George showed up on time and did a perfect job. There was one chair of the 9 that had some stubborn stains and he kept working at it until it looked as great as the other 8. He was professional and courteous and I'd hire him again in a minute to do upholstery cleaning or carpet/rug cleaning.

Mike did an amazing job! I originally hired him to power wash my backyard fence. He provided an accurate estimate by submitting photos of the areas that I wanted washing. He was diligent, prompt for the appointment, and very friendly. I learned he did carpets so I added cleaning my living room carpet and the carpet in my kitchen area as well. He got a red juice stain and ash stains out of the carpet and I it looks like new! Since he did a great job on that I asked that he clean the sofas as well. He had the flexibility to add the additional projects and did it with a smile. He was extremely reasonable with his prices and not only do I highly recommend him, I plan to use him again! Apparently he also does commercial work. Let's support small businesses!

I've used a bunch of carpet cleaners before. AMSD is the best carpet cleaner I've used by far, their rates are very competitive and the tech was very helpful. Will definitely use again and recommend!

Honestly my carpet wasn’t the condition they got it I took a picture of it before I sent it over to them and they said it was in worst. That as them stepping all over it without a care. They were super unresponsive and irresponsible. And the carpet smells horrible and our stains in which was the reason we got a carpet cleaning now still there. Waste of money to be honest. I guess they tried their best but it’s not really enough.

Rex and Son painted our apartment, 3 rooms, plus ceilings and closets. They did a great job! They came right away to give me an estimate, and started work in two days! They were friendly, reliable, and honest. They even offerred to do some extra work at no extracharge - rug cleaning, and minor maintenance work. Fast and reliable.

Phil has the right equipment, the knowledge, and the brawn to do the job the right way. I tried the "do it yourself" carpet cleaners which had little effect compared to the machinery and solvents Phil has. Money well spent for me with a surprisingly good outcome.

We had them clean several carpets and the upholstery on the living room furniture. Very professional. On time and courteous. Didn't bait and switch on the prices, or try to sell us a bunch of costly extras like some of the previous carpet cleaning companies have done business with. Great job! Intend on using them going forward.

The result of cleaning my rug has cleared all fears about the possibility to return it to a decent appearance and has surpassed many times my original greatest expectations. This is a very good job! And, most importantly, a very reasonable price. Thank you from all our family..

Richie came on time and was fully prepared. He called me the day before to confirm. He quickly clean the rugs and then power wash the house to perfection. I cannot recommend ProServ enough. If there are more stars to give them I would rate them even higher. Make sure you ask for Richie

Leonardo was very professional and I could tell he had years of experience behind him by the car he put into cleaning the rugs in rooms and stairway. Leonardo was also able to fit me into his schedule the next day as I prepared for family coming from out of town.

I'd definitely recommend Darnell to friends and family. He had great energy, was very knowledgeable, and answered all of my questions. He was able to get crushed strawberries out of my living room carpet, and my bedroom carpet looks brand new. Excellent service. Thanks again for going above and beyond! Salomé, Scarsdale, NY

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How often should carpets be steam cleaned?

Dirty carpets can be unhealthy for the people living in the home, particularly those who have allergies, so it’s important to have them cleaned regularly; simply vacuuming once or twice a week isn’t enough. Carpet cleaning should be done by a professional carpet cleaning service at least once a year to remove grime and help extend the life of your carpet. Most carpet manufacturers recommend professional steam cleaning, which penetrates deep into the carpet fibers and lifts out both dirt and the pollutants that get tracked inside. Steam cleaning also removes most of the moisture, so carpets dry quickly enough for homeowners to resume using them the same day. Between professional carpet cleanings, your carpet may need an emergency spot cleaning. Pet accidents, food or drink spills, and more can often be effectively cleaned with some water and a drop of white vinegar, although many cleaners will also make house calls for smaller spills and hard-to-clean spots like wine or grease stains.

Who cleans area rugs?

Like your carpets, area rugs should ideally be cleaned at least once a year to remove dust and dirt and help them last longer. In general, carpet cleaning professionals also clean area rugs. Some rug cleaners bring their cleaning equipment to your home, while others remove your area rugs and clean them at their facilities. Either way, the rug should be cleaned with the solution most appropriate to its specific fabric and construction. It should also be completely dry before you return it to the floor.

How much does it cost to clean a rug?

Area rugs are typically found in high-traffic areas of the home, like hallways and entryways, so they collect more dirt and stains than simple vacuuming can handle. Similar to carpet cleaning, professionals can come to your home to deep-clean your area rugs. The national average cost for rug cleaning ranges from $80 to $120, but may be higher or lower depending on the rug’s size and fiber type. Rug cleaners generally charge by the square foot; for example, a standard 8-foot by 10-foot rug costs an average of $100 to clean. Natural fiber rugs, such as wool or silk, are usually more expensive to have cleaned than synthetic rugs. A carpeting cleaning company may charge on average $1.50 per square foot to clean a synthetic rug, $2 per square foot for a wool rug, and $3 per square foot for a silk rug. Some delicate rugs need to be washed by hand, which increases the price. Carpet cleaning companies often offer additional services, such as removing odors or applying moth deterrent, which can add 20 cents to 25 cents per square foot.

How do you find a good carpet cleaning company?

Regular professional carpet cleaning can both extend the life of your carpet and remove harmful pollutants from your home. Finding a good carpet cleaning company is an important aspect of home maintenance. When choosing a carpet cleaner, consider these top three questions:

  • What method of carpet cleaning do you prefer? Steam cleaning is an increasingly popular method because it’s thorough and safe, and dries quickly enough for you to return to your home the same day the carpets are cleaned.
  • Have you checked the company’s references? Most cities are home to several carpet cleaning companies, so it’s a good idea to check their reviews and references. Look for references from people in your neighborhood with homes similar to yours.
  • What’s included in the base price? What other services does the carpet cleaning company offer? Some companies will move furniture for you, while others charge a fee for it. Some include stairs in the cost of the home’s cleaning, while others charge per step.

What does carpet cleaning cost?

National average carpet cleaning prices range between $100 and $130. Carpet cleaning prices depend on how many square feet of carpet you want cleaned, how many rooms in one house or building will be cleaned, how stained your carpet is, how much the carpet cleaning company charges, your ZIP code, and the type of carpet you have. Cost per square foot can range from 20 cents to $1 or more, based on the above variables. Synthetic carpets are typically the least expensive to clean; natural fibers like wool cost more, as they require more care and attention, as well as more drying time. Excessive stains, challenging locations such as stairs, and accessibility also factor into your carpet cleaning price. Companies may charge a minimum service fee for cleaning a small carpet to cover their business expenses (paying employees, transporting the special equipment to your home). If your pet has repeatedly saturated the carpet with urine or if the fibers are extremely matted down, it may make more sense to completely replace your carpet than to continue to have it cleaned.
