Had a center ceiling light box installed in a first floor room. Not easy to do with an existing home because of drywall cutting. Victor made the least demolition of the ceiling and walls...very important for the repatch and paint work. Also, Victor was extremely prompt in responding to my inquiring, providing a guesstimate over email and arriving promptly for the project. The only developmental area for Victor in our project was in "cleanup". The larger drywall remnants and debris were removed from the hardwood floors, however, a broom - which was used for cleanup - did not (could not) pickup the dust and finer points of drywall cutting. A vacuum was not used during cleanup. I was left with a chalky room floor to vacuum and wipe down. I believe Victor may have simply forgotten to attend to this. Overall, though, I would recommend for hire and consider for repeat hire of electrical labor.

We were beyond happy with Raul and his team. On a whim, we tried Thumbtack on a Sunday afternoon, looking for some help with drywall work, finishing and prepping for paint with the request for someone in less than a day. Raul responded immediately and was at our house the next day Monday! He was professional, focused on quality and fantastic to work with. He was so good and delivered a high quality result, we hired him to come back and paint our kitchen two days later. I now have a beautiful finished kitchen. We are considering additional work with him and will work with him again.

My deck had been painted many times over the past several years, and lots of paint was peeling off. Andre powerwashed the deck to get all of the peeling paint off and then stained it with solid stain, as I had requested. The deck looks great, and he did it for a very reasonable price.

We hired Stacy Morgan Designs to paint the entire interior of our 2300 sq ft house--literally every room. Stacy is energetic and takes her time with the customer. She gave me great color ideas for each room. She knows what a color will look like when it's done, so she helped steer me away from colors that looked good on the swatch but would be too bright on a wall. The painters were friendly and detailed. Everything was completed on time and to our satisfaction. Great job!

They did a great job with our power wash. They cleaned but didn't strip the paint--(Yay!) They were unable to do gutters as promised, and never came back as promised--so I deducted one star but didn't charge me for the gutters. Also my house didn't smell like chlorine and they didn't trample or kill my pants (double Yay!) I would call them back for powerwashing, (but not for gutters)

Oscar and Karla were very quick to respond and stayed in touch with me prior to the cleaning. They were very thorough, explained what they planned to do and what they ended up doing. Oscar also took pictures of the gutters before and after to help me see.

Worked with Taylor on our paint project, he provided help tips on what needed to be done as well as the type of paint that we should use. Robin and the foreman Elmer arrived the morning the jobs was to start on time . They check with me to make sure everything was on the quote that I had requested was included. When the job was completed they cleaned everything up. Would recommend Five Star Painting to anyone needing a painting contractor.

Mr. Watson and his team did an amazing job with our painting project. He beat all of my quotes and exceeded my very high expectations when it comes to service. He added a chair rail and did a two tone paint on the entire first floor of our home. They also stained our deck that’s over 1,000sq feet. Mr. Watson and his staff are very customer service oriented and their number one priority is to make sure you are happy with their work. He asked me and anyone else that was home if everything was to our linking daily. They cleaned up before they left everyday. When they started to work on the deck they moved all of the furniture grills, fire pit etc that was on our deck and put everything back in place when they were done! We are very satisfied with him and his team!! We would use them again in a heartbeat! Thanks Guys!

Josh was a great professional and did a fantastic job. He came in for a project and gave me a very fair estimate on the project but also went above and beyond. He assessed the whole house and provided recommendations for other areas that needed attention and was honest on areas that I could delay if necessary. He also found some water damage none of the other painters noticed and midway through the project we ended up with a bathroom leak. He worked to get someone over that day to give me an estimate and stop the leak. He then gave me a very reasonable estimate to fix where the leak damaged part of the ceiling I was not going to paint previously. He also did all my repair work in my walls and seams for a great price and really went above and beyond to give a perfect touch to my ceilings. As a landlord living out of state, going with someone I trust is critical. Josh earned my trust and helped me to see the details and gave me a cost effective way to fix the problems. He understood my budget and really worked with me. He also knew how to address the areas where a few extra dollars could buy me a few more years of the paint. He also had great suggestions for colors and worked with me on how to make the project the best. He is a perfectionist, which is a great trait in a painter, but also has a laid back easy attitude to work with and was always professional. The whole house was painted in a short period of time and I will definitely use his service in the future!

Brent went above and beyond the original project, he did more than just paint with repairs and painted parts that I didn’t expect. His quality of work is excellent and I have hired him for more small time repairs because of the result of his work. Thanks Brent appreciate it a huge relief.

After my home was broken into just days before Christmas, without hesitation, Mike was on location and worked quickly to get my home secure. He was attentive, listened to and addressed my concerns and was clear on what the very reasonable costs for repair would be. Beyond that, he was very conscientious about making it right, attentive to detail ensuring the new door was properly installed and erasing any evidence that a break-in had occurred. As the original door had been installed without proper flashing by another contractor, Mike not only replaced the damaged door, but corrected the developing wood rot and emplaced the flashing as it should have been. As I was working out of town, communication was outstanding, professional. He sent frequent photos of the entire process from tear down to final touches. Attention to detail: setting the new door ensuring it was plumb, no airgaps in the weather seal, installing the new siding (to replace what was damaged by break-in), caulking, painting the sheetrock and the external siding and clean up. Break-ins are violating and unfun. Mike really took the emotional edge off of it, getting the job done and done right at a very reasonable rate. I would certainly call upon Raleigh Property Services again in a heartbeat should the need arise.

