Gilbert did a fantastic job. He listened to what I needed done, helped me out with information, came in when he said he would and did a beautiful job at much less than one of the big national carpet installers would. I chose to buy the carpet myself and he told me exactly what and how much to get, and even dealt with a misunderstanding at Lowe's in a no-drama, efficient way. He was quick, efficient and did quality work. Absolutely A-plus.

Karl and his assistants were not only extremely professional, they were pleasant to talk to, neat and clean, informative, made suggestions that saved me money, ontime, and even repaired things other idiots that i had hired screwed up. i would hire him back in a heartbeat and i highly recommend this company for ALL of your repair, construction, and painting needs. you will NOT be disappointed. i hired them not only to paint, but to repair destroyed concrete steps, a path, replace a window and some siding. he replaced all rotted trim and missing shakes for nothing and when he saw that the "professionally built deck" was TOTALLY screwed up he made suggestions and offered to fix that screw up as well. i will hire him to place carpet when i'm at that point.

I hired Mike to install carpet in a home theater in a very high end home. He did an excellent job. There were several changes made to the install date, and Mike was very accommodating with our changes. We brought the carpet in from another state, and Mike coordinated with the warehouse, picked up the carpet, ordered the pad and brought it all to our house for the install. He worked around several trades and dealt with several inspections going on at the same time. It was not an easy install, and he was extremely professional and efficient. I would hire him again in a heartbeat.

We recently had our master bath floor tiled, vanity lights and mirror installed in both the master bath and secondary bath as well many sheetrock repairs throughout our house. The job has lasted about 2 weeks and Ted has done an excellent job. The tile is beautiful and the other workmanship very good. We used Ted in the past to tile our basement floor and re-work some doorways in our house and he did a superb job. He is one of the few contractors that we have hired that we have not had to call back to fix the work he did. He is diligent, arrives in a timely manner and cleans up after himself perfectly. He is also trustworthy and I have no concerns about allowing him in my home when I can't be here.

Re-grouted the master bathroom floor, replaced a 24sq' section of hardwood floor with tile, and replaced about 100sq' of carpet with tile. The master bath needed to be completely re-grouted, without damaging the tiles. Of the 4 pros, Aleks was the only one to actually investigate why the grout was cracking in a house that was only 1.5y old (the floor flexed too much and there were gaps under the tile). He gave the option of just re-grouting or using a more expensive epoxy-based "grout", so that it would not crack, that would also get into the gaps beneath the tile to prevent them from cracking. We went with the epoxy and it looks great. The larger tile job required the removal of carpet and extending a smaller tiled to fill what had been the carpeted area, which required matching existing tile and grout lines. Aleks did a great job of managing the layout to avoid having unattractive lines and odd sized tile runs. The smallest job was the most complicated - had to remove hardwood flooring, lay in new tile to match the height of the existing wood floor, and trim out the tile with new hardwood - he matched it perfectly. Again, a great job of making it all look like it had always been that way, rather than the afterthought it actually was. Aleks was always punctual, professional, and neat. The house was never messy when he wrapped up for the day and he did a great job of managing the dust. He was on-budget, on-time, and very easy to work with. I completely satisfied with the final product, the price, and the process.

I just had a small project replacing carpets in two bedrooms. From the get go Joe Hunter was excellent in all respects. Even though the project was relatively small he took time to help me select the right carpet and also bought it for me. His quote was very reasonable and the quality of work was perfect. He went out of his way to accommodate my request for installing the carpets before my deadline. I would always recommend Joe to my friends and if I ever need a flooring job in the future I won't go anywhere else.

I can say enough good things about this company. I researched a lot of companies in my area and Costa Leite sounded like the type of company I would like to do business with. Ivan is the owner and he is very polite and helpful in selecting the type of flooring we were looking for. We had both carpeting and laminate hard wood flooring installed. Ivan was very responsive in keeping in touch with us to let us know when the flooring material was available for installation. We had the carpets install in about two weeks and they did a great job on the install. We were finishing an addition to our house and I told Ivan that there was a little delay in construction and could he hold our hard wood flooring for about one month. He said no problem and just give him a 3 day advance notice when we were ready to install the floor. After construction, I called Ivan and made an appointment for the laminate flooring to be installed. The installer did a fantastic job on the floor, being very careful in cutting our door casings so that they meet the new floor perfect. All the hardwood floor transitions look great, you can tell the installer takes pride in his workmanship. The price of both floors is very reasonable, and Ivan uses quality materials. This is the type of business that you can refer friends to and feel good about it.

