I needed to have my disposal removed from my kitchen sink. It had a bad oder and would fill up with water if I wasn't careful in keeping water out of that particular side. It took him about an hour or so. I can use BOTH sides now, I'm extremely happy with my sink! ! He was very professional and friendly!! He also seemed very knowledgeable about what he was doing and he explained everything he was going to do before hand. He did great work for a reasonable price. I would definitely hire him again for future projects and I recommend you give him a shot. You'll be pleased :)

Nick is a very personal guy with a lot of experience and creativity. We hired him to drywall our garage and build shelving for storage. BJ did the work. It was very well done. He is very meticulous and left the work area clean and organized at the end of each day. He encouraged us to enclose the water heater area which did increase the estimated labor and materials. We are very happy with the job and I recommend Nick Gillaspie.

John flushed my tankless water heater, replaced a toilet and, more importantly, assessed & repaired the pipes in the crawl space. In short, another company estimated the crawl space job at $6600. John was $385.John seemed more professional, educated &ethical.

Rapp's HVAC and plumbing installed 2 new furnaces, 2 HVACs, new plumbing and a tank less water system. You judge a successful business by your last happy customer. Well I'd say your business is successful because of the employees you put on the front line. Aaron Knight is extremely professional, honest, genuine and thorough. He demonstrates a work ethic above others and I've shown my appreciation by forwarding him at least 4 referrals already since our completed job which have turned into signed contracts. I can't say enough how appreciative we are of Rapp's employees and especially Aaron Knight. Thank you and I look forward to working and giving you referrals for years to come.

Matt was very helpful in replacing my water heater. My water heater went out and was leaking, he came over and told me that the heater rusted out of the bottom and that we needed to get a new one. Matt was very fast and responsive. The whole time he explained what he was doing and why he had to do it. He didn't try to trick me into buying the most expensive equipment either. I would recommend him to anyone that is in need of some plumbing work and I will definitely be calling him again in the future for anymore needs.

I couldn't say enough about how happy I am with Hinson Brothers and the work they did for me. They replaced my 15 year old tank water heater (gas) to a new tank water heater (gas) with expansion tank next day. Only took a couple of hours. Very professional staff. Great communication and explanation of things and options. Took less than $1000 to replace my current water heater, add components that would bring my water heater up to code (expansion tank etc.) and remove my old water heater. Thanks again!

Wow, wow, wow! Where has Joshua been for all the years I've could've used solid, sound, detailed attentive work to detail! I will no longer seek anyone else for assistance unless it's a job he can't perform. He blew in insulation I'm my attack to 29" deep, replaced my dryer vent that was crazy high at the top of my house and reinstalled my privacy gate fences to open and close evenly. Let me tell you and believe me, he is a class act. After being overcharged with horrible results in the past, I was very hesitant to hire anyone, but upon introduction and seeing his professionalism I went through with it and gave it a try. He will be my first call hands down moving forth! Awesome work, awesome person, extreme professionalism!

I’ve used 4 D’s plumbing for both my rental house and my primary residence. My renter told me I needed to replace my kitchen faucet and sink due to leaks. Ed was able to go over in diagnose the problem for me. He solved the problem without replacing either of them- saving me the cost of replacement. He also brought my hot water heater up to code by installing an expansion tank when he replaced the old hot water heater. For my primary residence he installed new waterlines, new waste lines, faucets and and a shower head in my bathroom, and a macerator tank for my renovation. He also discovered and fixed an issue with my tankless hot water heater that another plumber installed. He’s my ‘go to’ guy for plumbing. I’ve given his contact info to anyone I know who’s looking for a GOOD plumber! Hardworking and very knowledgeable guy- I wouldn’t recommend anyone else.

Amen Plumbing gave me an overall wonderful experience. My call was quickly answered, and the company scheduled an appointment around my difficult work schedule. Chuck was the technician who came to my house, he was absolutely great. He was very professional and clearly explained all of my options, making me completely comfortable with my decision to buy a tankless water heater. Chuck had the entire job completed in half a day and left my house just as clean (if not cleaner) than what it was when he got here. I would recommend Amen Plumbing to any one with plumbing needs!

