About

Freddie is the man! Super patient and extremely knowledgeable not only as a vocal coach but also as a singer and musician. He truly wants his students to reach their full potential and also provides great tips/techniques along the way to ensure longevity in a singing career. I've never taken lessons before and he has been extremely encouraging, honest, and upfront. I highly recommend using him and you definitely won't find a better price for the A+ service he provides!

About

Working with Gwin has been an amazing experience! This is my first time ever working with a vocal coach and taking music lessons. I am 100% pleased with her professionalism, ability to motivate, flexibility, and her talent to pull my own creativity out that I did not know existed. These lessons have been surprisingly affordable. But most importantly I'm impressed with the results she has produced. I would highly recommend Gwin and her musicality.

My name is Jayant and i am a bass player from New delhi, India.I have had a really really good learning experience with Sharik and much of my music study has been with him I have been studying with Sharik over the course of 2 years now and i have had private lessons as well as electives/ensemble lessons at the Global Music Institute in New Delhi with him. . He is a great teacher and has a very practical approach towards teaching so you end up understanding how to use things in real situation. The ensemble sessions were a lot of fun as well, alot was stressed on playing in a band, making music and doing your job really well and how to use all the concepts studied in the classroom, specially stuff related to grooves and improvisation. Also, the transcription techniques were taught really well and the lesson was divided well to incorporate to listen to some music as well.In all i have had a great time learning from him and i highly recommend Sharik as a teacher.

Jean-Pierre is an incredibly gifted pianist, but more importantly, he is a gifted teacher. I've learned more in 2 years with him than I learned in 10 years of lessons previously. He is good with children, adult beginners and experienced adults alike. I have learned so much from him -- about technique, about the structure of pieces, about practicing technique, about facing and tackling performance. If you are on the fence -- you shouldn't be, find a way to have a lesson!

About

Bourque is a wonderful vocal teacher. She is kind, patient, and admirable. She made me feel comfortable from the first day I took lessons. She teaches great technique and guides you through it every step of the way. She also gives constructive criticism but is yet non-judgmental. I personally feel I am growing musically and am finding confidence in my voice. Bourque has found my weaknesses and has helped me turned them into strengths, which I didn’t realize that I had within.

I have been taking beginner classical guitar lessons with Ian for about 5 months and couldn't be happier. Ian is talented, patient, and kind. He has provided a great mix of scales/chords/exercises and real music, which has helped me stay engaged even while learning the basics. He has also bent over backward to accommodate my work schedule and just generally cares a lot about his students.

Recently, I hired Anahid as my piano teacher via thumbtack.com. I appreciated her prompt, clear and direct reply to my inquiry for a piano teacher. Anahid is a friendly person and a talented pianist. I am an adult beginner who has only had lessons as a child. Through the lessons that I’ve had thus far with Anahid, I am realizing that I’m learning so much more than I had from my childhood piano teacher. I’m learning more than just how to read the notes – Anahid teaches me how to make the music sound beautiful and she shows me how I can read this information in the music. Additionally, Anahid understands that adults may be motivated by different musical choices than a child, which can make the lessons more satisfying. Anahid also offers a very flexible schedule which is perfect for an adult who works full time but also wants to learn piano. I am able to take lessons in the evening, sometimes even as late as 8:15pm, which allows me to leave the office without rushing to finish my work so I can get to my lesson and be calm and un-harried. This could even help provide an extra half hour of practice time just before the lesson, which is great! My lessons are conveniently located in midtown at her studio. Overall, I am very happy with my choice. I am looking forward to growing my piano skills with Anahid as my teacher.