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is the cheapest carpet?

If you’re looking to reduce carpet installation costs, there are several ways to save. Start by considering your carpeting needs. Manufactured materials such as polyester and nylon will be cheaper than natural fibers such as wool. From big box retailers, starting prices for olefin-based carpet are approximately 50 cents per square foot — making the cost under $5 per square yard. Indoor carpets made with olefin fibers are typically the least expensive on the market. Keep in mind that olefin fibers are not as soft on bare feet as other fibers, so are often used in areas like basements, playrooms or indoor patios. Nylon and polyester are good options to reduce carpet installation costs while still creating a cozy feel. The face weight, fiber construction and density of a carpet all affect the cost per square foot. The cheapest nylon or polyester carpets can start at just under $2 per square foot, making them about $18 per square yard. Lower-cost carpet tends to wear out more quickly and show stains more easily, so avoid light colors and vacuum regularly to keep the fibers clear of dirt that might age it too quickly.

How much does it cost to install carpet?

If you’re ready to bring new life into your house with a makeover from the ground up, you’re ready to learn more about carpet installation costs. Installation costs vary greatly, depending on a number of factors such as the type of carpet, the number of square yards, any necessary repair work, the number of stairs you have, and where you live. Due to these variables, the national average cost of carpet installation ranges between $200 and $4,500.

To start planning for your new carpet, measure roughly how many square yards of carpet you’ll need. Research the main carpet styles and materials you like to get a feel for what they cost. Nylon carpets are typically the least expensive, and wool is one of the higher-end carpets. Prices per square foot might range from under $2 to over $10, depending on materials. Count the number of stairs you want carpeted; each one might average between $3 and $10 (or more for box steps). Carpet removal can be an added cost as well, averaging $1-$4 per square yard, depending on the company and regional disposal costs.

How much does it cost to carpet a bedroom?

If you’re building a new home, remodeling, or ready for new carpet in your bedroom, you’ll want to know carpet installation costs. Here are the factors that affect the cost of your new bedroom carpet:

    • Installation cost per square yard: From under $2 to over $6. Carpet companies have a labor cost per square foot for installing your new carpet. Depending on where you live in the country, that rate can vary greatly. This rate does not include the cost of the carpet.
    • Type of carpet: from $1 per square foot to $20 or more per square foot. The fibers that make up your carpet will have a direct effect on cost. As an example, specialty wool carpets may start at about $10 per square foot, while a manufactured fiber like nylon may be about $2 per square foot.
    • Removal of old carpet: from $1 to $4 per square yard. Old carpet is labor-intensive to remove and also costs money to dispose of or recycle. The cost to remove carpet will depend on how much carpet you need removed and whether your installation pros offer a discounted rate for installing your new carpet at the same time.
    • Subfloor repair: from $40 to $70 per hour (plus materials cost). If the flooring underneath your old carpet is damaged, it must be repaired before the new carpet is installed. Many carpet pros can offer this service, or you can hire a handyman to handle the job.
    • Type of carpet pad: $1 per square yard and up, depending on the thickness. The cost to install carpet pad is typically included with the labor cost per yard of installing the carpet itself.

How much does it cost to install carpet on stairs?

The number of stairs you want carpeted in your home will directly affect your carpet installation cost. Putting carpet on stairs generally increases the labor time and requires a higher degree of detail than laying carpet flat. Where you live in the country also plays a role in your carpet installation cost. Carpet installation companies in smaller towns with a lower cost of living and a lower cost to do business (insurance, company vehicles, employee labor, etc.) can usually offer their customers lower rates than companies in large cities where the cost of living and the cost to do business are higher. Carpet pros will often quote you a flat rate per stair once they do a site visit to provide an estimate. They’ll take into account the size of each stair you want carpeted (including both the step and the riser), and what type of stair it is. For example, the cost might range between $3 and $10 per stair for labor only. On the higher end of the spectrum, box stairs or staircase stairs with spindles that must be worked around might cost between $15 and $25 per stair.