Chris did an excellent job at fixing my water heater. He was very knowledgeable, thorough, and did the job for a very reasonable fee. I can tell that he deeply cares about his customers and is very reliable. I was so pleased with this experience that I also hired Chris to come out next weekend to touch up my kitchen and bathroom cabinets and work on other things around the house. I would highly recommend Chris to anyone.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How long is a water heater supposed to last?

Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

  • Leaks: If leaking is not caused by loose connections, the water may be seeping out through slight fractures in the metal of the tank that have formed over time.
  • Strange noises: Clanking, rumbling and other noises can mean that sediment has formed on the base of your tank, contributing to fissures leaks, and inefficiency.
  • Age: If it’s more than 10 years old, it’s probably time to replace.
  • Discolored or rusty water: Have a pro check it out; if the problem isn’t resolved by draining and cleaning, you’ll want to replace the heater.
  • Lack of hot water: Inconsistent heating and hot water supply that runs out too quickly likely means it’s time for a new unit.

When is it time to replace a water heater?

Although regular water heater maintenance and water heater repair may extend the life of your hot water heater, it won’t last forever. Most water heaters have a life expectancy of about 10 years. Many water heaters need to be replaced when they’re 8-12 years old — that’s when they start to show signs of fatal wear, such as leaking around the base of the tank. A water heater should be replaced when it fails to sufficiently heat water for the home; if your heater is operating erratically, check first for a blown fuse or a tripped breaker to make sure an electrical issue isn’t causing the problem. Another time to replace a water heater is when you want to upgrade to either a larger model or a more energy-efficient one.

Why is my hot water not working?

The most common complaint among homeowners is that their hot water isn’t working — and the water heater is generally the culprit. Typically, it isn’t making the water as hot as you’d like it to be. When the water isn’t hot enough — or isn’t hot at all — run through this troubleshooting checklist for basic water heater repair tasks:

  • Make sure the power is connected to the heater, then reset the thermostat.
  • If it’s a gas water heater, make sure the pilot light is lit.
  • Raise the temperature setting on the thermostat.

If these stops don’t lead to hot water, it’s time to either check the heating element in an electric water heater or the burner unit and gas control valve in a gas-powered heater. A water heater repair and maintenance company can handle these repair jobs. However, if your hot water heater is eight years or older, it may be time to replace the water heater instead of repairing it.

Who can fix a water heater?

When a water heater stops running effectively, it’s best to hire a water heater repair professional to troubleshoot the problem. Whether it’s a plumbing company that offers water heater repair services or a provider specializing in water heater repair and maintenance, most repair companies offer same-day service as well as weekend and after-hours emergency calls. Usually, water heater repair professionals are experts in both electric and gas systems, as well as tank and tankless heaters, and can repair any kind of unit.

Why is the water in my house not getting hot?

If the water in your house is not getting hot, it may be time for water heater repair. Nationally, the average water heater repair cost ranges between $120 and $200, although prices can range up to $400, depending on the problem and materials. Competent homeowners may also be able to try DIY fixes, whether they have a traditional gas or electric water heater or a tankless gas or electric heater. Troubleshooting the different issues that can arise with each of the styles requires some knowledge of how they operate and what red flags to look out for. For a natural gas water heater, the first step is to check whether the pilot light has gone out. It’s important to follow the manufacturer’s directions if you want to relight it yourself. If you smell gas, stop everything and call your gas company — the smell could signal a dangerous gas leak. If your household’s water is not getting hot enough, you can try increasing the temperature on the water heater’s front dial above the standard setting of 120 degrees; for safety, always turn off electricity to the unit before adjusting temperatures. If you keep running out of hot water, your household may simply need a higher-capacity water heater, so consider upgrading. Quick professional fixes include replacing the thermostat or heating elements and cleaning and repairing the thermocouple.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
