FAQs
- How did you get started doing this type of work?
I have worked in the garage door industry for about 8 years now. I started working for the Door Doctor when I was in college. After graduating with a B.S. in Banking and B.S. in Financing I started working in the banking world. I found out this was not the line of work I wanted to be in. I started working on my business in October of 2011 and have went from only working nights and weekends to a full time position. It has been extremely rewarding being about to work with so many different people over the past year.
- What types of customers have you worked with?
The most common type of service that we provide our customers is with broken springs, broken cables, and repair to garage door openers. Most services can be provided the same day as we carry a large amount of parts on the truck to reduce the time you are without a garage door. We know most people use their garage as the front door to the house. Midtown Doors and Services also installs need garage doors and openers for residential and commercial applications. All residential openers we install will have a solid T rail to provide the most strength and security for you. We pride ourselves on satisfying each and every customer.
- What advice would you give a customer looking to hire a provider in your area of work?
I would recommend the customer to ask questions so they are informed of what went wrong and how to prevent the problem from occurring again. When looking for repairs make sure to get an idea of the cost before the labor begins. Many companies will replace parts that are not needed (i.e.. replace all the rollers to make extra money on a simple job). When purchasing a garage door make sure that you are buying a 2'' thick door. Many companies will bid you at a 1 and 3/8'' door. This is a common technique to make more money on a job and will reduce the R-Value that you are looking for. R-Value is a measurement of how well a door is insulated. There are many factors that are involved in this number. Polyurethane insulation starts at a higher R-Value. Over time you will find a decrease as great as 30%. Another problem with the polyurethane R-Value is that this is in a climate without humidity. Polyurethane absorbs moisture which will decrease the r-value and potentially grow mold. Garage doors that are insulated with polystyrene will start at a lower r-value but it will stay constant because the material does not decompose over time and will not absorb moisture.
