Let me start by saying that I wish I could give Wayne 10 stars, but since I only have the option of 5, that will have to do. Our house is over 100 years old and we are preparing to paint the exterior again. Needless to say, we had quite a "honey do" list of odd repairs that needed attention. Clapboards that were broken or rotting, the railings on the front porch were falling apart, back stairs pulling away from the house, decorative trim that was rotting, brick foundation in need of repointing, new exhaust vents, and finally new doors. Wayne responded to my initial request in record time and stopped by later that day to give me an estimate. Of all the contractors interviewed, he was the only one that completely outlined the work needed with a full materials list and cost breakdown. Others were quite vague and wanted to repair or replace more than was necessary, turning the job into something larger than it really was. That is why I decided to hire Wayne, his straightforward honesty and winning personality sealed the deal. Wayne and his crew started the job immediately and completed it in good time. They cleaned up the yard after and disposed of all the waste materials as well. Earlier I mentioned the decorative trim, he had this ingenious product that was able to halt the rot and preserve as much of the original wood as possible because there would be no way to replicate the trim without spending a ton. This technique was also used on my kitchen bay window, which ended up saving me a fair amount of money in that area. Wayne also went out of his way to find a great deal for my porch door, I described what I wanted and he took care of the rest. Wayne also offered to come back and replace any clapboard that was questionable once the painter gets started. The other area where he excelled was the masonry. I actually contemplated doing the job myself, I'm so happy that I came to my senses and left that up to Wayne. He truly went above and beyond expectations. The brick foundation including the cement pad really needed help. Wayne fixed the grout as well as re-cemented the gap between the foundation and the pad, now when it rains really hard or when snow melts, the basement won't flood. Wayne had really good instincts and advice about tackling the different elements of our project. He approached the job as if he was the homeowner with a budget wanting to spend money wisely. I'm telling you, I can't say enough good things about Wayne and his crew at L & K Construction. I will definitely be using them again in the future.
Came by right away to help us assemble our furniture. Really did a great job assembling it!
Sam came and finished assembling furniture I got stuck doing. He was great, fixed what I screwed up and then completed another 4 pieces flawlessly. I would use Sam again in a heartbeat and am recommending him to my friends...so worth it!
John is thorough, artistic, with a creative mind with excellent carpentry skills. Communicates throughly and easy to work with. Honest and he and all of his help were polite, respective of the cleanliness in your home. You will be very happy with his work
I had Godek Home Improvement make custom cuts to a new hickory counter top. Dennis did a fantastic job and was fast in prepping the counter top for installation. Dennis was a pleasure to work with and returns calls promptly. I would definitely hire Godek Home Improvement in future projects.
Russell was on time and keep his cool and did a great job on a hot summer day. His finish work on the outside steps looks great, I would not hesitate to recommend him to anyone I know who needs carpentry services.
V&C Painting and Construction INC helped install a costume chain linked gate for me and repair my chain linked fence. Joao came with an assistant and they were both a pleasure to work with. He was very professional, responsive, skilled, and was a pleasure to work with. He showed his knowledge of how to custom make a fence right and I appreciated his attention to detail in making sure that the fence was professionally built and also made my house looked great. They cleaned up all of their work and left my yard spotless. I will definitely hire him again for other projects around my house. Thank you!
Eric designed/built a custom kitchen island that is THE showpiece of our home. He is professional and came in on budget and on time.
John did finish carpentry in my new basement den. There were a couple access panels, a staircase and baseboard and trim. I really like how he did the hidden access panels. They slide out and look very neat. He also fabricated cabinet doors for the storage areas. He is very professional and did the work on budget and within a very reasonable time frame. Definitely hire John for your next project!
Igor was very responsible and does everything possible to please. The work looks great. He built a custom linen closet and completed all the finish work in my bathroom. Great job! I plan on using him for other projects in my home.
Chris and his team did a fantastic job on some work that we needed done for a nursery. He also did some custom railings for us that came out fantastic. He was extremely responsive and kept me very well informed on the progress of the project! I look forward to working with him again in the future!
