I hired hired Berry Home Improvements & Handymen Services to install and faucet in my bathroom. The job definitely needed someone with Berry's knowledge and experience. He was very professional and had all the tools necessary to get the job done right. He also installed a ceiling fan. With both jobs, he was very patient and cleaned up after he was done. I'll definitely use Berry's Home Improvements & Handymen Services again.

Walter came in as a last minute save the day contractor. He is a general contractor licensed and insured and came to fix mistakes of another contractor and fix my faucets install. He ended up doing an amazing job and added a sealer to my carrera marble vanity. I am using him again for my next project. He does what he says he will, sticks to price and exceeds expectations. NICE GUY overall. Don't look further!

Roosevelt was a miracle worker! First, he was kind enough to change the time of our appointment to accommodate my schedule. Then he was professional and courteous enough to let me know when he was in the area looking for parking. And then the work ... Roosevelt began at 8:15p and long after I had given up that my job was solvable, he persevered, took apart my entire stove, cured my issue, even fixing additional issues along the way, and then put my stove back together better than before! Over 3 hours later, he walked out of my home at 11:30p. I CANNOT recommend this company high enough. Do not hesitate to use them for all your appliance repair needs. You will be grateful.

Ruslan replied quickly to a request to fix our shattered window. He came the same day to do measurements and the next to install the new glass. He was very communicative, polite, reasonably priced and efficient. I would call him again in the future if the need should arise. Thanks again Ruslan!

Bryan was hired to install an outlet to existing W/D wiring. When he arrived and analyzed the wiring, he immediately recognized wiring errors done by our previous "electrician". He explained in detail what needed to be done in order for our washer and dryer to operate effectively, safely, according to code, and how long the job would take (1 1/2 - 2 hours). He finished on time, and checked his work to ensure everything was working properly. He also did troubleshooting for an outlet that was not working properly. He fixed the problem, and also installed the power cord to my dryer. Although I hired him for a smaller job with a smaller fee, I think the rate he charged was fair. He even offered to clean afterwards. Bryan is officially our electrician, and I will recommend B&L Fast Wire Electric to my friends and family! I am happy with his work!

He responded to my inquiry quickly and offered an unbeatable price. We needed Abe to install two in-window AC units, and he was able to come the very next day, which was great considering the recent 90 degree heat wave. I was away for the weekend, so I asked him to coordinate with my roommate. When I returned, my unit was installed perfectly, which is such a relief because living on the top floor of a sixth floor walk-up, I was nervous about installing it myself or hiring someone without experience obviously due to the liability. We trusted Abe and he did not disappoint! My roommate also sung his praises when I returned and asked how it went - said he was extremely nice and when asked if he needed help said no and then installed the units efficiently. We definitely recommend hiring him 100% - thanks Abe!

We needed a plumbing repair late Sunday afternoon at my parents home (60 year old house with original copper plumbing). They had found water on the floor of their finished basement. It was not gushing, but a steady drip. We shut off the water to the house. Matt responded quickly through Thumbtack, and was at the house within a couple hours. It was a cracked fitting, which he repaired. Price was reasonable, he was professional and we will use him again. He also called the next day for follow-up.

Pete came and put up the microwave at the same time I had Joe's electrical (from Thumbtack) to install a microwave. HE did the job quickly. When he left I noticed the cabinet next to it where the outlet was installed could no longer close. He came back in a few days and changed the hinges to the other side and all is well. WIll definitely use him again for other odds and ends I need around the place.

My attic stairs broke and it made more sense to replace the entire unit than to attempt a replace. I purchased the replacement unit, but did not want to attempt the install myself. Chris was able to quickly remove the old unit, and install the new pull down attic stairs in less than 2 hours. He was easy to communicate with and on-time. I would defiantly use him again.

Expert repair and customer service. I was lucky to find them on Thumbtack when our Washing Machine stopped draining. We were contacted promptly, given a fair estimate and scheduled an appointment. Moises came, diagnosed the problem right away and ordered the part right in front of my eyes. We made an appointment for a few days later when the part arrived for him to come back and install it. I'm happy to say our Washing Machine is working once again and our family has found a nice, reliable appliance repair service with exceptional customer service. We not only recommend, but we will definitely be repeat customers.

Darrio called me as soon as I posted an ad indicating I needed help with heavy lifting and assembling of a furniture piece and moving some heavy furniture in my apartment. He asked when I needed the job done and arranged to come at the time I requested. He and a coworker arrived on time and did the work perfectly. They actually noticed a chair needed repair and repaired it. He and his coworker were very nice and polite and the price was quite reasonable. I would definitely use his services again to help with repairs, heavy lifting or moving of objects again.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much does refrigerator repair cost?

Refrigerator repair generally costs a fraction of the price of a new fridge and shouldhave your appliance up and running again in no time. The problems your refrigerator is experiencing and the parts required to fix it will affect your repair costs. Where you live can affect labor rates, which will raise or lower your costs. Here are some examples of average costs:

  • Diagnostic fees: $50-$100. Repair pros often have a service call fee or diagnostic fee to account for their time traveling to your location with all their tools to assess the problem. If you choose to have them repair the fridge, most pros then credit this fee toward your repair cost.
  • Parts: $20-$500. A new compressor averages $200, an icemaker $300, and computerized components such as touch screens and control boards average $300 or more.
  • Basic repairs: $180-$400, including parts. This price range can include repairing the evaporator or fan motor.

How long do fridges last?

Refrigerators can last 10 to 20 years, although the most common lifespan is about 13 years. If your fridge is acting up, consider its current age when deciding whether to invest in repairs or buy a new one. Common easy fixes include faulty thermostats, dirty coils and clogged drain lines. Thermostats and dirty coils can be generally be fixed for an average cost of $80-$100. Clogged drain lines, which usually cause leaks, can often be fixed for under $200.

More complex refrigeration repairs such as replacing a bad compressor or replenishing low refrigerant can cost more because of expensive parts and higher labor. A new compressor costs an average of $200, not including labor. If labor is an average of $75-$100 per hour, and the repair takes 3 hours, you’re looking at roughly $500. Consider the age and purchase cost of your fridge; investing $350 in a $600 fridge that is 8 years old may not be cost-effective.