Javier did a great job in a short amount of time. He and his team painted the entire house, removed old floors, installed tile floors, refinished wood floors and banisters, installed storm door, powerwashed exterior. He provided great guidance on choosing materials and helped me save money on several occasions. Would recommend.

We got multiple bids and chose Pro Green. They painted the exterior trim on our brick home. Included in the premium package was power washing the driveway and side walk as well as painting the mail box. Nice touch. They were on time each day, cleaned up and stacked ladders overnight and were very careful not to get paint on our composite deck. They finished the job on time and we paid the quoted rice plus a few materials for some wood that needed replacing. I highly recommend this company they are very responsive.

I am thrilled with the work done by Premium Painting of NC. Within two days of completion, I received complements and requests for additional information about Premium Painting from several neighbors. Also, they do much, much more than paint. They painted the exposed wood on my vinyl sided house, repaired a rain rotted windowsill and power washed my house, driveway, and patio. They arrived on-time as promised prepared with commercial grade equipment and supplies. They power washed my siding, exposed wood, windows, and three porches. The next day they returned again on-time and, using name brand tape and plastic, covered my window glass, scraped, sanded, primed, and painted with a high quality, oil based paint, which they provided. They were friendly but professional, quiet, and clean. They moved and then moved back the many pieces of furniture on my porches. They listened whenever I commented and answered if I had questions. Initially, I had only intended to have the power washing done. However, I was so happy with that work as well as the men's work and attitude, I decided to have the other work done too. Plus the price was right -- extemely reasonable. They exceeded my expectations, especially when repairing the windowsill. My house is 90 years old. Most of the parts cannot be found nowadays. But they replaced the sill with a 2x8 piece of lumber, which is just the same as the original. They did this without me asking. They took no shortcuts. I am certain that I will be calling upon Premium Painting to do more work in and around my house in the future as will a few of my neighbors.

Andy and his brother were excellent. They repaired my railing in the front of the house and replaced a small deck to our side entrance. They did such a great job I asked them to paint doors and shutters. Our house looks amazing compared to what it was before. I would and have recommended there work. Reasonably priced and quality work.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much do painters cost?

The national average cost for an interior painter ranges between $450 and $900. Interior painters can tackle everything from complete color makeovers in each of your rooms to touching up an accent wall to painting pieces of furniture. The square footage and complexity of the project, along with the materials needed, are the main factors that will affect cost. Other factors include whether you supply the paint yourself or want the painter to do so, whether you move the furniture and do the prep work or ask them to do it, and whether any repair work is needed on the walls. Painting the ceiling and the trim will also have an effect on cost. The type of paint you choose can also raise or lower your house painting cost. A gallon of paint may range from $20 to over $100, depending on quality and brand. Ask your painter if they charge per hour or per square foot, and how much you can save by doing prep work (moving furniture, etc.) yourself.

How much does it cost to paint the interior of a house?

Interior house painting costs are calculated on a few key factors. Nationally, interior house painting projects range from $200 to $2,500. The wide price range indicates how much square footage, paint selection and labor can affect cost. One pro uses a laser to measure each room, subtracting the size of the doors and windows, and then bases the quote on the square footage of the actual surfaces to be painted. Painters may provide you with savings if you opt to paint your entire home rather than just having one room or an accent wall painted. For example, the average house painting cost for an 8x12 room with 8-foot ceilings is roughly $200, when contractor-grade paint is used. Painting ceilings, baseboards and frames can also affect cost. Pros may charge per linear foot to smooth and paint baseboards. In one area pros might charge 50 cents per linear foot to paint baseboards, while pros in another part of the country could charge $1.50 per linear foot for the same task. Painters may charge flat rates for painting door and window frames, with one charging $20-$25 and another $60 per door. Geography and regional costs to do business play a major role in the cost of interior painting. The same painter in a rural region has less to pay in taxes, transportation, insurance and overhead than they would in a major city like New York.

How much does a painter charge per room?

The cost to paint a room will vary based on the size of the room, the type of paint you select, any ceiling or trim work needed, and any repairs needed. If no repairs or other additional work is needed, painting a room with contractor-grade paint could range from $1 to $2 per square foot, including materials. Selecting a luxury paint (some cost more than $100 per gallon) will certainly increase your house painting costs. Here are some additional examples of average house painting costs, per room:

  • 12x12 room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 12x12 room with an 8-foot ceiling: about $100
  • 14x16 master bedroom with a 9-foot ceiling: about $150
  • 14x16 master bedroom with an 8-foot ceiling: about $125
  • 16x16 living room with a 9-foot ceiling: about $175
  • 16x16 living room with a 20-foot ceiling: starting at $225
