I highly recommend Obed and his crew. He shows up as early as 7 AM in the morning and tries to get the job done way before the deadline. I installed Vinyl Fence and the work quality is great. The crew were highly professional. Generally with other such projects, the crew treats you badly and does not pay attention to the details. However, GMP had a wonderful crew who were respectful to my views and considered all my concerns regarding the project. I got good comments from my neighbors regarding the fence.

I had a wonderful experience working with Shawn on a new back yard fence. He & Michele came on a Friday night to meet with me & take measurements. He determined all the materials I would need and gave me a proposal. Shawn ordered everything for me and then asked me to switch to a different supplier since it would be weeks until they could deliver. This made the project finish much sooner. The privacy in my back yard is nice and it keeps 2 dogs in the yard. Whenever I need other work done, I will be calling Seekins Contracting. Karen

I couldn't be happier with FW Home Improvement and I am so grateful that I was able to find him through Thumbtack. Felipe and his partner were wonderful and easy to work with throughout our project. He was courteous, responsive and did quality work on our new fence for a reasonable price. I am hoping to have FW Home Improvement back soon to help with other projects in our home. Thank you so much Felipe and Thumbtack!

We are a small self-managed condominium. A. Merida regraded a side yard area after we had 150 feet of pvc pipe installed underground to move downspout water away from the buildings. He did an excellent job grading. His price was competitive. He is one of the most conscientious workers we have seen in a long time. We will definitely hire him to do additional projects.

Railings installed in new granite steps - Manchester, NH. Joao arrived a day late for the estimate, so I thought I had been stood up (he had the wrong date in his calendar). But I was happy that he made the trip to discuss my project and make recommendations. No other railing manufacturer recommended the material he did and it was ultimately what I chose, so as to not ever have to worry about rust. He custom made the railings and his guys installed them within the estimated time frame, which was quite reasonable. They were professional (except the smoking part) and did an good job overall. Joao also had the best pricing out of the 4 estimates I received. I would definitely recommend Azores Iron Work Corp. for your metal fabrication and installation project.

I hired them to replace an old wooden fence with a vinyl one. He walked us through the estimate and worked with us to shop for materials, very cooperative. On time, very professional, cleaned up after, nice work, I would highly recommend.

George came one day after I hired him to remove a wooden fence and old swing set. I found him to be an exceptionally hard worker who gave a very fair price for the work. He also was a great communicator, letting me know that he hit some traffic and would be a few minutes late. When the job was done, he cleaned up beautifully. And he was a truly nice guy. I would definitely use him again.

Joe installed our laminate wood flooring in our kitchen and bathroom. There was a lot of cutting in order to fit around small places including around the hole after he took off the toilet. He is very precise in his measurements and everything came out beautifully. There was a small jutting out on one of the boards that he had already put down, but he redid it without any problem or delay, and the floor looks absolutely flawless! He works like a machine and this job was complete in 2 days! Thanks again, Joe!

Cesar did a fantastic job with tearing down my broken fence and installing the new vinyl fence. He sent me pictures every step of the way, communicated with me throughout the process and completed the job in just a day and a half! I intend to hire him again for some other home repair projects I need done.

The fence that Brian installed looks great and was exactly what we had envisioned. He went above and beyond to make sure the fence was secure for our dog and did an excellent job filling in and potential “escape” gaps. I highly recommend Hallmark Property Improvements.

Jason and his helper were superb!! Very professional, answered every question I had about repairing a pipe in the attic which was dripping water into a room below. Water was caused by condensation from the whole house air conditioner. He also unclogged 2 very stubborn bathtub drains. Nothing I tried would budge the clog. Extremely pleased with all that was done. Jason even showed me and answered questions I had about other problems in the house, unrelated to the job he was here to do. I will definately hire him again when and if, the need arises.

Jeremias did a very good job with our landscaping project which involved cleaning up the back, front, and side yards (leaves, weed, removing dead plants/shrubs), mulching/etching, installing a 3 zone sprinkler system with rain sensors, and sodding the front yard. He also helped plant several plants.

From the time we decided to move forward with KD, our supplies for our fence were ordered the next day, and installation was started and almost completed the day after. Even the owner was out in the cold, rain with his fellow colleagues putting up our fence. Greg was fantastic and very kind. He came out the very day I reached out to him and he took the measurements we needed. They worked within our budget and were upfront with us every step of the way. We will definitely be using them for our decking and landscaping needs in the spring.

I hired them to install a post and beam fence. They were very professional. I was concerned about completing the job before a predicted snowfall, and they came and finished it on a Sunday! The fence looks great and I am happy with the results. I would use them again for other projects.

I chose the best company for my landscaping services. I couldn't have asked for a better professional and respectful team to work on my house! The front of my house looked like a jungle since it was taken over by weeds and overgrown bushes. We were also in desperate need of some type of fencing since we needed privacy and wanted to keep neighbor's animals out from doing their business on our front lawn. Taking on the landscape was out of our comfort zone so my boyfriend and I finally made the decision to shop around for landscaping quotes. As a first time homeowner, I am very skeptical and cautious about hiring any company to do any work on my house. While shopping around, we came to realize that certain landscaping companies only perform work they are best at and most didn't even include installing fences. Some showed their discomfort in our request, which made us very uncomfortable to hire them because we wanted the best results for the money we were going to spend. After searching around once more, I stumbled upon Done Right Landscaping. I've seen their signs on work they have done around the area, so I just did a little more research before wasting my time again. Come to find out, they do everything! Fencing, asphalt, landscaping, pavers, and even tree service! Even though they offered it all, I hoped that the outcome was as good as the companies that concentrated on what they were great at. Bruce, who I found out later was the owner of the company, came by the house as soon as he was available. Once we told him about the work that we needed, he was very helpful about all the good or bad decisions that we were making. Even though other landscaping companies suggested other work to make it easier for them, Bruce suggested work that would make our house beautiful and we felt very comfortable with how above and beyond he wanted to go for us. We agreed on pavers, fencing, pruning of this terrible tree that ruined our cars, and low maintenance plants that is great for busy workers like my boyfriend and I. It sounded so good so we just had to do it! Now just to be clear, they were definitely pricey, but a price definitely worth paying. They finished in three days! Everything was as perfect as he described it and now I am falling in love with my house all over again! I would find any excuse to go outside just to walk on those pavers. The comfort of reassurance from Bruce and his team with the outcome of the job made the experience absolutely worth it. I am in complete bliss and would recommend them to everyone. You will not be disappointed! Thanks again to guys for their awesome job!!

    Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
    • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
    • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
    • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
    • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

    • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
    • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
    • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
    • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
    • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
    • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
    • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
    • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
