Very large job, which consisted of new roof, sheet rock, painting, hanging doors, replacement windows, wall demolition and cutting trim. I feel certain I may have left something out. Mr. Beard and his team did a great job and was there everyday until the project was completed. Very friendly and easy to work with. I recommend maintenance man for all your home repair needs. Thank you Maynard!

I needed a handyman to repair wall tile in bath and install bath fixtures, both of which were challenging. Steve is not only great at problem solving, he's also very versatile. He not only fixed the tile and plumbing for the toilet, he installed the electric wiring for the bath; repaired ceiling damage from roof leak; repaired door frame in bath due to old fixture removal; repaired cracks in walls; painted interior and exterior of house; repaired and painted front porch. His work ethics are admirable. He is on time and cleans as each job is finished. I highly recommend Steve to anyone needing a handyman service! Thank you Steve and Zach!!

Overall good job. Painted all closets, 3 bedrooms, 2 baths, living room, dining room, kitchen, foyer. Did a lot of sanding and wallpaper take down and wall repai that wasn't expected, but paid more than quote. Came back several times to fix items. Concerns: insist on painters tape to be used first time, area should be cleaned before leaving for day( sand dust everywhere) ceiling in kitchen still needs more sanding, but tired of painting. Get clear all these details before job is started.

Ramon did a wonderful job painting all our downstairs ceilings (15 ft tall and covered with popcorn texture), as well as painting our great room. The wall color is very dark, so any imperfection would really show. The job he did was perfect! We also had him pressure wash the exterior of our home. Once again, perfect. Ramon is punctual, professional, very neat, and just an overall nice person. Highly recommended!

No frills mold cleanup service at a fraction of the cost that “big name” competitors would charge. These boys were all local and were exactly what we needed and extremely responsive on such short notice. We also used them for drywall repair, painting, carpet cleaning, and heavy lifting furniture moving.

Mr. Todd had completed many projects for me over the years. I always contact him when needing a project or just repairs done. He built a fabulous fire pit in my back yard that I use all the time. Put on a new roof a few years back, and still no leaks or issues. Performed minor plumbing jobs, again no issues as yet. Drywall, painting, siding, the list goes on. Very knowledgeable and professional young man. He was almost always on time when expected, although there were some times when materials might not have arrived on time, etc., or that weather could delay work, both understandable. There was also a situation where I needed to call him back to fix something minor and he did it happily and in a timely manner.

Our request for a quote was answered quickly and a visit to see and quote the project was arranged. Alex arrived on time and quoted a reasonable price. We agreed but postponed the actual work as we were leaving town. When we called to schedule the painting he could do it the next day. We added pressure washing of our deck to the rail painting. Two man arrived on schedule, completed the pressure washing and painting in a neat, thorough and professional manner. I could not have asked for more. I can confidently recommend them to anyone reading this post. For the record, this is unbiased and they are not friends, relatives nor was I paid for my recommendation.

I went with my gut instinct and chose Kimberley and Patrick to re-tile my guest bathroom floor. They were quick to respond and answered all of my questions. The thing that set them apart from the rest was that they eased my concern about leaving subcontractors at my house to help with the job. They assured me that it would just be the two of them, and they held to their word. They estimated how long the job would take, and they worked very hard to make that happen. Highly pleased and definitely have them on my "call list" should I need any other projects completed (which knowing me...I will!). Great job, guys!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
