for over 7 years) with a great work ethic and a good sense of applying non-traditional methods of healing. He worked on my bum shoulder over several weeks and now I have free range of movement again. I Highly recommend this young man."

"I was looking for a "spoil me massage" and got something very different but so much better! Within minutes of me laying on the table and having Leah's hands doing what she does best she had all my aches and pains pin pointed and offered solutions.....I felt comfortable trusting her judgement and experience and let myself slip away into the twilight while she went to work. I got a full body workout without working out! There wasn't a muscle in my body that hadn't been touched and stimulated. I now have a pretty good idea where most of my trigger points are and while they are sore, overall I feel so much better! I highly recommend you make an appointment with Leah! She has a wonderful personality, is genuinely nice and caring and she knows her stuff! Money and time well spent! I already made my next appointment!"

"As a massage therapist myself, I tend to be slightly picky about who works in me. Thea listens and applies skillful knowledge to trouble areas; allowing for the relaxation I need. I can recommend Thea’s professional massage skills wholeheartedly!"

"Katie is fabulous at deep tissue massage! I have gone to a few different spas in the area for massages and they do not compare to her! She listens to me AND to my body. If she finds knots and trouble areas she works to get rid of them. And every time I feel better after seeing her, unlike the other places I’ve been to. I highly recommend her!"

"My experience with Women's Wellness Massage was amazing. After losing my precious angel late last year to a miscarriage, I felt alone and helpless (even through the support from my husband was great). I had never heard of a fertility massage and researched it greatly. I came across Women's Wellness Massage. I message Ashley and told her my story. She was responsiveness and gave me the background information on the massage. I was super nervous my first time, but that changed the moment I walked into Ashley's front door. She listened to my individual story. She wrote down notes and gave me information that would help my particular situation. Then the massage was absolutely fabulous! It was super relaxing and I felt at ease the entire time. She is super knowledgeable about the female body! I learned so much. I went two times. The second time, I went a month later. She remembered everything we had discussed before, as if I was a good friend. A few weeks later, I received a positive pregnancy test. Ashley was the first person I sent it to. I feel that she has been apart of this entire journey. I am 12 weeks along now and I sent Ashley every ultra sound and she even checks on me. I could not recommend her enough. She is apart of my pregnancy journey and I will never forget her kindness."

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is Thai massage?

Thai massage, also called Thai yoga massage, combines acupressure and assisted yoga postures. Thai massage is based on the flow of energy through the body and focuses on energy lines called “sen.” It doesn’t use oils or lotions and, instead of rubbing muscles, the massage therapist compresses, pulls, stretches and rocks the recipient’s body to promote the flow of energy through these sen. In this form of massage therapy, practitioners use their hands, knees, legs and feet to apply deep muscle compression and stretch the body. It’s often performed on a mat on the floor instead of on a massage table. Like most forms of massage, Thai massage is used to relieve stress, improve range of motion and enhance flexibility. Some people also use Thai massage to address a range of health issues, including:

  • Relieving tension headaches
  • Decreasing back pain
  • Reducing joint stiffness and pain
  • Stimulating circulation and lymphatic drainage
  • Boosting energy

Because a traditional Thai massage session covers all of the muscles in your body, it typically lasts 90 minutes to 120 minutes.

How much do you tip a massage therapist?

All forms of massage therapy, from Thai massage to Swedish massage to deep tissue massage, are similar to other spa or hospitality services. So it’s appropriate to tip a massage therapist the standard hospitality rate of 15 percent to 20 percent of the cost of the session. For example, the national average cost for a deep tissue massage is $70-$90, so expect to tip $12-$18. Of course, you can always tip more or less depending on your experience, especially if you’ve opted for extra services. For example, expect to tip more for a couple’s hot stone massage session that includes aromatherapy. Also, if you’re paying with a gift certificate or coupon, or purchasing a discounted multi-session package, make sure to calculate your tip based on the full price of the massage.
