Excellent experience. Furniture that was moved was well wrapped for protection. Tom and his team arrived on schedule, worked quickly and professionally. Highly recommend for smaller moves, truck rental on our own would have been about the same price.

I hired Jay and his team to plow my driveway. After the first storm, I signed a contract for the whole winter - they did a fantastic job! They even shoveled the walkway, and were courteous enough to come to the door to ask if I wanted to move my car so they could get the whole driveway. Definitely recommend First-Rate Moving!

We had an excellent experience with New Frontiers moving. We called them Saturday evening to arrange moving a 6 piece mahogany bedroom set Alex was promp in replying and was able to move the set the next morning. The movers arrived ten minutes early and delivered on all the services we asked for- boxed truck, moving blankets, and carefully wrapped all pieces. The two movers did an outstanding job moving the furniture and the price was excellent. We highly recommend.

Overall they did a great job! Fast, efficient and friendly. They did a good job wrapping and padding our furniture and went the extra mile to strategically pack all of our belongings into the moving truck as we were making a local move They accidentally dropped a box of liquor and a filing cabinet and reimbursed us without hassle. I would recommend Born to move without reservation.

Jose and Ed did a phenomenal job with our move. They showed up right at the beginning of the 8-10am window I requested. They worked vigorously in bitterly cold weather, loading up the truck without even taking a break. They drank the coffee I provided for them as they worked. The plan was for them to follow us up to the new place, but since we weren't quite ready I told them to go on ahead and we would meet them at the destination. I passed them on the highway when they had a good 15 minute head-start. When I arrived at the new apartment, I expected I would have to wait awhile before they showed up. Nope! Before I could even put the car in park Jose and Ed pulled right up behind us. They got to work immediately. It took them about two and half hours or less to unload everything and drudge it up three flights of narrow stairs. They did an amazing job and everything arrived in excellent condition. The office did quote a price that was on the low side; $356 for a 4 hour move. It ended up being double that amount in time an cost, but I was not surprised because I did have a lot of stuff. Bottom line is Real Deal Van Lines is a great value. I was quoted between $800 to over $1,100 for this move by other moving companies. I would definitely recommend them and I hope to use them in the future when it is time to move again.

We hired Eric to move us out of Quincy to South Boston. Both apartments were in homes built in the early 1900's so anyone from Boston would know staircases are very narrow which makes moving very difficult. Other movers were hired by a roommate and Eric assisted them in moving a truck load of boxes and furniture some of which were quite large to a third floor apartment. Eric charges 1/2 of what the other movers charged and when they doubted furniture would make it up the staircase he went for it and made it work ! Limited closet space in old homes made it necessary for an armoire for my clothes. I would highly recommend Eric and wouldn't hesitate to hire him again. We need some work done on our home and Eric is coming by to give us a quote and I'm confident the outcome will be just as good, and he is very pleasant to work with as well.

Me and my family were moving from Watertown to Watertown, and we have a two floor, three bedroom house with a basement that was full of the loose stuff. The same day I talked to the salesman they came with an onsite estimate and quoted me a price with I was satisfied with. So I booked them for the following week. They showed up with an experienced crew of four, and handled my move in a fast manner. I am very satisfied with there service.

Moving into our THIRD FLOOR apartment was so incredibly smooth (and quick) with the moving help from Top Speed. Definitely highly recommend them for any move. Our movers, Michael and Juan, were polite, professional, and had a great energy on moving day. Prices were budget-friendly and completely worth it.

The two guys (one being the owner, Jack) did a great job moving my one bedroom sized apartment contents. They are friendly and efficient workers with great attitudes. The old second floor place I was leaving was a challenge to navigate out of. They did it well. The cost of the move was half of what one of their competitors had quoted (a company whom I had used a couple of times in the past.) The 2 other quotes I had considered were the same as J and J. I simply could not afford the way more expensive movers. I am happy with my experience with J and J. There are a few differences in style that may account a bit for the price difference. The other movers had a team of 3 guys instead of 2. They did a thorough inventory and inspection of all items prior and after the move with a detailed checklist. They also used shrink wrap from a roll to secure drawers and doors on furniture pieces. J and J used large elastic bands instead. The pricier company put the mattress and box spring in protective bags. J and J did not. If a person has very fine furniture and is very meticulous they may want to pick the higher priced competitor. For myself I am a satisfied customer with Jack and his assistant. My belongings are mostly old, eclectic and close to distressed looking! I personally choose to move my more fragile items on my own no matter which company I have chosen. J and J fit my needs and current budget. I would gladly use them for a future move.

We had a great experience with John and John. They were able to perfectly fit our one-bedroom apartment into a small moving truck with no problems whatsoever. They didn't bat an eye when it started to torrentially downpour about 15 minutes into the job - these guys were serious troopers. On time and prompt communicators leading up to moving day. Would absolutely recommend.

I wanted to share the awesome experience I had with Poseidon Moving on Wednesday. Chris, Elly, Amir, and Vlad moved us from Medford, MA to Kingston, RI. They were ruthlessly efficient (carrying three boxes at a time kind of efficient), respectful of our homes and our belongings, and nice people. On top of that, they were very fair with pricing, which I really appreciated. I saw the 120 or so five star reviews Poseidon had on Yelp and didn’t really believe it (how can movers be that good?), but now I get it. Thank you for making a stressful experience easy for us.

My best moving experience yet. Three men carefully wrapped my furniture in moving blankets and then shrink wrapped it! They were very focused and strong. They are familiar with assembly and disassembly of furniture, as they had to take apart my sleeper sofa to get it out, along with my glass dining table. They treated my furniture as if it was their own.

Boston Moving Company is great! I am doing renovation in my living room, and I had a small in-house moving project that normally would take 1-2 hours. I wanted to move all the furniture from the living room into my bedrooms, but it turned out that my couches wouldn't go through the bedrooms doors. Anton and his workers took them into their storage that same day, which was very convenient. I would recommend Boston Moving Company to my friends.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
