Gloria has been such a great tutor. She has truly been a blessing! Gloria created lessons based on my needs, tailoring each class around what I wanted out of the class. She's patient, encouraging and pleasant to learn from. We formed a nice bond and I always look forward to our lessons. I began with no Spanish skills and in just a few months I feel like an intermediate. All I have is rave reviews and highly recommend her as a Spanish tutor!!

Beatrice es un fabulosa profesora! she tailors her lessons to individual needs and abilities, is patient throughout, and extremely helpful even outside of class times. Beatrice speaks to me in Spanish throughout the lesson (which is extremely helpful), and is super helpful outside of class to if I have questions, etc... By enlarge, we are extreme happy with the tutoring service they provided. Specifically Ms Chua, who is the only tutor we have dealt with. She is knowledgeable, responsible and encouraging. She is flexible and alters her approach based on either the topic at hand or our teen boy's emotions as relates to the work. We couldn't be happier with her. I would give them 5 stars except the app can be buggy and drop the audio or can be slow sending data. On the other hand, the logistics of tutoring online is very convenient, saving a lot of commuting time.

He is great at helping one learn real conversational Spanish. He is patient and a real professional. He is really flexible when it comes to scheduling and he's always on time. Overall, he's a super teacher and a very nice person.

I’d like to validate Connor’s excellent method of teaching English. He is able to work with different types of resources which are interesting and relevant. He can explain a subject in a clear, straightforward manner when a non native English speaker (like me) struggle to use expressions from everyday life; not only expressions but also other more advanced subjects of grammar as well. Connor’s classes are dynamic, informative, and you always end up learning something. I recommend Connor as an English teacher for everybody, no matter the level of English; he will guide you all the way until you get it right.

I’ve only been meeting with Humberto about a month but it’s been very helpful to keep my Spanish learning going. Lessons are a mix of conversation, vocabulary/passage work, and grammar work. I had previously taken classes but I’ve appreciated the flexibility of being able to schedule a time that works best for me each week. The near grand central location is also very convenient.

Gayle was terrific: accommodating, clear and got me a great Italian teacher. Gayle was also responsive and met me quickly and hooked me up with Alexa Atkins, the tutor, almost immediately. I'm glad to be doing this....that said, Thumbtack needs to stop sending so many emails -- very annoying and I've asked twice for Thumback to unsubscribe me.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What does a Spanish tutor do?

The goal of a Spanish tutor is to help students improve their Spanish reading, writing, comprehension, and conversation skills. The tutor’s approaches may vary, depending on whether the instruction is individual or a group class. Many Spanish tutors practice immersion — meaning they will speak only Spanish with their pupils. For students with little to no Spanish experience, the Spanish tutor may use a mix of Spanish and English to accustom their students to speaking the language.

A Spanish tutor can offer a wide range of services to their students. For students currently enrolled in a Spanish class through their middle school or high school, a Spanish tutor can help them with homework and language practice, as well as expanding their understanding of their current school curriculum. For adults, Spanish tutors will have different approaches based on that student’s need. Academics and those seeking high-level professional development for their career will often have more intensive and targeted lessons, drills, and interactive speaking tests. For adults who wish to learn conversational Spanish for fun or for travel, lessons may revolve around learning commonly used phrases and practicing speaking in relaxed settings.

How much do Spanish tutors charge?

Nationally, the average cost for a Spanish tutor ranges from $30 to $40 per hour. The cost for a Spanish tutor can vary depending on whether you choose private instruction or group lessons. Geographic location can affect cost; tutors in expensive cities and pricier regions command higher rates than in rural areas and small towns. The experience and education of the Spanish tutor will also affect their rates. For adult education, many people learning Spanish choose to join a Spanish school with tutors who teach group classes and also offer private tutoring for students. Typically these schools charge a monthly tuition that gives students access to a set number of classes per week, with private tutoring available at an additional cost. One example of an average cost is a monthly tuition of $200, which includes five 90-minute group lessons per month. Monthly tuition can vary depending on the school and the teachers. Short-term workshops are also a way to learn Spanish. Students may work with a Spanish tutor and group of other students at their skill level for a short period of time. One example of an average price is $100 for an eight-week course, with one 60-minute group class per week.
