Wow, Dawayne and Justin did an outstanding job on the project that I had for my home. They installed a 4K TV above the fire place along with a sound bar system and 2 glass shelves for my components. The finished product was above and beyond my expectations. Throughout the whole time, they were concerned not only about what I wanted, but what would look best in the setup, they strongly valued my opinion but also used their experience for suggestions on what would ultimately have a better outcome. I highly recommend Dawayne for any services you may need in your home. They both educated me on the use of the systems and left the place in mint condition. They were both professional, punctual, and most importantly, honest. Will definitely be doing business with them later on in future projects. Thanks!!

Noel installed two backsplashes in my home. One in the kitchen and the other in the living room wet bar. We used a combination of natural mixed sized slate as well as glass and stainless steel mosaic tile both of which required intricate cut work and corner piecing and fitting. The results are beautiful and already we have inspired so many of our friends and family to do the same. Noel was prompt, professional, clean, and work quickly and effectiently. He accepted no pay until the work was completed to our satisfaction. I already plan to install new tile work on my front porch and plan to only use Noel. I highly recommend him for your upcoming projects! THANK YOU NOEL!

Ben Hamrick and his team did an outstanding job at our home. They did exterior work (4 sides brick) which included trim, front door, windows, replaced rotten wood on windows, etc, From pressure washing the house, walk and driveway, to the clean up, everything was done very professionally and in a timely manner. The week they were to start, the heat was almost unbearable and Ben thought that would delay things but it all worked out according to schedule. The crew was there by 7:00a.m. and worked consistently to finish. The most impressive thing was Ben and his team's attitude towards the work. Whatever additions were added, he obliged. His contract itemized everything in detail with nothing hidden. His quote won over 5 others. Not so much because of price (although reasonable and within range) but his personality had much to do with him getting the job. Would I recommend Ben Hamrick? Absolutely, without a doubt!

Calvin did a great job in installing our window and getting the window in on a rushed schedule. My only complaint on why I only gave 4 stars as their ability to communicate with us was a struggle. Maybe I just need more hand holding than most but it was a bit frustrating. Other than that he did a great job!

Steve came over to install curtain rods on three windows, two of which were corner windows. I had also asked him to remove a partially-detached towel bar in a bathroom. He arrived right on time and got right to work. He tackled the towel bar issue first so that he was able to put two coats of plaster on before leaving, which means that I just need to do a very light sanding and then repainting on my own. The curtain rods turned out great, too! My walls are plaster, and had either brick or steel behind them in certain places, so the job had a few challenges. Also, it's an old building, and the resultant settling meant that he had to make some slight allowances for the positioning of the brackets so that the curtains hung evenly. Steve was great at helping me think through how close I wanted the rods to extend across the window frame, given that the windows were on located near/at the room corners. For the corner windows, he suggested placing the inside brackets halfway across the rod, so that the curtain panels would be spaced more evenly and would fall better. The finials on my rods were small, but Steve allowed enough space on the end window to allow for larger finials, without hitting up against the right angle wall. Given the technical expertise required on this job, as well as his design and planning thoughts, I am very grateful to have had Steve come over and get the job done!

I had Alexander and his crew scraped the popcorn off 1800 sqft of ceiling, then they mudded, primed and painted it. They also taped, mudded, and primed 50 sheets of drywall that I put up after removing and adding walls in my house. They did a great job! They gave a reasonable price, showed up everyday on time, and finished on schedule. I would definatly use them again.

Jeff gave me a timely quote via email and was able to repair the window that very same day. No one else could commit for several days. He was very helpful and did some tinkering around with my door lock that was very helpful. He even came back a couple days later to check on the window and complete details after the substance cured. I hope to use him for many other projects as well.

I'm very pleased with No Leak Roofing.... Darrell was very professional and prompt....I called Darrell on a Monday to come out to inspect my roof for a leak...He was there within an hour....He came out and inspected the roof and took pictures to show me his finding, there was wind and hail damage, Darrell explained to me that since this was damage from a storm,my insurance company should pay to replace the roof....He told me to call and place a claim with Nationwide and he even offered to meet the adjuster at the house and walk through the inspection with her... Darrell explained the process to me told me exactly what he was going to do and gave me a time frame...A week later I had a new roof... he also, had to replace some of the sidings on the side of the house and replace four screens on the windows outside... and paint the ceiling in one of the bedrooms...He worked around my schedule and was consideret of my time...He would always come earlier than the time we agreed on...I called Darrell on February 20th and the roof was replaced on March 3rd, the remaining work was completed by March 13th. Darrell was great to work with and has given me a peace of mind.... No More Leaks Thanks for your friendly and knowledgeable service. Anne

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
