Donnie showed up promptly, quoted an acceptable price for grinding out a significant stump and collection of large roots and began work (even though we were into the evening hours). He did a thorough job, went beyond expectations in assisting with cleanup and offered up suggestions for our next tree project. Would most certainly call him again for any tree service needs.

Brayan and the crew arrived and had my lawn trimmed/mowed and cleaned of tree debris in 15 mins. On top of that they charge half of what everyone else does. Him and his crew were nice too. I will definitely recommend and rehire. Good job.

Kevin McKoy is OUTSTANDING. He is fair and honest. His forte is lawn care, however, he has a wide resource of networks to extend his services for his customers. I initially contacted McKoy's Lawn Care & Maintenance to give a quote on a fence/gate project. The fence/gate projected expanded to front lawn repair, french drain and flower bed installation. Then he did a full back yard makeover: rock path, lawn, tree & plant installation, flower bed preparation, connecting gutter pipes to drain properly, and large flower/garden beds. In addition, when there was a slight tweak (correction), he was accommodating and ensured that the fix was completed satisfactorily. I would recommend Kevin McKoy.

He really did a great job and was able to do the work soon after quoting. Rob was friendly, knowledgeable, and communicated very well. The only reason I gave a 4/5 is the price. First let me say that my backyard was a mess. I have poison ivy, vines, overgrown trees and much more. However, it’s only a small portion of my back yard and I was quoted $775. That’s about $90/hour for the amount of time he was there. I’m by no means trying to discourage anyone from using Rob, he did a great job, but $90/hour may be quite steep for lawn work....that’s almost 3 times what I make with an engineering degree. In the end he knocked off $200 because I said I would do bagging up of the sticks and leaves. It only took me 1.5 hours to do...It doesn’t make sense to pay someone $100/hr to gather up sticks and put them on the curb.

Pleasant guys to work with. Friendly and professional. They had a bit harder time in our yard because of unexpected tree roots from a tree that had been removed in the past. The yard is still scarred up in a couple of areas from the trenches they had to dig. This is mostly because of the heavy rains we had after installation washing the dirt and grass seed away. It took a couple of trips back out here to fine tune the system, but they happily did it.

I was very pleased with the tree service from Presto Landscape & Tree. Jose and his brother trimmed the overgrown tree in my front yard and ALL the bushes/trees in my backyard (about 20 in total). He was very personable, worked very hard in the 90 degree heat, and gave me a fair price for the job. I would use him again for my tree trimming needs and would recommended him.

Frank was professional and friendly. He came at time he said he would. He did mosquito control for our yard and took his time to treat every single tree/bush, and even treated some standing water as well. We're looking forward to continuing working with him throughout the season. Highly recommend!

Jordan is wonderful! He worked especially hard on our difficult yard and he knows what to do without guidance. He is professional and I would recommend him for whatever yard projects you have in mind easy or difficult! I love how he treats your property and yard as if its the way he would treat his own. I has just purchased the house about a year ago and the previous owner had beautiful plants and shrubbery that I wasn't sure what to do about. Jordan is very knowledgeable and helped me identify a few of my plants as well as my sequoia tree which I thought was a cedar tree up until he visited. You wont go wrong if you hire Jordan!

Clay and two guys took out trees, tilled in topsoil, sod my front yard and seeded my large back yard. Clay is extremely friendly and professional. He has the necessary heavy equipment to make quick work of a large project. Afterwards, they cleaned up my driveway and street, using a power washer. I would definite use Green Tek Landscapes again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost to remove a tree stump?

