We had a kitchen and bathrooms cabinet refinishing project. Nilso explained all the different options available to bring back the cabinets to a new state. Nilso and his crew were very professional in their setup, handling cabinets, cleanup and finished the job in 2 days. We love our kitchen now!

I need to fix my oven door. The first company I called charged me a Huge service charge and then told me that the trim is discontinued and they cannot fix it. I found Joe on a local town FB board and he came by and fixed that oven door. So so grateful. He also installed a cook top, fixed a loose kitchen cabinet and a closet door. Highly recommend Dream Conceptions

Junk removal on Jan 9th. Agnaldo promptly answered my call. His price was slightly higher. When he went to the disposal yard , they charged him way more than I paid him! He was very polite and showed me the copy of the bill. I sure reimbursed him! My clutter is gone! Then I found out he sure is very handy. Installed and fixed all (3 level) smoke detectors! Changed my bulbs that were out of my reach, fixed a cabinet... We are considering hiring his crew to paint the entire inside. Waiting for other quotes to arrive! Very fast worker. I had to send away another guy yesterday. He was very slow ... not focused at all! Hope his price will be good enough for me to hire him. I got a lot done, that too very quickly:)) I am so glad I found him. He sure saved me money by being fast.

Igor has GREAT customer service skills! He is knowledgeable and patient and makes sure that you understand and are in agreement about the work/ job. Igor will go to Lowe's Home Depot with you to make sure the materials for the job are exactly what you want; I've never worked with anyone that is willing to do that. Igor re-furbished our staircase and built a built-in cabinet into our dining room closet; both are exceptional work! I would gladly hire and work with him again; HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

The services that I hired Classia Home Improvement Services for was to assist me with refinishing my basement and putting all my ideas into greatly excited plan. I would highly recommend Classia to anyone I know because of the one on one attention that I received from the start of my project to the beatiful finished end of my basement remodeling project. I think that Anthony paid great attention to the details in every aspect of my project and at the end, I saved a lot of money. Due to all the options he took his time to explain to me. Thank you Classia Home Improvement Services/Anthony for the new finished basement that just by looking at, i can tell they did with pride for their craft. Timothy Michaels

Dan installed a butcher block countertop on some newly installed cabinets. We'd ordered the butcher block custom-made and then realized upon receipt that the company didn't do installs. Dan was willing to come out to do this small job for a fair price. Dan was friendly and knowledgeable and when we realized that the cabinets had settled improperly - leaving a noticeable gap between the counter and two cabinets - he walked through my options, including figuring out whether he could stick around and re-install the cabinets for me. We ended up choosing to just install some filler on our own, but Dan seemed to actually care that he walked through how to do it so it would look good in the end. One of the problems with this review is that I can't guarantee quality of work until the butcher block has expanded/contracted over multiple seasons. I had to leave before the end of the install, but Dan was willing to take a call from me and walk through the ways he'd relieved the butcher block to account for minimal expansion of the wood. He also gave a "I stand behind my work" spiel and said I could always call in the future if the countertop buckles and he'd come and fix it. He spoke frequently about how his real passion is custom cabinetry and kitchen additions. Obviously, I can't speak to his work on cabinetry, but if you want an attentive, easy-to-deal with contractor for a future kitchen job I feel like Dan is a good bet.

Tanya is the consummate professional & so very talented. Not only did she find & beautifully refinish the perfect vanity & mirror for my bedroom, but she expertly upholstered & tufted a huge king headboard. In addition, Tanya refinished two nightstands, a standing mirror, & bureau that I had purchased. Tanya goes above and beyond to make sure you are happy & I highly recommend her services.

We had a smaller project where we needed to add on to existing cabinets/counters. We couldn't match the existing granite that was in place but settled on a butcher block top. Ken came up with a great design. The cabinets and butcher block top came out looking great. It was a long process because we were not really in a rush and told Ken that (we were the ones taking our time). So we can't speak to if you needed work done quickly how fast Ken would be able to get to it. There were some minor miscommunications around timing but they were quickly resolved. Ken is professional and it's clear he has been doing great work for a long time. Would definitely recommend.

