Chris and his team showed up on time and they were very professional. They even did some additional work for a very fair price. They were very cautious and careful that no property damage occurred. The clean up was exceptional. I would definitely use them again and I highly recommend them to anyone who needs tree removal. We could not have done this ourselves. Thank you Chris and team!

I hired this service to clear out my very overgrown back yard, which is what happened to my "natural and rustic" yard after 12 trees were taken down for solar panels on my roof. Without all the tree roots, weeds that I refer to as "monkey grass" took over, reaching heights of almost 3 feet . I had also wanted to get the area seeded in lawn in an attempt to control the weeds. This service came in and got all the weeds mowed down in a good size back yard, along with my brick patio. It was explained to me that snce the weeds were so high and dense, any seeding would be smothered by what was just cut, and it would be prudent to let the cuttings die off over the winter and seed in the spring. I appreciated the honesty rather than making a futile attempt seeding a lawn which would not thrive. I plan to use this service in the spring to start a new lawn, which will thrive, and would not hesitate to recommend this service.

My entire experience with Stone, Soil and Shrubs has been excellent. I’ve happily contracted lawn service with this company for about ten years. The monthly service plan we have includes all mowing, trimming, all fertilizer and chemical applications, all pruning, and twice yearly seeding as needed. In addition to this, we’ve also retained them to provide a la carte services such as resolving drainage issues, tree removal, hardscaping, sodding, and the planting and transplanting everything from annuals to trees to entire beds. They are reasonably priced for the high level of service they provide and they are responsive to any query or complaint—and those are rare. Most of my immediate neighbors have used them either on contract or for single-service jobs. I have never heard a complaint. It isn’t hard to find someone to mow your lawn. It is very hard to find someone who will treat it like their own, and not take shortcuts.

Jay was very responsive. He came out the same day. A few days later the tree was removed and he and his crew did a great job! This tree was right next to a wooden privacy fence and not one of the limbs or branches ever touched our fence! They took great care, hauled it all way and we could not be more pleased. We will hire him again!

Triad Tree Trimmers promptly came out and gave us a great quote and got to work the same day. They were able to efficiently cut down about an 80 foot, dead tree that had power lines on one side and the house on the other. Unlike other tree companies, that tried to take advantage b/c of the condition/safety hazard the tree imposed, Triad Tree was fair and honest, and safely took down our tree w/ out all of the bulky equipment that was "required" by other companies. We will definitely use them for future tree work. Thank you Triad Tree!

Jared and his team did an outstanding job from beginning to end. The initial discussion about what to trim/cut, methods to use for completing the work, and the estimated schedule was complete and thorough. This was followed by excellent job execution. It was complex with many trees needing branches removed, and a roughly 100 foot Tulip Popular tree removed from close proximity to the front of the house. No heavy equipment use was possible as the landscape made access to the area(s) impossible. The work was completed in a timely manner and cleanup was excellent. Finally, their pricing was extremely competitive. I highly recommend Brown's Arbor Care. If any further details are needed on this recommendation, please feel free to contact me personally.

The service was very quick. Shrubs were removed, dirt was brought in and our yard is level for the first time since our house was built. Everything that we asked was done exactly the way we wanted. The yard was sowed in a very timely manner. Scott and the others that worked on our yard were very personable and easy to work with. We would not hesitate to use Everhart Services again and would recommend them to our family and friends.

Grove Park Tree Care responded to my request for an estimate to have several large trees trimmed around my house. Josh came out to my house same day to give me a quote. We scheduled the project for a few days later. On the day if the job, the team was prompt and did everything that was promised. My trees look exceptional. All branches, limbs, and leaves were cleaned up and hauled away. I couldn’t be happier.

        Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

        • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
        • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
