- What should the customer know about your pricing (e.g., discounts, fees)? When it comes to moving companies providing estimates there are numerous different approaches that are taken. For us when providing an onsite quote the best approach I have learned after years in the business is this: We will go around with the potential customer at their current home and observe all of the access points (doorways, stairs, parking location for the truck). Also when going from room to room we make note of everything that is needed to be moved (lists of all the major pieces, approx #of boxes, and what will be needed such as furniture pads as well as shrink wrap). After all of this is recorded we will write a flat-rate price based on everything that was gathered at the customers house. The only difference between our flat-rate cost and a competitors is that as anyone who moves knows, many different things can change up to moving day. For us we write up the price and mention that if the job is to take longer than the predicted time their is an additional hourly fee based on the crew size. An example would be as follows: A lot of customers may plan on doing a lot on their smaller items on their own or even all of the boxes but if they are unable to get to it in time the job will take us longer than expected and hat is why we add in the additional hourly rate.
- What is your typical process for working with a new customer? When working with a new customer, here at First-Rate Moving we gather as much information as possible about the details of THEIR specific move. The more information received from the customer the more accurate the quote will be ensuring their will be no hidden costs which in return enables us to live up to our great customer service reputation. When preparing a quote for a smaller job, basic information is requested to provide an accurate and educated quote. Bigger moving requests such as house moves, long distance moves, or even office moves, onsite quote preparation is highly preferred.
- How did you get started doing this type of work?I began doing this work on the side to earn some extra money. The more and more I did it I realized just how stressful and complicated a move can be for someone. Very rare is it an easy process for someone wether they are moving a short distance or from state to state. What we take our pride in is our customer service and working with the customer which can involve a lot of back and forth with changes as the move date gets closer. We provide service at all hours and seven days a week which enables us to get the job done and on the day it needs to happen.