You know it's crazy that when you read reviews and all the ratings were Five Stars then you read a review that seems to me like a vindictive person. To me it's like "Wow" I didn't have any issues with JDQ. I do realize that there are some control freaks out there that once you finally put a stop to all the belittling and complaining they have to some way shape or form try to destroy a good hard worker reputation. When I was calling around for a professional handyman and builder I was so out of my realm. I spoke with many different businesses, most left me feeling like I didn't know what I was talking about and crazy for some projects I wanted complete. I even had them come to my home and what a mistake that was. Stone-age coming back in full force! I was at my dentist and there was a JDQ business card, first thing I saw that made me comfortable was that Mr. Quintal is a veteran, then I called him and what a pleasure! Of course after the last companies I spoke to I was gun shy to ask for what I want completed. Mr. Quintal suggested that he should come to my home and have me walk him through all the projects I would like to have completed. When he pulled in my driveway, about 15 minutes early, he had A tape measure, pencils and crazy builder paper. He walked me through all the steps that he would have to do to complete my projects, never leaving anything out. He didn't make me feel like I was a moron and he was very respectful. When we walk through some of the steps for the project the suggestions that he had were brilliant! I would have never of thought of it, and deftly didn't see it on Pinterest. I felt so comfortable with JDQ that once we agreed on which product to start first I let Mr. Quintal have a free-for-all to add any ideas that he seemed to fit. Before any adjustments were needed he would run it by me first and try to find the best bargain for the supplies. He is definitely the best woodworker/builder besides my father and that setting the bar pretty high! So thank you Mr. Quintal for fitting me in while you were working with that crazy lady, your full calendar and making my project dreams come true and even better that I first imagined. Now when I have company over to my house I get so many compliments on the work completed it makes me gitty and want more completed. I genuinely feel that JDQ is worth every cent I paid him. Everybody out there before you call anybody else call Mr. Quintal and I can guarantee you will not be disappointed. So thank you JDQ for all your hard work and sweat poured into my home. Your forever future customer sincerely, PIC! Happy Veteran's Day!
Dan installed a butcher block countertop on some newly installed cabinets. We'd ordered the butcher block custom-made and then realized upon receipt that the company didn't do installs. Dan was willing to come out to do this small job for a fair price. Dan was friendly and knowledgeable and when we realized that the cabinets had settled improperly - leaving a noticeable gap between the counter and two cabinets - he walked through my options, including figuring out whether he could stick around and re-install the cabinets for me. We ended up choosing to just install some filler on our own, but Dan seemed to actually care that he walked through how to do it so it would look good in the end. One of the problems with this review is that I can't guarantee quality of work until the butcher block has expanded/contracted over multiple seasons. I had to leave before the end of the install, but Dan was willing to take a call from me and walk through the ways he'd relieved the butcher block to account for minimal expansion of the wood. He also gave a "I stand behind my work" spiel and said I could always call in the future if the countertop buckles and he'd come and fix it. He spoke frequently about how his real passion is custom cabinetry and kitchen additions. Obviously, I can't speak to his work on cabinetry, but if you want an attentive, easy-to-deal with contractor for a future kitchen job I feel like Dan is a good bet.
These guys are top notch!! My father is a contractor for over 3 decades and can usually find something wrong with old school craftsmanship... he didn't have a bad word to say about our piece. He said he was incredibly impressed with the quality of our custom wall unit.
Rich has done several jobs for me, and he always pays attention to the smallest details and delivers high-quality work, just as you'd expect from a master craftsman.
As the owner of Carriagetown Kitchens, it is important to me to have contractors who value attention to detail and craftsmanship as well as customer service, working on my projects. Roland is all of these things. I found him extremely easy to work with and a good communicator. He is patient and a respectable person to have working with you on any project! I would highly recommend him and am eager to work on our next project together! Emilie Seuffert/Owner/Designer Carriagetown Kitchens
