We have a beautiful enclosed porch!! Thank you, Nick! This is the first time I hired Nick and am so happy I did. We had a deck that we wanted to enclose. Even though we had some ideas, Nick is very knowledgeable and offered great advice thruout the project; especially with the EZbreeze windows. He is very professional, communication was plentiful with Nick and Kim, and the workmanship was well beyond our expectation! If you want a contractor who arrives as promised, takes pride in his work, gives a fair and reasonable quote, then completes work quickly and efficently please call Nick. Both Nick and his wife, Kim, are an absolute pleasure to work with.

I needed someone to install insulation in my crawl space asap because my house went on the market and we had a buyer the next day. They did a great job, came out the next day (Friday) to give me a quote and did the job over the weekend. I could not be happier! I will hire them again for all my other projects.

I had the original storm windows from the 60's and replaced them all with new energy efficient windows! The install went smoothly and was finished in one day. The only thing I had to do was give a clear path to the window. I would highly recommend Energy Masters for your window needs.

Steve came over to install curtain rods on three windows, two of which were corner windows. I had also asked him to remove a partially-detached towel bar in a bathroom. He arrived right on time and got right to work. He tackled the towel bar issue first so that he was able to put two coats of plaster on before leaving, which means that I just need to do a very light sanding and then repainting on my own. The curtain rods turned out great, too! My walls are plaster, and had either brick or steel behind them in certain places, so the job had a few challenges. Also, it's an old building, and the resultant settling meant that he had to make some slight allowances for the positioning of the brackets so that the curtains hung evenly. Steve was great at helping me think through how close I wanted the rods to extend across the window frame, given that the windows were on located near/at the room corners. For the corner windows, he suggested placing the inside brackets halfway across the rod, so that the curtain panels would be spaced more evenly and would fall better. The finials on my rods were small, but Steve allowed enough space on the end window to allow for larger finials, without hitting up against the right angle wall. Given the technical expertise required on this job, as well as his design and planning thoughts, I am very grateful to have had Steve come over and get the job done!

I'm very pleased with No Leak Roofing.... Darrell was very professional and prompt....I called Darrell on a Monday to come out to inspect my roof for a leak...He was there within an hour....He came out and inspected the roof and took pictures to show me his finding, there was wind and hail damage, Darrell explained to me that since this was damage from a storm,my insurance company should pay to replace the roof....He told me to call and place a claim with Nationwide and he even offered to meet the adjuster at the house and walk through the inspection with her... Darrell explained the process to me told me exactly what he was going to do and gave me a time frame...A week later I had a new roof... he also, had to replace some of the sidings on the side of the house and replace four screens on the windows outside... and paint the ceiling in one of the bedrooms...He worked around my schedule and was consideret of my time...He would always come earlier than the time we agreed on...I called Darrell on February 20th and the roof was replaced on March 3rd, the remaining work was completed by March 13th. Darrell was great to work with and has given me a peace of mind.... No More Leaks Thanks for your friendly and knowledgeable service. Anne

John came out to install 3 doors in our home. Not only did a wonderful job with that installation, he also did a renovation of our bathroom at the same time. The turn around from the time he came out to do the estimate until the job was complete was so fast. He is extremely professional, on time and his work is of amazing quality. After 20 years in Charlotte it is amazing to find an honest and trustworthy contractor. I will definitely be using him again soon.

I hired J&P to do my job for several reasons. First and foremost was the fact that they arrived promptly when they said they were going to, after having given me an hour prior courtesy call. In my experience, the little things go a long way, and these things made a big difference to me. I showed them the job, which involved a lot of different projects, including painting all the ceilings, fixing drywall in the ceiling, painting exterior walls, scraping paint off of all my windows, painting miscellaneous trim/doors/etc, installing vinyl on three room floors, and caulking up the entire house. The goal of the project was to essentially "button up" the house in order to get it on the market. As I showed them the work, and explained what I wanted, they understood exactly and communicated professionally and coherently the entire time. They gave me a very good quote for the work, and a timetable, and so I hired them. They finished the project almost a week ahead of schedule, and called me in to look it over. They went back and fixed or touched up ever little thing I pointed out with no complaints or anything. Even after the job was complete and payment had been made, I discovered water damage cause directly by an honest mistake one of the crew had made, and when I called them back about it, they were very quick to apologize, and came out the very next day to fix and replace all the damaged drywall and the leak at their own expense. Their attitude was exceptional, and I wish every crew were as professional as these guys. The only thing I would say is that maybe they should pay a bit more attention to some of the details, and make sure all the projects are completely done to the highest quality standard, not just the fastest time, and they would have gotten five stars from me. Overall, however, nothing but praise for these guys, as we buy and flip houses in the future, I have already talked to them about being my remodel crew, I would absolutely recommend them to anyone for any project, and you can count on the fact that I will be maintaining a healthy related with these guys and using them in the future. Thanks guys!!!

