Great job and FAST! I own and manage a few investment properties, and a tenant moved out of a house I wanted to fix up to sell. Trying to hit the spring buying market, I scrambled to get things going fast and thus was very unorganized. Contacted Gerald Crawford via thumbtack message over the weekend 4/26, he met me fast, was on time as promised Monday a.m. 4/27. He gave me a fair price, accepted a deposit, emphasized that I didn't have to pay him the balance until I was completely satisfied. He has delivered on that promise. At first, I asked for all 1790 sq ft interior to be painted excluding one bedroom and the laundry room (was thinking of just touching them up). His team started 4/29 (Wednesday) as promised, and was already 95% done by Friday 5/1 even though I threw in/added the laundry room to his list. Since I dove in without a solid plan of all the different jobs I needed done (flooring, cabinets, etc), I found myself changing plans a few times on Gerald, but and his crew were always kind, accommodating and professional. Also very PATIENT with me. I also loved the fact that he uses two coats of high quality Sherwin Williams Cashmere brand paint instead of a quick one-coat job with cheapo paint like other painters I have used, and it was included in his price. He also volunteered to fix a few ceiling stains and cracks at no extra charge. He was to come back Monday to put shelves back/a few small details (a crack in the ceiling), But, my agent advised me to replace the countertops, I pulled them out over the weekend, found some old wall damage from previous owner. I knew he could fix that for me as well, also decided over the weekend that I wanted the extra bedroom painted after all. Since I had floor people coming on Monday, I asked him to hold off a few days and come back to do the small things and new job (the extra bedroom, wall repair behind countertops, etc), all at once. Still waiting on the floor people to finish, looking forward to working with Gerald and his crew again. I am just so impressed by what a neat, tidy job he has already done, and you KNOW he's a saint for putting up with my constantly changing plans. Will take a photo to post of his tidy work and add it later, if I'm allowed. Gerald Crawford is my "go-to" guy from now on. Awesome Gerald, thanks!

I hired Bravo to paint over 66% of the interior in a 2700+ square foot home in the Charlotte, NC area. The project was estimated to take 6 days to complete, but was finished in 5 days. I could not ask for a better experience. Fred is courteous, prompt & professional. He was always available to answer questions before the project began. The crew were fantastic, really great people that worked very hard. They were always on time & did very high quality work. Fred, Sr was the onsite supervisor, & he was just wonderful to work with. The team definitely delivered above and beyond my expectations. I would not hesitate to recommend them to anyone! If I have to make a recommendation to improve the experience, the only suggestion that comes to mind would be to provide shoe covers for the crew to prevent scuff marks on the floor, and keep outside dirt from being carried to upstairs areas. But this is a very minor inconvenience when compared to how amazing my home looks now!

We met with John on a Sunday afternoon. He was dressed way nicer than any other painters that we met with. This was due to the fact that he was on the way to church. That is always a refreshing thing to me. Anyway, he gave us a qoute and told us what kind of paint to get and how many gallons. John and his assistant painted the whole house for us (all walls, but not the bathrooms or closets as per our request. He showed up on time on the first day and worked all day, with the exception of a 15 minute break for lunch. The second and third ay the were on time and very attentive to ANY requests we made or questions we asked. The bottom line is he was a professional and exceeded ALL of my expectations. I WILL hire him in the future. I wish I could give him more stars!!!!

Arrived on time. Very meticulous about preparing to paint(filling nail holes, scraping, etc) Painting is taking a bit of a long time, but rather that than paint being slapped on and leaving. Moved furniture and covered everything that needed to be so no paint would get on anything it wasn't supposed to. Reasonable price for all that was being done.

Bob, from Countryside Home Tech, did a fantastic job with our kitchen renovation! We kept our original cabinets and had Bob paint them white. After painting, they looked as if they had come from the factory that way. He fully dedicated himself to the work at hand, paying strict attention to the smallest detail. Whenever work was subcontracted out, Bob supervised and ensured that the contractors work was effectively done. Bob called back the countertop contractor to tweak our countertops to so the stove fit perfectly. He went above and beyond in fixing our foyer ceiling after the electricians damaged it when installing the new foyer light fixture. We plan to use Bob again to renovate our master bath in the next few months!

Roberto and his crew showed up when they said they would and were very responsive to my requests. They repaired drywall then primed and painted an entire house including trim and popcorn ceilings. I'm having them come back to paint the exterior doors next. Good work and reasonable priced.

I had the crown molding repainted in my foyer, hallway and living room. It was a dark brown and made the first floor look small and chopped. I'm a perfectionist and was looking for a painter who is meticulous and paid attention to detail. After reading the reviews of Fine Finishes Custom Painting, I found what I was looking for. I saw words like "meticulous" and phrases like "did not spill a drop of paint". Consequently, I didn't even bother to get a second estimate. Zachary and Sean are truly professionals. They made sure anything that was not going to get painted was completely covered in plastic (furniture, floor, walls, bookcases). They painted the molding multiple times until they were satisfied that no color showed through, and caulked all edges so it blended with the ceiling. Additionally, they painted the white shoe molding around my bookcases to blend in with the wood. Zachary took extra time to try to find the right color paint for that, and even had a local paint store make up a custom color. And true to the reviews, no paint was spilled! All in all, I'm ecstatic with the way everything looks! My rooms look like they're completely new. I will definitely be hiring Fine Finishes for future projects.

Originally I hired him to patch up some sheet rock. However he also provided a good price to repaint my walls afterwards. He was very professional on time and quite. This was important to me because my wife works from home. I am very happy with Mr. Smarts work and I will not hesitate to hire him again.

Steve was quick to respond and get started. He worked around our timeline. He assured us work would not be completed until we were completely satisfied including seeing the work in the different lights of day. We were very happy with the quality of work and would definitely utilize his services again. Steve uses very high quality paint and supplies and does excellent repair and skim coating. We had him do everything from ceiling repair and paint to wood work and doors. All were areas were excellent.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
