Randy was on time, actually early. He was quick to get to work. He gave us a fair price for the repair. He actually had the new part with him anf was done in under an hour. We will use him again when we need another repair.

Seriously don't look anywhere else for your electrical needs. It's hard to find an honest, fair, and skilled tradesman these days but luckily there are some like Energy-X left! Bryan provided free onsight estimate, presented several options for repair and upgrade, price was super reasonable, and he did the work on time and fast! I honestly couldn't ask for anything more and wish all my home repair needs could be serviced by someone with this kind of integrity and work ethic.

Our furnace stopped working over night. So we called Morris Jenkins this morning. We received a call from Jason saying he was on the wayand gave a time when he would arrive. He was on time and took a few minutes to introduce himself and to listen to our problems. He said he would take a look at the system and find a solution to get us going again, and give us options to repair the system. Within no time he was back to the door with a solution. We argeed to repair the system today. Jason cleaned and repaired the system as quoted. He checked every vent in the home even the one that he had to crawl uder the table to get to The service provided today was wonderful, I could not ask for a better service experience.

Ben was a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end! We had purchased a home and had the walls, ceiling, trim, doors and mantle painted in the entry way, kitchen, living rm, dining rm, hallway and main bath. His crew did an excellent job on patching the walls first, painting and clean up. The crew was professional and courteous and went above and beyond with a leak in the bathroom sink (That was not on the job list). Andy noticed the pipe under the sink was leaking and went out to his truck to get teflon tape to make the repair and advised us that that would help stop the leak but to replace the p trap. In this day and age it is hard to come by contractors that do the job they are hired for let alone go above and beyond…But that’s just what Ben’s crew did!! The house looks amazing and it was seamless, stress free and done on time! Ben communicates through the entire process and makes you feel like you are his only customer. We also had all the carpets cleaned and they look beautiful! I will definitely be hiring Ben again for other projects and have already recommended him to friends and relatives. Buying a home and doing renovations can be very stressful and Ben made it completely stress free. Hire Ben and his crew and you will not be disappointed!!

Clyde was very prompt to respond to my request. He communicated in a courteous and professional manner. When he arrived, he assessed the job and adjusted the quote down based on the fact that it was not as involved to complete the job. He has a lot of experience and was very helpful in providing information. Would highly recommend him for any repair work - as he says "no job is too small."

We had a list of repairs that needed done on the house we were selling. We were running out of time and Jonathan saved us. He and his crew showed up early the next morning after I called him. All the repairs were done in one day and he stayed exactly with his estimate. Jonathan found somethings that didn't need repaired as well and saved us money. JS Master Constructions was fast, honest, professional, and a great value. I would recommend Jonathan to anyone who needs home repairs especially home sellers with a repair list from inspectors. The buyers were thrilled with the repairs and we are moving forward with the closing thanks to Jonathan and JS Master Constructions. I will definitely call Jonathan to work in my new home.

Juan has done cleaning, maintenance and repairs on my inground pool for several years now and gets an A+ for his performance. Very knowledgeable about pools, reliable, reasonably priced, he is a true professional. Juan also has done other work for me, including a new central air conditioner installation, new granite counter tops, wired new water heater, and ran new electrical lines in my barn. I guarantee satisfaction for any work that Juan may do for you.

My wife was very impressed with Steve's' appearance and his professionalism. The office staff is very professional and adds an attention detail that runs throughout this company. My concern is due to the outstanding service and dedication to details... she will want new windows yearly. The quality of the trim Steve provides is above all I have seen. We have a high end home and were concerned how replacing the windows would make the house appear... we thought they might appear chopped up or butchered.... DO not be concerned....The dry wall was seamless and the outside trim looked better than the original. Steve and his team are top notch.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you find a good handyman?

Finding a good handyman can change your life. Within days, the endless list of insurmountable tasks that were either out of your skill range or impossible to fit into your busy schedule can be completed. If you know you want help but aren’t sure how to hire the right pro, ask these questions to find the right fit:

  • What is your work experience? If you are putting in a tile backsplash, you want someone experienced with the task, not someone who generally does painting and junk removal.
  • How much do you charge? Handymen often charge hourly rates that vary based on the complexity of the task they’re hired to do, as well as flat rates for standard jobs. Be clear about what they’ll charge before you hire them.
    • On that note, discuss payment details. It’s wise not to pay all the money up front, especially for larger projects. You may be able to pay a deposit for materials and pay the remainder upon project completion.
  • How long will the job take you to complete? If the handyman is as busy as you are and a fence repair is going to take months, you should probably find another qualified handyman for the job.

Read client reviews and follow up with references to make sure you’re choosing the right handyman for your projects. For more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

What does a handyman do?

A handyman is a skilled laborer who provides basic home repairs. Anyone can call themselves a handyman, although most who do so are skilled with repairs and home projects. Reading reviews is a good way to determine their fitness for your job. The tasks a handyman can perform include assembling furniture, painting interiors and exteriors, repairing fences, repairing broken doors or replacing trim, hanging lights, hooking up appliances, and much more. Handymen may have flat fees for certain services, or charge an hourly rate. Handyman rates are often lower than those of a contractor, as they don’t have the same specialization. Some states have no limit on the work a handyman can perform, while others do. For example, California’s Building and Professions Code section 7048 (small operations) permits handymen to provide work similar to that of a contractor (floor installation, painting, etc.) provided the total cost of labor and materials does not exceed $500. A handyman is a great resource for minor home repairs at a lower cost than a licensed contractor, but for more complex projects, it pays to hire a specialized contractor. Fore more, check out our tips for smart hiring on Thumbtack.

How much does a handyman charge?

The national average rate for handyman jobs is $90-$160. A handyman performs general maintenance and repairs for residential and commercial properties. A handyman may charge a flat fee for standard services that take a predictable amount of time, such as installing a new appliance, as well as an hourly rate for larger projects such as digging out and replacing a rotted fence post. A cost-saving strategy when hiring a handyman is to bundle all the tasks you want them to do into one visit to make the most of any minimum service fee. Hourly rates for a handyman can average $50-$100 per hour. Pricing will depend on skill and experience required for the job, as well as regional labor rates. Here are a few examples of average handyman flat rates.

  • Attic ladder replacement: $150.
  • Toilet replacement: $75.
  • Ceiling fan and light fixtures: $75.
  • Faucet replacement: $125.
  • Garbage disposal: $75.

Can a handyman do plumbing?

In some states, a handyman can provide plumbing services, but it may be in your best interest to call a plumber, particularly for issues more major than unclogging a drain or attaching a new sink. Hiring a plumber is important because mishandling your water and gas lines has the potential to do great damage to your home, your family’s health, or even the safety of your neighborhood. A handyman is not legally required to have any training or licensing in plumbing matters, while a licensed plumber has undergone years of education and on-the-job training. In some cases, homeowners insurance won’t cover damage caused by plumbing repair done by an unlicensed handyman.

According to the U.S. Department of Labor, most plumbers learn their trade through a four- or five-year apprenticeship with 2,000 hours of paid on-the-job training. They also receive classroom education including “safety, local plumbing codes and regulations, and blueprint reading. They also study mathematics, applied physics, and chemistry. After completing an apprenticeship program, plumbers … are considered to be journey workers, qualifying them to perform duties on their own,” according to the DOL. Licensed plumbers should do continuing education to keep abreast of safety and technology changes. Poor plumbing can lead to sewage backups, a flooded home or even natural gas leaks, so it’s best to leave it in the hands of a specialized professional.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