Once you have a tree cut down, you’ll probably want to remove the tree stump as well. You may want the stump removed for aesthetics, the tree stump could be diseased, you might want to prevent regrowth, or you may find the roots are causing problems and need to be removed. Tree removal costs don’t always include the cost to grind out or dig out a tree stump after the tree has been felled and the trunk removed. The national average cost for stump removal ranges from $150 to $200. There are two main methods for dealing with tree stumps. In grinding, pros use a chipping machine to grind away the above-level tree stump until it sits just below the soil surface. Tree stump removal entails lifting the entire root ball of a tree out of the soil. Removing the stump will leave a hole in the ground and also take more time, labor and money than stump grinding. Here are some examples of average tree stump removal costs:

  • Stump grinding: $2-$4 per inch.
  • Tree stump removal: average of $60-$350.

The final price will depend on the stump’s size, condition, location and condition of the soil around it.

How much does it cost to trim a tree?

The national price range for tree trimming is $270-$450. Tree trimming is often done by a professional arborist who is trained to safely trim and prune trees for both the health of the tree and the safety of the residents and their property. Trying to do your own tree trimming is not advisable unless you have the proper know-how. Tree trimming companies may charge an hourly rate for their services. The hourly rate may be higher or lower for different trees to reflect the relative safety measures, skill, equipment or people power needed to handle the job. For this reason, most tree services provide free estimates.

One example of an hourly rate for professional tree trimming services is $150 per hour. Costs may be under $100 or could be higher than $300 per hour, depending on variables such as proximity to buildings, health of the tree, height and diameter of the tree, and type of tree trimming desired. Geography and regional cost of living and regional costs to do business will also play a role in your tree removal costs.

How much does it cost to remove a fallen tree?

If you need to have a tree cut down, have you planned what will happen next? Arborists often charge an additional fee to quarter and remove the fallen tree from your property, so anticipate this as part of your tree removal costs. You can elect to have the wood cut for use in your fireplace, or you may prefer to have it hauled away completely.

Tree removal costs may vary based on the height and the width of the felled tree. Size affects the labor required for removal, which will be reflected in the cost. For example, a tree service company may charge an additional $100-$120 to haul away the pieces of a felled tree. The service may cost as little as $75 in some regions and more than $150 in others. Regional labor rates, the cost of living and the cost to do business in your area will be reflected in your tree removal cost.

How much does it cost to cut a tree down?

When you’re ready to have a tree on your property come down, it’s time to call an arborist. The national average price range for tree-trimming costs is $270-$450. Tree removal costs can vary based on the height, diameter, location and health of the tree, and on whether you want to remove the stump. Height plays a major role in tree removal costs. Small trees, no more than 30 feet tall, are usually thinner in diameter and easier and safer for an arborist to manage. Removal of a small tree can cost anywhere from under $150 to over $450. Removal of medium-height trees, from 30 feet to 60 feet tall, could cost anywhere between $150 and $850 or more. Tall trees, typically 60 feet to 80 feet tall, may start at $500 or cost more than $1,000 to cut down. As the height and diameter increase, so does the cost.

Location is critical, too. Removing a tree in an open space is quicker and presents fewer obstacles than removing a tree that is growing flush to your house. Arborists can assess your tree and provide you with quotes based on the variables involved. For example, removing a medium-size hackberry tree that was growing too close to a home — the roots were damaging the home’s foundation — cost $1,500. This price included rope-down, house protection, tree quartering and stacking, and stump removal.

How much does it cost to cut down a massive tree?

If you have to remove a big, beautiful tree from your property, you’ll definitely need an arborist. Cutting down a massive tree without the proper tools or training can lead to major property damage or injury. A huge tree may need to be removed if it is diseased or dying and poses a safety risk, has suffered a blow from a storm and isn’t safe, or is growing into your home, your home’s foundation, your septic system, or your power lines. Removal costs for such large trees will depend on the tree’s height, diameter, and relative safety and accessibility, as well as whether you also need the felled tree and stump removed. The bare minimum for removal of a tree over 75 or 80 feet would be $1,000. This may not include tree quartering and removal or stump grinding. Stump grinding ranges on average from $2 to $4 per inch of the stump’s diameter. There is no set price as each situation is unique, so it’s always best to have an arborist give you a quote and detail exactly which services are included in the price.