Excellent work done on a custom cabinet job for us! A lot of contractors wouldn't even have taken the job but 13 Stars Design took the challenge and did an amazing job! The owner (Joel) is extremely nice and very easy to work with. We'll be going back if we have any more cabinet needs.

From start to finish, the job was carefully undertaken without rushing thru the job. Attention to detail was most impressive. The old kitchen cabinets were removed, the new ones put into place and the finish work being the trim looked fantastic! And overall cost was less than I expected. Excellent all around. Very Happy.

      Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How do you refinish kitchen cabinets?

If you’re ready for a new look and feel in your kitchen but don’t want to replace the cabinet layout or your cabinet doors, refinishing your existing kitchen cabinets is a great option. To be a good candidate for cabinet refinishing, your cabinet boxes and doors need to be in good condition. Cabinet refinishing includes taking down your doors, sanding or stripping the surface, preparing the doors with primer as needed, refinishing them with as many coats of stain or paint are necessary, then re-hanging them in their original locations. If you’re not in love with your kitchen cabinet layout, talk to a designer or contractor about creating an alternative. Refinishing simply means adding new shine to the existing setup, so if you’re dying to have a pull-out pantry or maximize wall space by going flush to the ceiling, you may want a different approach. Functional and stylish ready-to-assemble (RTA) cabinets can be similar in cost to refacing your existing cabinets, so keep the budget-friendly RTA option in mind when making decisions.

      How do you resurface cabinets?

Resurfacing kitchen cabinets means that you retain your original cabinet boxes and existing cabinet layout and simply remove and replace the front layer of your cabinet doors. Cabinet resurfacing can also entail replacing damaged cabinet doors, keeping those that are in good shape, and installing a new surface on all of them. Cabinet resurfacing may also refer to a decision to completely change out cabinet doors because they are damaged or their style is out of date, but keeping the existing cabinet boxes and layout.

If you’re handy and have all the proper tools, cabinet resurfacing can be a DIY project, especially if you’re simply repainting. However, if you’re not comfortable removing and replacing your cabinet doors, doing precision measurements and cutting, or working with sanders and power tools, then this may be a project better left to the pros. You or your handyman or cabinet installation specialist will remove all cabinet door and drawer fronts and all hardware, then prepare the surfaces for a new layer. The pros should also update the veneer or laminate the frames to match. Once the new laminate, veneer or surface has been applied and new hardware installed, your cabinet doors and drawers are hung once more in their original locations. The national average cost for refacing cabinets is $5,000.

      Can you resurface laminate cabinets?

Resurfacing laminate cabinets is an affordable and relatively easy way to give an outdated kitchen a fresh new look. If your existing cabinets are in good shape and you like your current cabinet layout, putting a fresh face on your kitchen could mean simply painting over the current laminate or putting a new laminate surface on the doors and drawers. Cabinet resurfacing may be possible for the capable DIY homeowner, but if you don’t have the proper tools or the know-how, it’s wise to call a handyman or a cabinet installation specialist to ensure you have a professional-looking outcome. To make sure your kitchen is right for cabinet resurfacing (as opposed to completely replacing your cabinets), ask yourself:

      • Do I like the layout of my current cabinets?
      • Are the cabinet boxes structurally sound?
      • Are the floor and framing in good condition to keep cabinets supported over time?
      • Are the cabinets free of water or wood damage?

How much does it cost to refinish kitchen cabinets?

Cabinet refinishing revives dull or dinged-up doors and drawers. The cost of cabinet refinishing will vary based on factors such as the number of linear feet of cabinetry you have, the amount of nicks and scratches that need repair, the level of detail on your cabinets, and more. The pros typically will remove the cabinet doors and then sand or strip them down to create a beautifully smooth new surface. After prepping the surface with primer as needed, the pros may then repaint or stain the doors to give them a new lease on life. Cabinets with intricate detail or extensive surface damage will likely cost more to refinish, as they will take more time and effort. Keep in mind that you should only elect to do cabinet refinishing if the cabinet boxes are structurally sound and you plan to keep your current kitchen layout for a number of years. The investment will be wasted if the cabinet boxes are in disrepair and will need replacement soon, or if you’re planning a remodel in two years. The national average price range for cabinet refinishing is between $1,500 and $6,000.
