Ainna is a very sensitive teacher who caters each lesson to your needs. I was very hesitant and shy about taking lessons and after just the first one that feeling completely vanished. She completely changed my preconceived notions about taking lessons! Each one was serious and challenging but we also laughed and had fun. At the end of each lesson I found myself each time so happy that I had just had one. The words and phrases I learned have stuck with me. She will use books, visual props around your room and personalize each lesson for you. She also switches between different themes during each lesson so that you never get bored. I took lessons with her in my home and each and every time she came over I very much looked forward to it, especially after speaking to colleagues of mine who were also taking French lessons but never described them as 'fun' and 'exciting' like I described mine. I highly, highly recommend Ainna.

I have been a student of Zoe's for 3 years. I speak freely with her, not in a self conscious way, not afraid to make mistakes. She is always very present, quick to correct and her patience is immense. She is highly creative, extremely well-read in both French and English classics as well as contemporary literature. She recommends films and books and challenges me with puzzles, games and she directs me to other French related curriculum that one can find on the internet. She designs her own practice materials with taste and with her own drawings, as she is an accomplish artist as well. Plus--she has great French style and a great sense of humor.

I contacted Claudia on behalf of my 16 year old daughter, who was struggling with French in school. Claudia was very warm, friendly, and kind. She made my daughter comfortable within minutes. Her skills at French and as a teacher were outstanding. She was able to teach my daughter an approach to understanding what she was struggling with in school, and my daughter's grades started to go up. Claudia has been a terrific find, and I strongly recommend her without reservation.

Very clear and concise. Asks questions to make sure the French party understands the full translation - rather than a literal translation.

I love the Italian language and culture and realized my speaking abilities from my university studies were rustier than I thought during a recent trip to Italy this past summer. Upon my return to the States, I immediately sought private tutoring and I could not be more satisfied in finding Mariateresa. I've seen vast improvement in my comprehension and speaking since I started taking lessons with her. The first couple months were focused on fundamentals and book work but now each lesson begins with about 30 mins of conversation (in Italian of course) before diving into books. I cannot recommend Mariateresa enough regardless of your comprehension level because not only does she challenge me every week to improve my skill but the time spent with her is very enjoyable and something I look forward to every week.

About

I am very familiar with the concerns parents may have, with the apprehensions students may feel, and with the workload schools give their students. Having been born in Paris and later educated at the Lycée Francais de New York, French is my mother tongue. I continued my studies at the Dwight Anglo-American International School and later graduated from NYU with a dual degree in History and Economics. My familiarity with the International Baccalaureate (IB) and its rigorous curriculum is sure to help you or your child become a successful student. During my years at the Dwight School, I obtained a Bilingual French-English International Diploma. I have years of teaching experience. Although strong grammar is critical to the way I teach, I also emphasize the importance of French popular culture, politics and arts. I also teach SAT II French. You can contact me through email.
