I had Jeff move some cabinets in my kitchen. He did a great job and did exactly what I asked. He was on time, very neat, and friendly. I would definitely hire him again in the future.

Top Quality Remodeling helped us to do our kitchen remodel. This was a large project that included removing a wall and gutting the current kitchen as well as another room. Vill and his team were great to work with and very professional. They had many great suggestions which helped us to improve the overall look of the kitchen, including changing some of the cabinet design as well as adding a barn door to the laundry room. Also, if there was something we didn't like they were quick to make a suggestion for an alternative approach or make the change that we requested. We would recommend Top Quality to anybody remodeling or building a home.

We contacted Northeast Construction first based solely on the very professional email they sent. They were also the first to come look at the job, had the estimate to us the next day. Not the cheapest price but after speaking with Brandon I was sold on their experience. Three guys came out to our house, two worked the Sheetrock and one on the cabinet. Everything was covered and throughly cleaned over the couple days that they were there. The work was great, cabinet is perfect, couldn't ask for any thing better or different. Brandon came out to look everything over once the job was done.

John did finish carpentry in my new basement den. There were a couple access panels, a staircase and baseboard and trim. I really like how he did the hidden access panels. They slide out and look very neat. He also fabricated cabinet doors for the storage areas. He is very professional and did the work on budget and within a very reasonable time frame. Definitely hire John for your next project!

I need to fix my oven door. The first company I called charged me a Huge service charge and then told me that the trim is discontinued and they cannot fix it. I found Joe on a local town FB board and he came by and fixed that oven door. So so grateful. He also installed a cook top, fixed a loose kitchen cabinet and a closet door. Highly recommend Dream Conceptions

They were great! They installed new kitchen and dining room windows, as well as installed new cabinets and put in a vent for over the range microwave. Hooked up our dishwasher/faucet once new sink was installed with the granite countertop. Finished almost all of the project within a week, only had to wait on a special order window which was not his fault it took awhile for that to come in. I recommend to anyone who is looking to get great work done at a reasonable price.

Charlie is a finish carpenter as well as a General Contractor with architectural design talent. Over the past 2 years, he has completely renovated a large gutted loft condo and our 3500 sq ft home in West Medford. People cannot say enough about the wonderful job that he and his small crew accomplished. Neither can we, because we know that some of the situations both homes presented were extremely difficult. He converted a high-end Poggenpohl kitchen to fit the space in our condo, & the whole condo is done in granite and marble, including floors, and full of subtle amenities. And the upgrades he made to our Medford house caused it to sell at a great price right away. He can do anything with wood - did I say that before?? The cherry medicine and bathrrom cabinets & Jacuzzi surround are just gorgeous, and once done, we had to be pried from our house. And on top of that, he is a first class guy - you'll love him, as we did.

I am very happy with my experience working with Steven from SPB Building Services. He has a level of professionalism that far exceeds that of any contractor I have ever worked with before. He is meticulous in all aspects of his business from estimate to execution and I found his pricing to be fair and transparent. He did a fantastic job on our kitchen cabinet doors and I am really happy with how they look and the timeline in which the work was completed. I highly recommend SPB Building Services and will continue to work with them in the future.

Dan installed a butcher block countertop on some newly installed cabinets. We'd ordered the butcher block custom-made and then realized upon receipt that the company didn't do installs. Dan was willing to come out to do this small job for a fair price. Dan was friendly and knowledgeable and when we realized that the cabinets had settled improperly - leaving a noticeable gap between the counter and two cabinets - he walked through my options, including figuring out whether he could stick around and re-install the cabinets for me. We ended up choosing to just install some filler on our own, but Dan seemed to actually care that he walked through how to do it so it would look good in the end. One of the problems with this review is that I can't guarantee quality of work until the butcher block has expanded/contracted over multiple seasons. I had to leave before the end of the install, but Dan was willing to take a call from me and walk through the ways he'd relieved the butcher block to account for minimal expansion of the wood. He also gave a "I stand behind my work" spiel and said I could always call in the future if the countertop buckles and he'd come and fix it. He spoke frequently about how his real passion is custom cabinetry and kitchen additions. Obviously, I can't speak to his work on cabinetry, but if you want an attentive, easy-to-deal with contractor for a future kitchen job I feel like Dan is a good bet.

We wanted under stair storage. Not an easy area to fill, utilizing all the space. Mike came out to look at the area, had some great ideas, and had custom storage built and installed in less time than quoted. It came out even better than imagined! Mike’s attention to detail is commendable. He and his crew were a pleasure to work with.

I hired Jeff to install a new kitchen in a house we recently purchased. Not only did he perform his part installing the cabinets and backsplash perfectly but he also helped keep the other components of the remodel (electrical, plumbing etc) on schedule. Jeff also removed a wall creating an open concept kitchen and deftly pieced in a wood floor where the wall previously existed. If you know anything about original hardwood floors you already know how difficult that was. All in all I cannot say enough good things about Jeff's work and the self imposed responsibility he feels for each of his clients. If you want someone who takes the job as seriously as you do you need to hire Jeff Arlit.

We had a smaller project where we needed to add on to existing cabinets/counters. We couldn't match the existing granite that was in place but settled on a butcher block top. Ken came up with a great design. The cabinets and butcher block top came out looking great. It was a long process because we were not really in a rush and told Ken that (we were the ones taking our time). So we can't speak to if you needed work done quickly how fast Ken would be able to get to it. There were some minor miscommunications around timing but they were quickly resolved. Ken is professional and it's clear he has been doing great work for a long time. Would definitely recommend.

After working with Jarret to redo my kitchen, I couldn't imagine a better fit for the job. Jarret was a combination of fair and talented. He offered recommendations based on my taste and budget and I am delighted with how the end result looked. He also built me an epoxy table which is is beyond words.

Owain Harris was super easy to work with: came twice to my house, communicated creatively several times about options and kept going patiently until the design for a cherry media center was right. He was always on time, never seemed to be in a rush, and his craftpersonship is just great. The media center is lovely, and his price seemed quite reasonable. He delivered the center when he said he would, and took another, simpler, project right away. I'll definitely call him for my next furniture making need.

Excellent work done on a custom cabinet job for us! A lot of contractors wouldn't even have taken the job but 13 Stars Design took the challenge and did an amazing job! The owner (Joel) is extremely nice and very easy to work with. We'll be going back if we have any more cabinet needs.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

      Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

      How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