This review is in regard to Illya's wife and VIOLIN teacher, Katha Zinn. Very humbly, Illya sent me a message about Katha. She is currently an active performer and soloist which speaks to her level of success. She was educated at Juilliard (undergrad) and the Mannes School (master's). Her ability to gain entry into such institutions speaks volumes and caught my eye from the very beginning. However, that is not what keeps me coming! Illya promised me quality instruction. I am a psychiatrist and ex-teacher who played very actively during my youth. I never felt like I reached my true potential. Four months prior to taking lessons, I had another fabulous teacher in Boston. I needed someone who I believed could bring me to the top. After meeting Katha on the first day, I knew that she could do just that. First and foremost, she is an amazing person. I felt very comfortable from the very beginning. I was greeted with a warm smile. I am normally VERY anxious, yet I do not recall ever feeling like that in her presence. I felt very COMFORTABLE. In her presence, I always feel like making mistakes is OKAY because of her very non-judgemental manner. I mean, here is this AMAZINGLY-trained professional who is making time to get me to the next level. Who wouldn't want that? I must say that her sound is AWESOME. When I listened to her Bach clip online, her vibrato "had me at hello" (sorry for the corny Jerry Macguire reference LOL). I knew that I wanted to sound just like that. My tense fingers never allowed me to develop a good vibrato over the years. We worked on that from day one and within a week, it was 100% better. Even with other things like bowing, tone, etc, it is almost like a masterclass every week. If you really take her suggestions and apply what she teaches, I GUARANTEE that you will improve 1000-fold. I am proof of that. She has a very scientific approach to determining the pathology of my challenges and values my thoughts in developing a good plan for success. Her suggestions, unlike many other experiences in the past, MAKE COMPLETE SENSE in the way my brain works. :) In addition to these things, I was able to---from the very beginning---discuss with her my wish list of dream pieces. Although some pieces may be a stretch at this time, she encouraged my aspirations and is helping me find the most effective and efficient way to accomplish my goals. Never once did I think I would be able to get to the Bruch and Mendelssohn so quickly. Now I realize that between my dedication and her patience and skillful ways of teaching that I can actually do much more than that. I HIGHLY recommend Katha. I leave inspired every week even when I do not feel like I did my best work. Because I appreciate her presence and support in my life, she makes me motivated to keep working hard without ever having to ask me to do so. I am in love with music once again. I can say with complete confidence that over the past months, my life has changed dramatically. I even went back to orchestra as a result! Lastly, her husband (and musical partner) plays the piano. The icing on the cake is that if you need to practice with accompaniment, that can also be arranged as there is a piano in the studio. Not just any pianist, but a very accomplished one at that. :) Oh, there is one more thing. Katha can play anything, but she is really into Bach as well as "new music." It is refreshing to work with someone who can go from baroque as well as stay current (and perform) new works by contemporary composers. Where else can you find all of these things? The answer: Brooklyn, NY under the instruction of Katha Zinn. The money I spend on lessons is the ONLY bill I don't fuss about and also take great pleasure in going to the ATM before my lessons. HAHA! Thanks to Illya for making the connection. Because you believe so strongly in your wife, you have created space in this universe to change the lives of others! I owe you one! :)

Guitar lessons with Sam are the highlight of my week! Sam's deep passion for music is infectious in his lessons. He has the special gift of helping his students feel the same excitement he feels about music. As his student, I felt his support from the first note I played on guitar. He is one of the most positive people I have ever met and helps me embrace the challenges of learning a new instrument, rather than fear them. He breaks down concepts so that they are easy to understand and makes learning guitar extremely fun. When I leave a lesson with Sam, I am inspired to practice for hours, not because he asked me to, but because of the excitement he passed on to me in our lessons. I feel so lucky to have him as my teacher and do not want to imagine studying with anyone else!! (In addition to being an incredible music educator, Sam is also an amazing performer. Watching him play at concerts further inspires his students to want to practice. He is the real deal and carries out what he teaches in his own life. He is a great role model.)

I engaged Admed to teach yoga to a group of girls of varying yoga experience as part of a weekend long bachelorette party, and Ahmed could not have been a more perfect fit! Ahmed was respectful and professional. We loved how his yoga teaching incorporated the occasion (a bride to be) and appeared to be flexible enough to react fluidly and effortlessly to what he observed from our practice (i.e., if something looked too challenging, modifying it, or if something went well, growing on that) and environment (a rooftop outdoors with short yoga mats provided by the building). We all enjoyed ourselves and felt like we had a very meaningful mind-body experience. Truly, the girls gushed about what a wonderful experience our yoga session was because of Ahmed. We all wholeheartedly recommend him as a yoga instructor.

WOW! I can’t say enough about this ridiculously talented yoga instructor. Being a novice to the world of yoga can be intimidating, but Alex helped me feel at ease, fully committing herself to the lesson. Her wide breadth of knowledge is refreshing, and something I haven’t come across in any of my other yoga experiences. She helps you understand what every pose is specifically designed to do, allowing you to feel comfortable and relaxed. This left me with a sense of accomplishment. I highly recommend Alex as an instructor. Life Changing!

I love Dallin so much!!! We have only had two lessons so far but I have learned so much already. She really cares about your growth with the piano and one of my favorite things about her is that she gives homework. She is amazing and I look forward to her class every week!!

Ryan was awesome. I proposed to my girlfriend on the roof of our apartment building. Ryan was there early to set up to make sure there were no issues. He was flexible on the location, song list, etc. He nailed the song as I proposed and then played great background music all night long in the genre that I specifically asked for and everyone commented was a magical touch to the night. It was exactly what I was hoping it would be. I would definitely recommend anyone to use him.
