After posting my (unorthodox) request to Thumbtack, I received a call from Chris within minutes. He presented himself professionally and personable, two things that were important to me due to the nature of the event - a surprise wedding. It was a small affair with 8 people (including Chris) where the groom was completely unaware he was about to get a wedding ceremony and reception put together by his friends (the couple was already married, but did so in a different state on short notice of being engaged so no local friends were able to make it to the wedding, hence a surprise wedding with his closest and local friends). Chris took quick to making great suggestions for the event and worked with us to make sure we captured each moment beautifully. He came prepared, on time, in appropriate attire, with expertise, and a smile. He clearly loves his work, and it shows in the product. Due to the intimate nature of the event, Chris integrated well with the small but diverse group of people, being chatty and comfortable but on point and out of the way when appropriate. He was also knowledgeable and knew important aspects of New York law regarding lighting and standing tripod lights. This kept us from getting in any legal trouble while at the public park in DUMBO, Brooklyn. Chris was also willing to work with us with regard to operating my DSLR camera mounted on a tripod to capture video as he went around taking photos. Editing, delivery, and response time. Chris was able to get back to me most often within minutes of any request, always quick with a confirmation and didn't pester me with constant contact. The turnaround time was fantastic, ten (10) days after the event we have the photos edited and delivered in full, this is also during a holiday weekend. Very impressed with the turnaround given both the holiday and the time of year, I expect he was busy with other clients as well as us. All summed up, positive experience, beautiful photos, professionally presented, no issues with delivery or "holding photos hostage for a higher fee", appropriately priced, and made us all very happy with our decision to hire Chris Waggoner, highly recommend!

We hired Leibman Productions for our daughter's Bat Mitzvah. We were looking for a reliable and creative videographer who would capture the moments most important to us. Andrew covered the event from start to finish and also provided a comprehensive highlight video. The video work was professionally shot and recorded along with music, speeches and voice overs. We also needed a music montage of photos and video created close and they helped us tremendously at the last minute. Thank you Leibman Productions, we appreciate all your time and efforts with this very special family occasion.

I asked Thumbtack for videography for a wedding and Crisitian was the first to reply with the cheapest offer. He also included a lot of service for the price he asked. We were sceptical at first because we never hired videographer before and know nothing about it but Cristian reassured us that everything will be perfect and we had nothing to worry about. He was very easy to communicate with, very responsive and polite. He contacted me few days prior the event to talk out last minute details. On the day, he arrived even earlier what made me feel less nervous on my big day. It was so easy to work with him, he made me understand that he is true proffesional in the work he does. I was wondering what I had to do for the video but Cristian explaied to me crealrly and showed examples which also made it easier for us. Cristian also had no problem staying longer for the event. I love his work, style and the fact that he usues most recent and best quality equipment necessery for best photogrpahy and videography. The best part is that we do not have to wait long to recieve pictures and video! As we are all so excited to see them, Cristian had couple of them ready the next day! I had a lot of complements and good comments about the photos Cristian made! I will absolutely hire his again and again for my future events and will recommend him to anyone who is looking for great quality, friendly open environemt in communication and inexpensive ! Thank you so so much! You trully made our day easier, I did not have to worry about anything and because of your work we have such great captured moments for the rest of our lives ! Thank you again! Best, Anna and David October 2016.

GetMeOnTop: These Guys Deserve the Title of being Manhattan #1 SEO Firm! I'm so over-involved with day-to-day tasks when controlling my business, I'm left with no time to really get out there and do any of my own marketing. Even worse than that is that I have a heck of a time trying to stay on top of the newest Web marketing strategies. I knew people who were having super success with online video marketing, but I was not in a position to research the possibilities for myself. I figured I would outsource the task to a company that could make a video for me, but then I feared that I might have to pay astronomical prices for the service. Luckily, I have a few people that I associate with in my industry that knew of GetMeOnTop SEO and the video making services that they have. Getting GetMeOnTop to make a video for me and promote it was amazingly simple and extremely cost effective. A phone call from their website was all it took to get the ball rolling. I had nightmares thinking about the advertising costs and cringed at the thought of discussing it with anyone. When I found out that the video could be promoted online and could even show on Google in #1 ranking position for such a reasonable amount I almost fell over backwards! They streamlined the process, had my video created super fast, and professionally and now I've got a great looking video on my website that is showing up in all the top leading search engines like MSN, Google, and Yahoo! It's even coming up in other search engines like Ask.com and Bing and AOL too. I owe it all to GetMeOnTop: these guys deserve the title of being Manhattan #1 SEO Firm.

I requisitioned Ed after seeing his skill behind the camera for a somewhat impromptu photo and video shoot at the boardwalk of Coney Island in Brooklyn, NY. He'd done some work for me before (album covers, photo shoots, advisements on video projects, etc) so I thought I knew what to expect, but Ed is an ever evolving and constantly changing professional. He experiments with different styles all the time and always comes to the shoot/project with more than just a few new ideas. Though Ed is an expert in his own right, he doesn't try to silence the creative processes of the subject. He's a creative type himself, so I expect that he understands the plight of the creative that goes unheard. Granted, I'm not a creative type, so I had almost nothing to bring to the table. In a situation like that, Ed takes over and makes you feel comfortable. I would recommend Ed's videography, photography and consultation skills to anyone that needs a project done, be it a wedding, a music video, a photo shoot or any other project that would require creativity, common sense, problem solving and passion. That's one thing Ed brings to every work site: passion. You won't be disappointed, that I can assure you.

Brandon is an amazing camera man, there isn’t a single doubt about that. The minute he started recording it was like we were completely in sync. He knew exactly what I wanted, and was able to come up with ideas and solutions to bring forth my vision in the best possible way! It was easy to tell he had years of expertise at his fingertips, and in comparison I probably looked like I had none; but he still treated me with respect and made it clear that I was always the one in charge which I really appreciated. Brandon went above and beyond expectation during filming and I couldn’t thank him enough for such a wonderful experience! I truly believe there was not a single other person I’d rather have behind the camera. It was during the video editing however, that I ran into a few issues. Trying to get him to talk to me about anything felt a bit like pulling teeth; but perhaps that’s just because I’m the chatty type and he’s more of a man of few words. (Which I can understand!) Regardless it was extremely difficult to get him to respond with any type of communication, which resulted in many set backs, delays, and nights of frustration. I often felt completely ignored and brushed off for “more important” clients seeing as how despite working with him first, he finished many other projects before getting back to me on mine. It also made me feel very hesitant to give my opinion on any changes I felt needed to take place, in fear of coming off as a nuisance. That being said, the end results made all the earlier trouble worth it! I can fully admit I wasn’t the easiest client to please, (pretty much a complete perfectionist!) but Brandon made sure to keep going until I was completely happy with the finished product. The journey may have been rocky, but in the end he did hold true to his word and made sure to deliver absolute perfection! He did an extraordinary job and I couldn't be more thrilled on how it all turned out. I highly recommend him to anyone looking for a camera man, as his skill are unparalleled! And you will definitely be left with something you can be proud of and watch again and again for years to come. :)

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
