Introduction: Murphy Moving, Inc. is Omaha's oldest, local moving only, privately held and family operated company in Omaha still successfully in existence. Since 1959, our phone number has never changed and continues to ring non- stop and is personally answered, even after hours and on holidays.
We have continuously been in operation without interruption since 1959 when Ed and Mary Murphy returned to Omaha from the Florida seaboard to care for Mary's aging parents. In 1968, Ed courageously left his family of four in his wife's competent and loving hands to re- enlist in the Merchant Marines at the age of 59 to supply our troops overseas. Much like his wife Mary, Duty called, and Ed answered. Mary's strong ethical, efficient, and German values allowed her to successfully raise four children, all active in the business at some level, and successfully guide the growth and highly regarded reputation of Murphy Moving for a total of 38 years. After the early death of her husband Ed in 1975 and ending shortly after the death of her only son and heir apparent, Mike Murphy, from leukemia in 1995, she chose to retire. In 1997, Mary confidently handed the legacy of integrity, efficiency, and caring for the service needs of others, known as "Murphy Moving", over to the equally capable hands of her youngest, Jeannie Murphy Matthews, where it rests today.
So how does our service stand out? One phrase- "Time-tested dedication and technique." The entire Murphy family has worked for over five decades dedicated to serving your family with the all of the resources, networking, loyal, long term employees and extended family members with customer service skills, and moving expertise- that only 57 years of experience can grant. No amount of money can buy our decades of moving know how- no fancy truck, franchise name, or sophisticated software system can match the "heart" known in the Omaha community, as simply "Murphy Moving."
In a sentence, we would say we are all thrilled and honored to play a pivotal part in the changing life circumstances that a move, whether large or small, always represents. Whether to celebrate the birth of a new child necessitating moving to a larger home or to grieve a loss with you as you move an aging parent out of their family home of 43 years and into an assisted living facility--the entire moving process ALWAYS carries an emotional tone. We are here from the first phone call to the last bed put back together.
Our entire company and all of our employees are "people persons." As owner, I love advising and talking to both new and repeat customers and helping guide them through the moving process. And even if sometimes that means guiding them to a better fit for their moving need that we can provide! I thoroughly enjoy learning about people and what their needs and concerns are. I love to know about their careers, passions, trials, and rough patches. We get to know each other on a first name basis...joking, laughing, consoling or uplifting. Our movers feel the same.
We all love the outdoors and the variety of work settings and locations in the Greater Omaha area that we get to travel around and explore. Every day offers variety, new experiences, and new, interesting people we would not have otherwise met.
Our movers particularly love the challenge of moving difficult, unique, and tricky pieces...like the 300 lb. stainless steel cadaver tables we had to negotiate up two flights of stairs for the medical students at the College at St. Mary's. We've posted pictures here in the photo gallery of that particular move. The guys used teamwork, brains, brute strength, and decades of experience working together to move 8 tables up in in less than two hours.... no injuries, damage,or complaints. All done with one day's notice from a desperate out-of-state vendor that had to take a chance on a small moving company that he had never heard of before or had a chance to meet!
