FAQs
- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?
The pricing for subject tutoring (i.e Math, Writing, Science, etc.) is $35 an hour and SAT/ACT Prep is $40 an hour. Gas compensation is not required for clients in the Triangle area. There is also no fee for the initial consultation with the parent(s) and the student. All charges are for sessions. Payments are preferred at the end of each session. Though cash is preferred, checks will be accepted. A copy of payment will be provided to parents within 24 hours of the payment. Moreover, special offers are available to those that recommend this service to others. If you recommend this service to someone else, and said person has attended 4 sessions, you will receive 2 free sessions. This offer is valid for as many times as you recommend this service. For example, if you recommend 3 people, and each person recommended has attended 4 sessions, then you will receive 6 free sessions.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer?
Typically, before we begin regular sessions I meet with both the student and the parent(s) to get a feel for what the student wants to get out of these sessions and what the parent(s) want their child to get out of these sessions. I explain that my approach caters towards the specific learning needs of the student. Many students fall into one of the three categories of learning styles: Verbal, Visual, and Kinesthetic. However, just because these are the prominent learning styles among students does not mean that they speak for the whole. A significant number of people would be classified as having learning styles that are a mix of the aforementioned. If the parent(s) agree to have their son/daughter tutored, then the parent(s) would be given a new student form to fill out. New student forms are simply a way for me to have some background information about each of my students such as contact information, current school the student is attending, and a rough schedule for sessions. Once the new student form is filled out I will make a copy of it and give it to the parent(s) for their own records. For each session, a session report will be filed. The session report details notes that I have taken during the session, the objectives of the session, and the current level of progress. A copy of the session report will be provided to parents within 24 hours of the session.
- What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?
I graduated from the University of North Carolina at Asheville in 2014 where I received a B.S. and majored in both physics and mathematics. I am currently a part of the Physics PhD program at Auburn University. I have worked as a Physics Department and Math Lab tutor for the duration of my time at UNCA (4.5 years), where I also received AVID training for tutoring. Additionally, I private tutored students for the SAT and ACT, for all sections of each test, for 3 out of the 4.5 years I attended UNCA. I have also spent the past year providing subject tutoring in math and physics and SAT/ACT Prep at Huntington Learning Center of Raleigh.
