We hired The DJ's Mic, for a 40th birthday. Decided to go with the full package deal. Lights, sound, a photographer, and Photobooth. This was our first photobooth experience, and I must say the kids had loads if fun. The music was a nice blend of anything that you would typically find on the radio, with some older stuff thrown in for old timers like myself. I do want to apologize to "Mike" our DJ. The kids would not leave him alone. However he was very patient with them and played all of there songs. Over all I would recommend. We paid $2400 for a DJ, Photography, A photobooth, and the DJ. A great price!

My company and I have had the pleasure of working with David on two events. Both times he exceeded our expectations; this, based off of our experience with previous photographers. David's level of professionalism is reflected through his presence when shooting an event, and in the final product. With this in mind, David Bruno is a fantastic event photographer. He delivers magazine-ready images, that in our case, wind up making it to print. And, ultimately, he has helped us create a portfolio of beautiful, head-on + candid images, that showcase everything our company is made of. For this, we are infinitely grateful.

I had just had our baby girl when I reached out to Jim to have him do her newborn photos, as well as update our family photos to include our newest addition. It was December and as busy as everyone was with the holidays, Jim responded quickly to my inquiry and up until our session with the utmost attention. His assessment of what I saw as my vision was thorough and on point in his delivery. He arrived on time, and most importantly did not rush the session. I have three year old twins (and a dog) and he was extremely patient with them, and worked with their attention spans well. My husband and I are impressed and cannot say enough about the quality of the photos. I also love the idea of paying for the digital images and being able to do what I want with them, and he didn't pressure us to buy frames and print packages like the chain photography stores we have been to in the past. Jim is a true artist and a pleasure to work with! We have found our family photographer for here on out, and are already planning to have him photograph the Christening.

With Chuck Nacke, you will experience a true professional from your first contact through the completion of your photos. Most importantly, you will find that he is a superb photographer, lighting carefully and well, and ensuring that you have numerous excellent photos among which to choose your portrait. I cannot say enough about my experience with Chuck. If he costs a bit more than the other photographers, do not hesitate, his product is well worth it. For a few more details about the experience, Chuck came to my home, set up his gear and backdrops, and allowed me several wardrobe changes. We also did some shots outside and with my puppy Gretel. So besides checking that professional box, I have a wonderful shot of me and my dog that I will treasure for the rest of my life. Oh, and the icing on the cake is that Chuck is a fascinating guy with fantastic life stories. You will feel like a mini-celebrity and really enjoy your time with him.

Tony was great to work with! We had a small wedding with close friends and family at Boston City Hall, followed by a luncheon after. He helped plan things out in advance, showed up early, had great ideas for photos, and was low-key and relaxing to shoot with. He was also very respectful of us wanting privacy because of an unusual situation, and agreed not to include us in online portfolios. We considered several photographers, and are really glad we went with Tony. I'd definitely recommend him, and we'd certainly work with him again if we have occasion to. Thanks!

Jen photographed our wedding. She was responsive and professional. Her photographs were lovely and captured many spectacular organized photos but also amazing candid shots...the kind you always want to get! She warmly fit right into the background of our gathering and was very pleasant to deal with on a personal level. I would highly recommend Jen for anyone looking to hire a photographer for a wedding!

Tanya was one of the easiest/enjoyable photographers to work with. Our original event got rescheduled last minute and Tanya made herself available for our new event date without a fuss. She delivered a handful of photos the day of the event (last minute request) and delivered the remaining photos in a timely matter. Great quality photos. Would recommend.

Leisl is the whole professional package! She was the first photographer to respond to me, extremely communicative, was organized (I had given her a list of shots that I wanted and she had them with her ready to find people) and delivered pictures the very next day. Unbelievably easy to deal with! Best of all, she got all the details of our party and I think a photo of everyone there. Her prices were very reasonable too. She was an amazing find for planning an event 1400 miles away! TY Leisl!

Trevor was very accommodating with our last minute venue change. 2 weeks before our wedding day we found out our venue had been double booked and we had been bumped. Instead of rescheduling our entire wedding we just opted to move it to The Victoria Inn in Hampton. It was nice to know that we could count on Trevor to be accommodating when everything else was turning into such a mess. He even brought a second photographer because of the venue change! The weather was great and the photos he did turned out beautiful! We are very glad we went with him.

Sid did a great job of putting me at ease before and while taking the photos. I don't usually like having my picture taken, but Sid actually made it fun. And he was able to get me the proofs and final processed images quickly -- something I truly appreciated! In all, it was a wonderful experience, and I would recommend Sid to anyone looking for a head-shot photographer.

I was in search of high quality headshots for upcoming media and public relations activities for my work. I was so happy to find Rum Doodle and John. Appointment setup was a breeze -- John was fast and accommodating. During our meeting, John quickly asked questions to understand my needs and got right to work. The results were exactly what I needed. Options were provided within 24 hours. John was so great to work with and such a talented photographer (displays of his work are beautiful) that I will consider Rum Doodle for any of my photography needs -- family portraits or business events.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Where is the best place to take baby pictures?

Baby pictures are among the most popular types of portrait photography, and most newborn photographers are well versed in the best places to take baby pictures in their local areas. Some newborn photographers will come to the hospital to shoot the baby within a day or two of birth, while others have set up their studios to accommodate the needs of infants. Some parents prefer to have the newborn photographer come to their home or travel to a favorite park or other outdoor location. Like any portrait photography, the best place to take baby pictures is the place you like best and that will yield the types of photos you want of your baby, whether that’s posed and carefully lit studio portraits or spontaneous, casual photos at home. Work with a local newborn photographer to find a safe, calm location with great lighting and some privacy for your family.

How much does baby photography cost?

Portrait photography provides parents with lasting images of the first whirlwind months of a newborn’s life. The cost varies based on several factors, including the length and location of the session, the number of photos provided, and the amount of editing and retouching the photographer does. The national average cost for baby photos is $150-$200. Some baby photographers charge by the number of photos provided, typically ranging from an average of $299 for 20 high-resolution edited photos, to an average of $399 for 35 photos, to $499 for all of the images taken in a single session. Props and location affect the cost, too; an elaborate studio shoot with props and professional lighting may increase the cost to $600-$700 for 20-50 photos. Adding a second location or asking the photographer to travel can add $70-$250 to the cost of the session. Photographers may also charge extra fees for providing additional photos and DVDs, scheduling weekend sessions, and shooting siblings. Expect to pay at least a $50 deposit when you book a portrait photography session.

When should you take newborn photos?

Few styles of portrait photography are as tricky as newborn photos — the unpredictable infant is always in charge! The best way to ensure a successful photo shoot is to work with a local newborn photographer within the first two weeks of the baby’s life. Some photographers even work with hospitals to offer newborn sessions within a day of the baby’s birth. But newborn photographers usually recommend scheduling a shoot during the baby’s first two weeks of life, while the baby is still sleepy and relatively cooperative, especially for posed or studio shots. During this time, babies are easier to swaddle in blankets and dress in hats or headbands, and, because they often nap or nurse, can be staged with various props or be cuddled by their parents. For casual photos, most newborn photographers recommend shooting within the first six weeks of a baby’s life. Lifestyle portrait photography is more flexible and doesn’t require the baby to cooperate with multiple poses or props.
