My initial job request was for a drippy faucet; this simple task turned into a more complicated issue as the faucet needed parts replaced, and it is a discontinued product. Jason took initiative to contact the company and determine how to get the necessary parts. He also discovered another defective part in the sprayer that had been leaking underneath the cabinet. Jason had to visit me three times to complete this task, but always communicated easily via text to keep me informed as to the status of the service. He was courteous, friendly, professional, very patient - I never felt like he was rushing, and he always wiped things down and cleaned up before he left. I chose him initially because he had such glowing, positive reviews, and now I know why. I would definitely hire him again for future services.

Jonathan just finished installing an IKEA kitchen for me. New base cabinet, wall cabinets, a built in microwave, and countertop. He had to work with difficult sloping walls (brick and terrible dry wall) and it looks fantastic. He even added a backboard to the counter when we asked. Jonathan replied to all my texts and emails quickly. He was very professional and skilled.

Marty had to install a new microwave for us. It entailed refitting a cabinet, making it half the original size, and installing the microwave there. The project was in good hands. Marty spoke with my husband, came up with a feasibile plan and then he executed perfectly. He cut the existing cabinet in half and also made the door to fit! Marty was very professional, Very respectful, has a careful eye for details and was not done until he was 100% satisfied.

This gentleman is an amiable professional who it was a pleasure to provide an extra set of hands to during the "cabinet" assembly. His professionalism was very apparent in his repair of the drawer slides on my kitchen "hooch". I have another "cabinet" job planned for the future and definitely plan to use his professional services.

Herson Lopez and his team executed three projects simultaneously for us: re-roofing our house, a complete exterior paint job, and the re-building of our front porch. Their work was excellent, and the end results look terrific. More importantly, though, was the fact that all the work was completed on-time and on-budget. In addition, Herson was personally involved in project oversight, and he took the time to communicate with us on a regular basis as work progressed. I highly recommend Herson, and I will gladly rely on him for future work!

Tom's team did an outstanding job at painting very high contemporary ceiling rooms. Patched ceiling cracks and smoothed out ceiling issues from previous non-TNS work. He did creative carpentry work to fix problems with a hall corner wall, hole in bath wall and deck board that had rot. Fixed kitchen cabinet drawer that did not work. Great communication and execution. Hard workers, that were very accommodating of my schedule and my dogs. Great experience

I hired Gamboa painting to paint my kitchen cabinets, walls and ceiling. It wasn't until I had seen Gamboa's work that I was comfortable having my kitchen cabinets spray painted. Finding the right person to do the job is critical in cabinet painting because imperfections show easily and durability is very important. Gamboa's painting did an excellent job patching and preparing the walls and ceiling as well. They were neat, easy to communicate with and there was never any disagreement about the scope of the job or agreed upon price. It was a pleasure dealing with Carlos and his crew and I highly recommend his company.

I needed Glenn to replace my kitchen cabinets. Out of the quotes I received, his was most affordable and the pictures of his previous work looked the best. I really wanted someone who was able to work on it in the evening after I got off work and Glenn was happy accommodate me, working until 11pm for a few days. He took his time to carefully explain what work he would be doing. I even mentioned some door that someone else told me needed to be replaced. Glenn was very honest and explained that he could simply re-hinge the door and that a door replacement was an unnecessary expense. I will definitely keep his contact information handy for any other repair needs I have.

Wow! Susan and her assistant were absolutely amazing. My household goods and furniture arrived this week from Washington DC and they unpacked everything for me. I was extremely ill (going through a severe lupus flare) and they simply proceeded ahead to organize and put away everything I own -- from putting down shelf liner in my cabinets to hanging clothes in my closet to putting my bed together all in a meticulous and coordinated manner. My condo looks like a showroom. If you have a chance to hire Susan you will never ever regret it. In fact, you would regret it if you don't!

