Antonio is the owner, Sergio is his son. Apparently Sergio no longer works for Antonio. However, Antonio is a real gentleman and a professional. They are in demand, so are very busy. Despite his busyness, he found time to fit in my project of hanging a drywall ceiling and putting up crown molding. He also does floors, which I may have him do in the next phase of my project. Cost: $1200

I can't say enough fabulous things about Geoff. He was quick to respond, well presented, on time, communicated very well. We needed a LONG list of SMALL tasks done from securing a light switch to patching a hole in the ceiling, matching and touching up old paint, caulking around the front door, filling in grouting in the bathroom, etc. to ready our house to sell. He worked around our schedule, showed up when he said he would, finished when he said he would, was neat and well organized with his billing. The one item that he could not fix (which he told us upfront he was concerned about) he deducted from the final bill. Call this guy! Hire this guy! We put our house on the market and had a contract in 48 hours. Thanks Geoff. Wish you could move with us. You would be my forever handyman!

I needed a handyman to repair wall tile in bath and install bath fixtures, both of which were challenging. Steve is not only great at problem solving, he's also very versatile. He not only fixed the tile and plumbing for the toilet, he installed the electric wiring for the bath; repaired ceiling damage from roof leak; repaired door frame in bath due to old fixture removal; repaired cracks in walls; painted interior and exterior of house; repaired and painted front porch. His work ethics are admirable. He is on time and cleans as each job is finished. I highly recommend Steve to anyone needing a handyman service! Thank you Steve and Zach!!

Jeremy installed several lighting fixtures for me, including a ceiling fan. He also put together a desk hutch I had purchased 3 years ago, but was unable to assemble. He is hardworking, and has good attention to detail. I was very pleased with his work, and have already scheduled a follow up visit for additional work to be completed. I am very happy to have found a hard working and honest handyman, and am thankful to Jeremy for his excellent work.

I had a leak in my chimney which caused water damage. Louis fixed it all at a reasonable price. Not only did he fix that as he got to my home I asked him to fix several more things. He replaced my water heater and moved it from the kitchen to the basement and he also fixed a ceiling fan. Louis was a pleasure to work with. He was on time and efficient. I will use him again for several all other projects that I have. Thanks Louis

My husband and I were very pleased with the work chris did for us. He is professional and courteous. When installing our ceiling fans, one of the new fans had a bad motor and the other was installed in an area that needed some work before installing. He patiently took the extra time and worked through lunch. His price was reasonable and we will definitely call him again.

They came the next day and were able to determine it was not my roof that was the issue. It was a problem with a duct in the ceiling. They were able to repair it the same day. I will be hiring them for future jobs.

I hired the Honey-do Handyman, Chris Neubauer, to remove two ceiling light fixtures and replace them with ceiling fans. Chris was a little late for our designated time, but he called to inform me that he was running late. This was no big deal to me as I had no other plans that morning. Chris completed the job in about 2.5 hours, and the work was flawless. He took his time and did the job right, which is very important to me. Since I was having 2 fans installed, Chris gave me a discount over the initially quoted price. Since the job took a little longer that anticipated, I paid him the full quoted price and tipped him accordingly! I told him that the next time I needed some work done around the house, I would contact him to do it. I'm very pleased with the work done, and I impressed with Chris himself. Best of luck in the future Chris!

Zuniga Construction has been our go-to construction company for many years. Most recently Sergio and his crews removed the popcorn ceilings in our living and dining rooms and the wall paper from our kitchen. All three rooms were then repainted and they look wonderful. The crews were courteous, very professional at their jobs, and well supervised by the boss. In the past he has also re-roofed our outside storage barn (no small task) and pressure washed, repaired, and re-stained our deck. I would not hesitate to recommend Sergio and his crews to anyone who need construction help.

1) Opened up wall between living room & family room, installed header for support. Case trim opening, repair drywall and paint. 2) I provided a photo of an open staircase that I wanted which opened up stairwell on both sides, framed opening with columns at the bottom. They included all demo, framing, LVL load bearing beams, drywall, painting, trim, decorative spindles, and custom stained handrail. 3) Frame closed my open foyer, drywall, sub-floor, redo ceiling, install light fixtures. Estimated timeline was met. Dan kept me well informed on progress. I received multiple estimates for this project. So happy I chose Dan Wagner with On-Target Construction. I Highly recommend.