Great Experienced Professional Exterior Painters! We are very pleased with Jackson’s workers and services he’d provided. He showed up promptly on time to give us a quote, worked very fast to finalize the details on what is asked and cost estimate. We were very happy with the process and would highly recommend Jackson and his team to others needing paint project. The project took about 7 business days. They taped the windows and doors and covered my newly remodeled deck so paint doesn’t get on it. They worked through painting the trims and edges with double coats of white paint. They sprayed the siding of the home.... which gave it a nice even coat! They painted the beams underneath the deck as well and garage door. We are very happy with the results. Once complete, we finalized and did a walk through for touch up and clean up on recess paints etc.... surprisingly ... there wasn’t a lot of excess mess left. He even pressured wash and cleaned the driveway for us because of some paint that was dropped by his workers. Some of his workers do no speak English but My communication with Jackson was sufficient enough to convey what my needs were with the project and the information trickles down. Again, VERY happy with his work and team! He’s very pleasant to deal with and very customer service oriented! We feel like we have a brand new home! Thanks Jackson and Team!!!

I hired YLRC to do some repair and repainting of my soffits and fascia boards, and it was a great experience. The crew was polite and professional, and Charles, the owner, was very flexible, especially after I had to delay the project for a couple of weeks. They apparently do a few other odd jobs like windows in addition to roofing, so I would definitely consider hiring them again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you replace a window?

You may want to replace a window if the glass has been damaged, you’re remodeling a room, or you want to upgrade your energy efficiency as well as your style by getting rid of those drafty single panes that are losing you money. When replacing a window, you can remove and replace the entire window down to the house frame. This method is best if the existing frame is damaged or deteriorating, but requires construction skills and know-how and will take more time and money. An easier and less expensive option is to install an insert replacement window into the existing frame. Insert replacements are only an option if your window frame is in good condition without rot or damage.

When replacing an entire window, first you’ll carefully remove the existing window with a pry bar and other tools. Next, you’ll make any repairs and adjustments needed to the existing frame or header and studs to ensure that the space is perfectly plumb and square, so the new window will sit perfectly within the space. Next, install the new window from the exterior, securing it into place. You’ll need to precisely wrap and insulate the window to ensure it doesn’t leak. Then, install the interior casing and exterior trim (as needed). If you prefer to hire a professional to install a window, consider replacing more than one window at a time, as the pro can work more efficiently.

How much is a custom window?

Choosing custom windows will increase your window installation cost but will provide you with exactly what you want. The average national cost for window installation is $2,650. Your custom window costs will vary based on several factors. The first factor is the type of frame you want. The four most common types of frames are vinyl, fiberglass, aluminum and wood. Wood is typically the most expensive option, followed by aluminum. The type of glass you select will also affect cost. There are single-, double- and triple-pane windows. Most double- and triple-pane windows have gas sealed between the panes that act as insulation. Windows typically cost more the more energy-efficient they are, though this efficiency can save you money on utility bills in the long run. The type of glass used can also affect cost. There are different grades of glass — high-performance glass, low-e coated glass, and more — which all provide you with better insulation. In addition, the number of unified inches (window height x window width) you need will affect cost. The cost of custom windows will also be affected by installation cost and whether any repair or construction work is required to properly fit the new window.

How much would it cost to put in new windows?

The cost to replace a window can vary depending on factors such as window size, type of glass, brand of window, necessary trim repair, and any construction work required for installation. Labor rates and cost to do business in your region will also affect the cost. The national average window installation cost is $2,650 per project. Here are some examples of average trim repair and window replacement costs:

  • Trim repair:
    • Line and case a window frame with an MDF product: $400.
    • Line and case a window frame with raw hemlock wood: $500.
  • Approximate cost to install five windows at one time: $3,000.
  • Approximate cost to install one double-hung, energy-efficient 3-foot by 4-foot window: $500-$550.
    • For the same window size (3-foot by 4-foot) from a different manufacturer made with a specialty fiberglass exterior and all-wood interior, the cost could go up to $1,500.
    • Pricing can go as high as $5,000 for a bay or bow window with specialty glass and framing.
      • These examples include removal and disposal of old materials and window.