We hired Joe to build a fairly large cabinet for our living room to cover a long radiator. We wanted something clean and elegant and that would fit in with our modern decor. The cabinet also needed to be built based on some technical requirements including the need for doors to open and slats to allow heat to radiate. Joe did a fantastic job. He listened to our needs. Provided some great suggestions and completed the cabinet quickly. The work came out beautifully. And at a very reasonable price. Joe is a master craftsman and a really nice guy too. He is very professional and reliable. We will definitely hire him again to do more work. We highly recommend him.

Kiko was extremely professional from the initial contact through the end of the job, and this was an overall great experience! He provided a quote and time for installation (he was flexible, and since he's REALLY good at what he does he is constantly working, so make sure you book him when he says he's available) and was pleasant to work with and a great conversationalist to boot! He communicated issues whenever they popped up, and provided solutions with ease, he truly is the IKEA SPECIALIST!!!!! If you want a job well done, hire Kiko!!!!!!!!

Salvatore made a bathroom vanity and a matching medicine cabinet for me. It took him approximately 6 weeks. What impressed me most about Salvatore was that he really listened to my descriptions of what I was looking for and paid attention to the pictures I sent him and then drew up a design that really represented what I had in mind. He also made available some of the work he did for other customers so that I could see his craftmanship. The cabinet he completed for me exceeded my expectations. It was very well made and clearly one of a kind. The detail in the wood was beautiful. He also offered his opinion about the proper hardware that would go best with the style of the cabinet. I felt very comfortable relying on Salvatore's expertise. He is a true professional and knows how to please his customers. He is also a really nice person and easy to work with. I also felt that his fee was very reasonable and I found him less expensive than many other cabinet makers. I will certainly use him again when I need another cabinet made. I highly recommend him.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

Do you tip cabinet installers?

In general, home service providers such as electricians, plumbers and contractors are professionals who don’t expect tips. They expect to do a job for you for the specific price they quoted. Of course, they may appreciate a tip for a job particularly well done or for which they’ve gone beyond what’s normally expected, such as completing the project early or under budget. Even better than a tip, it’s always appropriate to leave a positive review online after a good experience.

How much is custom cabinetry?

Custom cabinets can be built for any room, including bedroom closets and built-in armoires. Measured carefully and built precisely, custom cabinetry can increase storage and beautify any room. The national average for building custom cabinets ranges from $500 to $1,200 per linear foot. The cost is highly variable because there are so many styles, colors, glazes and other options. In general, the linear footage of the cabinets, the materials used to build them, and the cost of the labor will determine the cost. Solid wood costs more than plywood and wood veneer, and costs vary among different types of wood; maple and cherry cabinets are more expensive than pine. Glass-front cabinets can cost more, as can decorative hinges, handles and door pulls, which can cost $2-$45 each; choose carefully to stay within your budget and pull off the exact look you’re going for. Some carpenters also charge for installation, on average $100 per cabinet box. Additional molding and trim, such as crown molding at the ceiling, cost an average of $70 per 8-foot section, and adding finished ends to exposed cabinets averages $100-$200.

How much does it cost to have kitchen cabinets installed?

In any kitchen, the cabinets are the main focus, so you want to make sure new or replacement cabinets are installed correctly. A professional carpenter can properly, securely mount new cabinets to the wall; the national average cost for this service is $7,725, although the cost varies widely depending on the type of cabinets, their material and their size, and the accessories you add. A typical fee is $70 per linear foot to remove existing cabinets and assemble and install new ones; the cost is less if you do the demolition and removal yourself. Stock cabinets are the least expensive to have installed, ranging from $75 to $400 each; semi-custom cabinets range from $150 to $900 each; and custom cabinets cost from $500 to $1,400 each. Wood cabinets are more expensive than those made from plywood or medium-density fiberboard (MDF) and finished with a laminate. Wood cabinets range in cost from $80 to $160 per linear foot. Laminate-finished cabinets cost $35 to $75 per linear foot, on average.
