Great job on concrete project. Showed up early, worked hard to provide superior product. We built a 20x18' pad for our camper to be parked on. (Procedure done correctly with thick 8" concrete, stone base, rebar/fencing and 4000 psi). Looks great and built to last.

Our project involved replacing our 60 ft concrete driveway and 40 foot walkway to the front door with pave stones. This was a huge undertaking for us. Todd delivered on his assurance that 360 could do the job. John and his crew worked hard and in a professional manner to complete the work and results are beautiful!

Stoney Wilson with Charlotte Pavers & Stone did a great job with explaining the issues we had with our patio and where the concrete pad was to be poured. We're located on a corner lot and the back yard slops some and the street side slops a great deal. Could be an issue with concrete truck but Stoney said it could be done. Another issue we had is the pad size was a small pour and he would have to fit it in with his other jobs. We had no issues with Stoney's schedule due to the concrete pad size. When they came and poured the concrete, the forms were pulled and dirt filled in the minor spots where the forms were. Yard looks great, like the pad was there when house was built. Stoney did explain the concrete is still green, still curing and hardening, which would take about a week. Don't drag furniture or other heavy items during cure time because it will leave permanent marks. Stoney was great and I would recommend him for any small or big job. Like Stoney said no job is too small. We really appreciate that he took on our small job when no other contractor would consider us. Stoney was very professional, explained everything, his guys cleaned up after themselves. Our neighbors noticed his work immediately and inquired and several are considering contacting him. We recommend Stoney and would use him again.

Dan did an AMAZING job with repairing our stone fireplace! He was a joy to have in our home as he worked his magic with placing our large, solid wood mantel securely on the wall and then wrapping stone around it. Beautifully done!! He went above and beyond our expectations. His skills and personality have made Dan our "go to" guy for masonry projects. I definitely recommend going with Dan!!

4:13 built and installed a beautiful wrought iron railing for the stone stairs that lead to our patio. They were great to work with, quick to respond, very nice and professional, and the railing is excellent craftsmanship - and at a much better price than the other quote I received from a competitor. I would definitely recommend them.

First let me say I thought a deck was a deck, but what we got was a masterpiece. With such workmanship, and reasonable prices, my mind started to think my backyard oasis could come true. We moved on to my most anticipated chic shack for my alone time enjoying my hobbies, then my husband moved on to a new shed. Our newest addition is our soon to be beautiful pavilion with a stone fireplace and pool deck. I owe it all to my trustworthy friends at LDC. They have went above and beyond to make my dreams come true. They are creative, hardworking, dedicated people who really care about their clients and their workmanship. A million percent referred.

Nile and his team did a magnificent job installing my pavers and river stones. They went the extra mile by repairing items that were not part of the job, ie a cut in my irrigation system. I would highly recommend this company for any Landscaping job. Hats off to Cid and his teamates.

I recently had my small backyard of grass and weeds converted to a paved patio by Celvin and his team. Celvin was very professional to work with. He was competitive with pricing, shared several options when I was trying to decide how to design the patio, and provided me with a local company where I could see different paver stones before making a color choice. Celvin and his crew arrived at the promised dates and times, were committed to the schedule they promised me, and did a great job cleaning up after the work was completed. They also made sure I was happy with the final job and came back several times to add some finishing touches as the patio settled in. I look forward to using my patio and am really happy with how it looks. I highly recommend this company and will be using them again. Thank you Celvin!

We hired Eddie to turn our old, outdated fireplace into a more custom looking fireplace. Eddie was very personable and punctual when he came to give us a quote. He directed us to a great place in Charlotte to purchase the stone we needed for our project and told me exactly how much I needed to order. During the process, he was attentive to our wishes, asking questions as he worked to make sure we were happy with it each step of the way. We are thrilled with the end result. I highly recommend Eddie and his team!

We had 9.5 yards of mulch spread in our back yard as well as a stone border placed around multiple garden beds for water diversion by Hunter Grounds. The work product was excellent. Sam Hunter is very professional. He is reliable and works very efficiently. He also made himself available to fulfill our requests in a very timely manner. We will definitely call Hunter Grounds again for future lawn needs and recommend them to others in the future!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long does it take to install a hardwood floor?