I hired Palone Construction in February 2016 to do some custom bookshelves in my home office, wainscoting, install several recessed lights, and to do a custom wood framed accent wall. I have always been very hesitant with contractors because I have had some pretty bad experiences with contractors not showing up on time, not completing the project according to schedule, and overall just not doing a good job. From the first moment that Raymond and Anthony arrived, I could tell that the two knew what they were doing. They arrived every morning by 7:45 AM never took a lunch break and left at 6:30 PM. I have never witnessed such craftsmanship in my life, every cut was precise, and the quality of their work was beyond phenomenal, in addition to the two just being great guys and easy to talk to. I intend to hire Palone Construction again to do a coffered ceiling in my living room. I would HIGHLY recommend this company for any project. Outstanding work!! Thank you guys for making our Houzz pictures a reality!

A few years ago we reached out to Ken to quote an addition that we wanted to do... It ended up being a 835 square foot (24x35) bonus room with a 15 foot vaulted ceiling. I think the only thing he subcontracted out was the electrical and the brick work. Excellent quality and came in on budget.

This project began as a basic ceiling painting job at a beach property less than a month ago. Since then Danny has: replaced two doors; added a sliding door; remodeled the bathroom; changed and installed 5 light fixtures and ceiling fans; installed 450 square feet of flooring; replaced paneling; changed out two sinks; and, we’re still adding to the list. All done professionally, timely; cost-effectively; and with zero supervision. Site kept clean and orderly. Have given him numerous referrals as well. A man of many talents who also keeps your budget in mind and just does things right!!

Tile Installation of Office Kitchen Backsplash; Painting Interior Walls, Ceilings, Doors, Trim, and Cabinets of Office Building. Matthew is meticulous and thorough in whatever he is doing. While offering suggestions, he understood what it was that I was trying to achieve in the backsplash. I couldn't be happier with the quality of his painting; everything looks great!! I was extremely pleased with his ability to cut in the trim, around the cabinets/doors, etc; it was beautifully done. Office Manager/Law Office

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

    What is a general contractor?

When starting a home remodel or new construction project, you will probably hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to take a set of building plans and construct them as outlined. The general contractor may help perform the day-to-day building, or they may just hire workers and oversee all the work activities. In either case, the job of the general contractor is to see that your project gets built.

When you have a building project, ask for bids from various contractors. The bids tell you how much each will charge and what their scope of work will be. Once you have selected a bid, you sign a contract with that general contractor outlining the specifics of the project and the milestones during the project when they will receive payment installments. Once the contract is official, the general contractor will bring in their crew to begin construction. The contractor will manage the workers and subcontractors (anyone who doesn’t work directly for their company but that they need to outsource, like a marble installation pro), order all the materials, obtain work permits, and confirm that all the workers and subcontractors are completing their projects as planned. They typically handle all the payments to the workers and subcontractors, and send you invoice. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.  If you are organized and competent to oversee construction projects, and are able to make sure everything is being built properly and meeting code, it’s possible you can be your own general contractor.

How do you choose a commercial general contractor?

A commercial contractor provides similar services as a residential general contractor but specializes in working with large-scale projects for businesses, schools, nonprofits, governments and development firms. When researching commercial general contractors, review their portfolio of work and confirm they have ample experience working in the area you need. For example, if you are building a small strip mall, ask if the contractors have experience successfully incorporating all the needed elements such as a parking lot, meeting ADA requirements, accessing the proper permits, and completing work on time.

Once you’ve identified several qualified candidates, request bids for your project and then compare the scope of work with your needs and budget. Your commercial general contractor should oversee design, permitting, construction, materials purchase, and adherence to building code and zoning regulations, as well as sticking to an agreed-upon budget and schedule. It’s important to establish clear communication with your future commercial general contractor, as this will mean a smoother process for everyone. For all these reasons, it’s also especially important to follow a few smart hiring practices when it comes to finding a general contractor.

    What do general contractors charge?

If you’re doing a home remodel, building a new home or embarking on a commercial building project, you’ll hire a general contractor. A general contractor is a professional who is qualified to oversee and execute construction projects. Each construction project is unique; even two duplicate homes built on lots next door to each other could have different construction costs due to factors like different excavation costs when building the foundation. Since each project is unique, many general contractors make bids on potential construction projects. These bids can then break down to a per square foot cost that encompasses the labor of all the workers needed for the job, materials, the scope of work, and any equipment needed. Materials and finishes make a major difference in your cost per square foot. For example, choosing standard kitchen tiles at $3 per square foot will result in a lower total project cost than imported marble tiles that cost $63 per square foot. Where you live will also affect how much general contractors charge, as labor and the cost to do business can cost less in many regions than in high-cost areas like New York or San Francisco. Here are some examples of average costs general contractors typically charge in various regions:

    • Home addition in San Francisco: $250-$270 per square foot.
    • New home construction in Knoxville, Tennessee: $100-$200 per square foot.
    • Kitchen remodel in Tennessee: $40-$80 per square foot, depending on finishes.
    • Bathroom remodel in Vancouver, Washington: $110-$170 per square foot.
