I wish more companies would be as professional, polite and detailed oriented as Simply Moving. Dreading a long distance move from NYC to SoFL and the packing up went seamlessly today. Met with Emi for an onsite and felt SM would be right choice. Chanel and Patrick arrived on time and were a pleasure to work with. Very pleased so far and hoping the remainder of the move ends as smoothly as it began.

I've moved a lot in this city and Dyno was by far the best experience I've had. The team was on time, efficient, careful and still super fast! Only note would be to buy your own boxes and packing materials. They charge a lot for their supplies

I am so glad to have discovered Movers for a Cause. They are professional, courteous, quick and incredibly good at packing an ABF Cube (aka Pod) making the best use of the limited space. I had all sorts of assorted furniture and boxes, odds and ends, and they seemed to know just how to fit all the puzzles together. Highly recommend their services.

I normally don't write reviews but I am inclined to write one due to exceptional service provided by Darius & Co. I am amazed at how easily and professionally the move was done, thanks to Darius. This Guy is a Superman and did most of the shift by himself. Darius arrived 45 mins earlier than scheduled time and patiently waited to start. The whole move was done in around 4 hours including 90 mins of travel time - all in all it was breeze of a move. Darius is always smiling and love his job which absorbs all the stress related with moving, which is not an easy proposition. I highly recommend his services - If you are looking for a move and are lucky that Darius provide service in your area - Look No Further!!

Kadeem and his team were not only very efficient and fast but we're also kind people that I felt very comfortable having around my house, we even had great conversation while packing. They helped me with everything that I asked them and even disassembled my furniture without extra cost. Kadeem is an overall good guy who makes sure to go above and beyond to accommodate anything you need. I even texted in my moving despair like a crazy person at 1am to ask him for a specific tool I needed and he answered right away that he would bring his whole tool box just in case (not that you should annoy pros at 1AM like I do.. don't) . On top of that I called in the morning to reschedule for a couple hours later and with absolutely no fuss he just said : " sure we can do that" . Would definitely recommend! It's worth paying for this packing service, it takes infinite amounts of stress off of you when moving. Thank you!

We contacted Ample moving at the kart moment and luckily they were available at a very short notice. The moving crew arrived okln time and got to work immediately. There were 3 guys and 2 of them were involved in arranging stuff in the truck while only 1 was packing the furniture. This led to a large time being taken for loading the items. The main packing guy was grumbling the whole time about how it was a 4 man job etc.. Etc... There was a gap between the quality of move and the rating provided to them on yelp and this site. That said there were instances of poor assembly of our furniture with dresser mirror not assembled properl where the mirror is held up by only 2 bolts instead of 4 and they misplaced the other 2. Not major by themselves but irritants. I would say that they are good but not excellent and have some ways to go.

Voyo and his team were great. The were no hidden fee's at all. Packing supplies and boxes are available for purchase if you need. but not obligated to use their stuff. They were no fees for gas or transit. If your upfront with your needs the quoted rate stands, nothing was different than what we discussed and the contract. Priced very reasonable and the best price of any quote. Tipping is encouraged and you are reminded about that several times. I did not have a problem with this practice. The guys deserved it. It was a Flat fee move. I guess depending on what you move is depends on your rate, in which that depends on the hours of manpower. My move was a 5 hour window. . I moved from a storage garage to a Storage Facility. 90% of my items were already packed in Storage bins, I had 3 rolling clothing racks, and one piece of furniture. I had 3 Industrial Shelving units that needed to be dismantled and put back together at the new location. The guys were comfortable doing this. Voyo was easy to communicate with and available for any questions. The guys and the van arrived during the window promised. Everything was loaded efficiently and thoughtfully. My only issue, and I mean only issue, was getting from A to B. I was eager to give directions to the next location, and was told not to worry because of GPS. I just think it was a rush decision to depend on technology. GPS did not route them properly, so 1:20 minutes was lost in transit. The guys did call me 2x to let me know, so that was good. When they did arrive, very apologetic and they would still honor my 5 hour window even if they went over. Luckily, we did not go over. The entire process took 4:41 minutes. My overall experience was not effected. Voyo, also called to express his apology. I would use them again and again. I highly recommend A Piece of Cake as a moving company.

Sergiu was great and always super responsive in all communication prior to the moving date. The moving itself was done by 3 guys. They showed up a little late but once they arrived I could see they knew what they were doing and were very efficient with all the packing and moving. Everything was very well protected in blankets, tapes and plastic. At the new apt, they unpacked the furniture, assembled bed and all and put everything into place, just as it was before, TV, nightstands, chest, even the rugs, which was nice. Nothing was damaged. It was a nice job.

I recently hired Always Moving Property Maintenance Services to carry out a small moving job for me in my home. Not only were they prompt in their response to my inquiry for a quote, they showed up when they promised and delivered the services I had asked for within the hour. I would highly recommend them to anyone seeking honest and reliable movers. Hands down!

Tyler installed a full motion mount for my 70" television this pass Weekend. Tyler had a quick response to my inquiry (on Thumbtack) and he was extremely helpful in walking me through the process of installation since I was a first timer. Tyler and Richard arrived timely and worked quickly. They were very neat and left no clean up for me. BeauMount Services was affordable and worked expeditiously to have my TV up for my enjoyment. I highly recommend BeauMount Services because they were professional and had lots of patience with me. Tyler and Richard will definitely be installing my next TV.

