Introduction: My Skype-delivered SAT & ACT process is very strategy-based. I have written out section-specific methods, tips, short-cuts & common deceptions to watch out for. Having combed through the top private prep company sources for the best of each, I've also added some techniques confirmed effective by my > 250 past clients. I email you these bullet point teaching notes, along with key content and real test problems to point out tangible applications of the strategies. This creates the virtual experience of sitting next to each other with much greater convenience. I demonstrate Math problems on a large whiteboard that will fill most of your screen. After each test prep teaching session, I assign & provide recent real test sections for “off the clock” homework. When we reconvene, I coach you to rework your own mistakes by applying the strategies/methods. You get real time feedback as to section performance and improvement as you do more homework on each section of the test, eventually prepared to self-correct for final practice. In all my tutoring subjects (Algebra, Business, Reading Comp etc.), I have a knack for adjusting to students' different learning styles, using alternative approaches & teaching tools. I have a lot of experience writing strategic & financial corporate documents and also work as an editor (essays to books). I can tutor to a perfect score on the Writing/English sections of these tests by teaching the grammar and writing flow rules in plain English. Math multiple choice tests are different than those in school; I explain ways to back into the correct answer or substitute real #s for the variables. I also make sure you remember concepts not used since middle school and how to"translate" math language into arithmetic. Celebrating my clients' progress and achievements. Many students have credited me with helping them get into their 1st choice colleges or grad schools (Harvard, Oxford for ex.), for 5 point jumps in already good ACT scores, and for SAT scores @/above 1500. Additionally, I have significantly increased both the confidence and competence of numerous students, initially overwhelmed by the stress and twisted presentation of the material on these tests.

Test Prep Services

Kathy took the time to sit down and review our daughter's situation with taking the SAT/ACT. Once we decided on a routine schedule, the materials were provided in advance and once the online session took place, our daughter got real time assistance and feedback on the lesson assignments. Additionally Kathy worked on building self confidence by providing great easy to use exercises and methods to retain information and study skills. We have seen tremendous improvements in her confidence and practice test scores. Hoping this will continue once the real test time comes.

Test Prep Services

The sessions I had were very helpful, especially the practice problems and the special strategies for each section that we went over together. I learned a lot about how to approach SAT questions and refreshed old math concepts, both of which helped me to score 1540.

FAQs

  • What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)?

You will need fewer hours with me (spend less) than with other tutors who walk through all different questions/problems "on the clock." My students do practice sections for homework and we only rework the ones they had trouble with together. You pay by the lesson and are never under any obligation to continue. If your quoted rate is higher than my base rate of $110/hr, I will reduce your hourly rate by 10% after the 1st 4 90-minute lessons. Non-emergency cancellations made within 24-hrs will be charged a 50% cancellation fee. No shows (having been sent an appt confirmation) will be charged 100%.

  • What is your typical process for working with a new customer?

I am happy to answer any questions in a free 20-minute consultation (about ACT/SAT test prep) to help you decide if you want to work with me.

  • What education and/or training do you have that relates to your work?

I have an MBA from a top business school (Wharton). This was followed by a 20-year career that included several years of work in each of the following disciplines: communications, accounting, marketing, planning & investments. In every role, at least part of my responsibility was to "teach" both external customers & internal peers and subordinates about my company, product line or position, as well as to manage numerous project teams. Volunteering in the classroom when I stepped back from full-time work for a few years, solidified both my strengths and skills in teaching writing/reading and mathematical disciplines.
