Working with Vlada Von Shats was nothing short of a disaster. Although she seemed capable when we first met her (and based on her reviews), she was ultimately an incredibly unreliable officiant. Here's what happened: She forgot our wedding date and maintains this is somehow our fault, despite being unable to produce our contract and point to our written mistake. She kept saying that we verbally gave her the wrong date, but we have written transactional receipts that indicate our intended wedding date, which did not change in between our initial meeting and the day of. She botched the paperwork, resulting in our having to return to the City Clerk and get remarried by a new officiant and witnesses. About a month after the ceremony, we received word from the city that she had all of us (bride, groom, and witnesses) sign the incorrect lines. When we called her to ask for advice, she again refused to accept any blame stating, “your witnesses signed the wrong lines, not me.” She said that she had “done her job” by writing a generic script and performing a ceremony. However, on the NYS website it says: “It is the officiant's responsibility to ensure that the officiant and witness portions of the license are properly completed and accurate.” Needless to say, she failed to complete that task on our wedding day. It is ridiculous of her to expect untrained laymen to accurately fill out paperwork that is her responsibility — why hire an officiant at all? I admit that our immediate reaction to Vlada’s missing presence and forgetfulness was less than kind — there were some mean words exchanged. That being said, we did apologize afterwards. We will never know if the paperwork was filed incorrectly deliberately or not; what matters is that 2 major mistakes happened on our wedding day due to Vlada’s negligence. What was supposed to be one of the happiest days of our lives ended up being a very irritating experience. We were fortunate in that we had a very small ceremony of <10 people, so not many were directly impacted by Vlada’s blunders. We hope that others will not make the same mistake we did in hiring her. The only reason I am not giving her 1 star is because I believe Vlada genuinely did not mean to forget our wedding date. She also did eventually refund us, so it was not a complete loss.Oct 29, 2018Verified

From the moment my husband and I met Vlada, we both knew she was the one. We had that instant connection and by the time lunch was over (our first meeting), we left feeling like we just had lunch with a friend. As to our ceremony, Vlada was everything we imagined she would be. Completely comfortable, and were a crazy bunch, and also hysterical! I couldn't say anything bad about Vlada because she was perfect! I would highly recommend Vlada. I know I plan on using her in the future.Apr 18, 2016Verified
Vlada was amazing! Not only is she one of the sweetest women I've ever met, but she did a great job with the ceremony. My father signed the wrong spot on the marriage license and Vlada contacted the clerk the next business day to get a new one made up. She then drove all the way to my apartment over an hour away from her home to sign it again! I highly recommend Vlada.Nov 13, 2015Verified