I am a single father that needed a little help around the house as I am constantly working. A friend referred me to Mary's cleaning services and it has been a life saver. Between work and my child I barley have time to take care of my home so I needed some help. Mary's cleaning service does an amazing job, at a very affordable price, and she works around my hectic schedule. My house has never been cleaner! She is a godsend, she didn't just do the basics, but listened to what I needed to make my home clean and safe for my child. I highly recomend Mary's cleaning services, they are responsible, reliable, professional, affordable, and most of all friendly! Thank you Mary!

Not too bad of a job that do and I'm overall impressed! Relocating from my 2 and a half bed apartment from Norfolk Virginia to a 1 bedroom home in Maplewood, NJ. James and other movers are careful and professionals. From packing to everything, not a single scratch and to my shock the quote did not change which is what Erica assured to us and she is 100% right!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What do moving companies do?

Moving companies provide a range of services to help you physically move out of one residence and move into a new place. But moving companies can do so much more than just haul your belongings across town in a truck. The national average for moving company prices ($250-$350 per hour) reflects the range of services provided. Here are examples of all the ways moving companies can help:

  • Packing: Moving companies can pack your belongings for you. They typically charge a flat rate for both the box and the labor to pack the box. The more time-consuming the belongings are to pack, the higher the cost per box. For example, books could be $5 per box, linens $10 per box, and fine china and glassware $18 per box.
  • Specialty moving: Safely move a baby grand piano, a oversize aquarium, or other specialty items with the help of pro movers.
  • Storage: Many moving companies can store your belongings while you wait for a new home to be remodeled or closing of your new home to be finalized. If you’re moving long-distance, they often provide short-term storage free for a specific length of time, and a set rate after that (such as $60 per square cubic foot of storage space used).
  • Long-distance moves: No need to rent a trailer and move your things; a long-distance moving company can haul your belongings across the country for you. Typically they charge by the cubic foot for moves, with prices based on your destination.
  • Unpacking: Moving companies can even unpack your belongings for you after they have moved them. This is not as common, and will definitely increase the price, but can be helpful if you’re not able to tackle this task yourself.

How much does a moving company charge per hour?

When you’re ready to make a major move, it’s time to research moving companies’ prices. A moving company may charge on average anywhere between $25 and $100 per hour, per worker, for moving services. The price will vary with regional labor rates, local cost to do business, and the level of service the movers are providing. Nationally, the average hourly rate for a moving company is $250-$350 per hour. This price includes a range of pricing, from all-in service with four or more movers on site to standard hourly rates for one or two movers. Other factors that affect moving companies’ prices are packing, stairs (or elevators), and distance. For a full-service move, you pay movers to pack your belongings for you. You may pay for the cost of the moving boxes and an hourly rate per worker, and there may be additional charges for packing fragile items. Stairs will also add to your moving prices. Lifting and carrying boxes and furniture up and down stairs takes more time and creates more physical labor for the workers. Moving companies may charge flat rates for flights of stairs, such as $50-$70 per flight. A moving company may also charge a one-time fee for moving things via elevator, such as $75-$100. If parking is not accessible in front of your home or apartment building, there may also be an additional fee for the added distance to carry your belongings to the truck.

How much does it cost for long-distance movers?

Long-distance movers transport your belongings across the country for you. No more renting a trailer and road-tripping from state to state with your entire house hitched to your bumper. Long-distance movers make the move happen so you can fly to your new home, suitcase in hand, and wait for your furniture to arrive. Nationally, the average price range for long-distance movers is $1,490-$2,230. The distance you are moving and the number of cubic feet the movers have to transport will both affect cost. Another factor in long-distance moving costs is whether you choose to pay for an exclusive move or a consolidated move.

In an exclusive move, which is more expensive, your belongings are the only cargo on the moving truck. The movers travel directly to your new house and deliver your belongings on a scheduled day. A consolidated move is more affordable because the movers transport your belongings along with those of other people, saving them time and gas — which means you save money. The downside is that your belongings typically arrive with a two-week delivery window rather than on a prescheduled day. Read reviews to make sure you can trust the company with your possessions to ensure a peaceful moving process.

How much does it cost to move a one-bedroom apartment across the country?

Professional movers can handle the hard work of moving your one-bedroom apartment across the country for you. You can determine what your move will cost by learning the rate your movers charge per cubic foot and how they factor distance into the total cost. Cross-country movers typically charge based on your belongings rather than apartment size because that determines how much work they will have to do. For example, a studio apartment that is crammed full of things will take more work and moving truck space than the contents of a three-bedroom apartment with very little furniture.

Cross-country movers may also have varying rates, depending on where in the country you are moving. For example, a company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. A one-bedroom apartment costs approximately $1,500 to move across the country.

How much does it cost to move across the country?

The national average cost for hiring cross-country movers is $1,490-$2,220. A number of factors can affect the cost. One factor is the distance you want to move. For example, an East Coast-based moving company may charge $5 per cubic foot for consolidated moves along the East Coast and $6 per cubic foot for consolidated moves from the East Coast to the central states or the West Coast. Another factor is how many belongings you have. Most cross-country movers charge by the cubic foot.

The type of move you want is another consideration in cost. You can have your belongings moved exclusively and delivered on a set day, or you can opt for a consolidated move, which is less expensive. In a consolidated move your belongings are stored and transported with the goods of other customers who are moving to your general vicinity during the same general time frame as you. Your belongings should arrive within a one- to two-week window, rather than on a set day. If you want the cross-country movers to pack your belongings for you, the cost will also increase.