Hardwood floor installation can take anywhere from a few days to more than two weeks, depending on demolition, wood type, the condition of your subfloor, total square footage of the project, and installation method. Demolition is necessary if you have existing flooring you want to replace with hardwood floors. New-construction homes do not require this step, as the subfloor is primed and ready for floor installation. During demolition, the flooring crew may find that your subfloor has damaged wood, uneven surfaces or other problems that must be addressed before the new wood can be laid down. Crews may charge on an hourly rate for subfloor repair, and the work can take a few hours to several days, depending on what’s hiding underneath your floor. The wood for your new floor generally arrives a few days before any work begins. This allows the wood to acclimate to the relative humidity in your house, which prevents it from shrinking or expanding after installation and causing gaps or buckling. The actual wood installation may take several days or more, depending on the size of your home and what type of custom cutting and designs are desired. If your flooring is not prefinished, the unfinished wood must then be sanded and stained in the home to treat and protect your new investment. Typically, stain takes a full day to dry, and multiple coats are applied. Baseboards and trim must also be installed. With all these variables at play, you can see why it’s important for a wood installation pro to provide an estimate only after seeing your home.

How much does it cost to install flooring?

On average, Thumbtack customers nationwide pay $5,500 for floor installation. The cost can range much lower or higher depending on the type of flooring you select (laminate is far less expensive than exotic hardwood), the square footage of the project, and other important variables like demolition and repair work needed. Here are some examples of average floor installation cost:

  • Basic floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • This can range up to $7 or $8 per square foot when tear-out and prep work is required.
  • Laminate floor and installation cost: $3-$8 per square foot.
    • Laminate is one of the most affordable materials and can start as low as $1.50 per square foot.
  • Wood floor installation cost: $3 per square foot (not including product).
    • $7 and up for hand-scraped oak planks and other specialized work.
  • Luxury vinyl tile installation: $3.50+ per square foot (not including tiles).
    • Cost includes prep work, underlayment, leveling and grouting.
  • Examples of additional floor installation costs:
    • Pouring concrete to level the under-flooring: $1,000-$1,500 for materials and labor.
    • Removing carpet: 35 cents or more per square foot.
    • Removing difficult ceramic or porcelain tile: about $2.25 per square foot.
      • Includes removal of the dura rock.
  • Floor repair: $75 minimum.

How much does it cost to install hardwood floors?

The cost of hardwood floors will depend primarily on the total square footage of flooring, the type of wood you select, the cost of labor in your region, and any preparation or repair work that needs to take place before installation. Selecting exotic woods, such as teak, will result in a higher cost for the project than a more affordable wood such as oak. The national average cost of hardwood floor installation is $5,750. Here are some examples of different woods and their average costs; actual costs will vary depending on the factors listed above.

  • Basic wood floor installation: $3 per square foot from a wood floor installation company.
    • The product cost for hand-scraped ¾-inch oak planks: $7 per square foot.
  • 620 square feet of maple floor:
    • Residential installation, total project cost: ~ $2,400 with five days of labor.
    • ¾-inch dark stained maple installed on top of new concrete in three rooms, a hallways, and a staircase.
      • Cost for total project: ~$3.87 per square foot.

How much are oak hardwood floors?

Installing oak hardwood floors can add value and beauty to your home. The cost of hardwood floors is typically based on the overall square footage of your new floor, the type of oak you select, any repair work your subfloor requires prior to installation, and any demolition costs to remove your old flooring. Other factors that will affect your total cost can include the regional cost of labor and business overhead of your flooring company.

A flooring installation company may charge $3 per square foot for standard installation. For hand-scraped (higher-end) ¾-inch oak planks, the cost is approximately $7 per square foot, for a total cost per square foot of about $10 as long as no repair work is required. Standard oak planks are available from big-box stores for as low as $3 per square foot, so the quality of oak you want will affect your total project cost.
