Daniel is my go to! I can't say enough positive things about him and his work. Daniel has come out to my house for emergency plumbing, dish washer installation and bathroom remodeling. I have been nothing short of thrilled with his work. He is a GREAT communicator. He treats your money like his own. He is honest but respectful. He cleans up after himself. I call him for everything I need. I would highly recommend. You won't be disappointed!

I hired Antonio remodeling/renovations to replace rotten wood and repaint the exterior of my house and they did an outstanding job. Once I decided to use them the guys went straight to work and finished the job professionally and within the time frame stated. I would highly recommend them to my friends and family and those looking to do home improvement projects. I plan on using them again.

The quality of their work far surpasses others we've contracted. They were on-time and went out of their way to protect our stairs, walls and trim (which our last contractor always seemed to leave covered in burns and paint overspray). Jack communicated every step of the way and was a pleasure to work with.

I was at my son's house in Greensboro. His front steps and walk way had crumbled. Not knowing any contractors to do this job we got on Thumbtack. Dan made the extra effort to meet with us on the weekend while I was still there. He let us know it would be a few weeks before he could get to the job. However he gave us options to save money and have the steps match the brick of the house (which is very old). We were very happy with that option and his quote was reasonable. He contacted us every week to let us know he had not forgotten us and then gave us an exact date he would be there. My son and his wife are very pleased with these new steps and sidewalk. Dan did a great job and I would highly recommend him.

Steve came behind other contractors who had botched everything they touched. He was willing to fix everything that was wrong no matter how bad it was. He stayed until the project was finished and never left, even after multiple delays and add-ons. Steve is a stand up guy and I would hire him again.

The other contractor was a no show twice. Walter Construction showed up on time to give look at the job, quoted it and completed the job beautifully. I will be contacting them in the future to do more work for us.

Matt designed and built an extension cabinet, replaced countertops and framed out my dishwasher. Matt did a great job listening to me as I changed my mind about what I wanted and needed many times.. He was very accurate and reasonable in his pricing of the job. He and his helper were quick and clean. He is extremely easy to work with. I have and will continue to recommend him to my friends for remodeling projects or new ones. Thanks, American Made!

Todd did an excellent job installing a new tile floor and shower in my upstairs bathroom. He's a very skilled contractor who is easy to work with and has fair prices. I've gotten so many compliments about how beautiful the tile work is.

They have been extremely professional and hard working during the entire process of remodeling of both our (1) foyer and (2) bathroom. Kimberley and Patrick have been very responsive, they have paid attention to details, and have provided suggestions for improvements that we would have otherwise missed. Highly recommended.

Wow! We could not be happier. Our crawl space is spotless! Mr. Nunoz responded quickly to our request and was able to meet with us, inspect the job, give a quote, and, knowing we were on a tight timeline because of a scheduled flooring installation, he completed the job within two days! He is very knowledgeable and conscientious about doing the job correctly. We have a long list of remodeling projects and will definitely call Mr. Nunoz before any other company. He is a very hard working and honest man. A pleasure to do business with!

We had our bathroom remodeled by R&R Construction. We're so happy with the work that was done. He took time to explain the process and what had to be done (at a reasonable price). I am so excited with the outcome. I really enjoyed going into my bathroom now. You can see for yourself in the photo. Great service and company!!!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Why should you hire a contractor?

Hiring a general contractor is a good idea for many remodeling projects. Home renovation contractors have a broad range of skills to manage, coordinate and complete a project. They should help make sure your project comes in on time and within your budget as they hire and supervise all the necessary subcontractors, including electricians and plumbers. They also handle procuring all the materials required for your job. Some homeowners look to save money by acting as their own contractor, but an experienced home renovation contractor is worth the cost. They should know local building codes, be able to pull all necessary permits, and work with inspectors to make sure the construction meets local codes. Also, because they get professional discounts, they can typically buy materials at a better price than you can; better prices on materials and labor save you money, and make up for at least a percentage of the cost of the contractor.

When should you hire a contractor?

A few home remodeling projects can be done by an ambitious DIY-minded homeowner or local handyman, but many are best completed by a professional home renovation contractor. You should hire a contractor when you’re planning a large project that takes time, machinery or large tools, and several workers; a kitchen remodel, new bathroom or home addition will be most successful with a licensed, expert contractor at the helm. It’s particularly important to have a professional contractor on board for construction, electrical, plumbing and HVAC projects that require inspections to meet local building codes. Of course, you can hire a contractor for smaller projects, too, if you prefer to let an expert handle things like addition or removal of a wall, small framing projects, or anything that requires a permit.

You should hire a contractor when you’re ready to start a remodeling project and you have plans, a budget and a timeline for the work in hand, but before any remodeling work begins.

How much will it cost to remodel my house?

The cost to remodel a home is highly variable — size and scope of the project, quality of materials, and the number of subcontractors required to complete the job all affect the total cost. The average national cost of a home renovation project is $13,500. The national average per-square-foot cost of a remodel ranges from $25 to $100. Nationally, kitchen and bathroom remodels are the most popular types of projects, in part because they typically have the highest return on investment when the home is sold. The national average cost of a major kitchen remodel ranges from $25,000 to $62,000, while the average bathroom remodel tends to cost $6,000 to $18,000. In addition to materials and labor costs, many remodeling project costs include permit fees, which, average $900 or more, depending on your location.

Do I need a contractor for a kitchen remodel?

A kitchen remodel is one of the most important investments you can make in your home, and it’s critical to get the details right; that’s where a home renovation contractor comes in. A minor remodel usually includes new cabinet faces and hardware, replacement appliances, and paint, while an extensive job may enlarge the kitchen’s square footage, install new cabinets or an island, change the layout, and lay new tile or hardwood floors. Any renovation that includes filing permits, construction, or electrical or plumbing work is best completed by an experienced contractor who knows local codes.
