West End helped film a music video for me. They were extremely helpful in all ends of production. Very knowledgeable and easy to work with. Not to mention I got a very generous price for hours of green screen work. I have no complaints, and I plan to work with them again.

I hired Lorray Digital Media Group to film and produce several videos for my life coaching business and online courses. Ray Lombardi exceeded my expectations. He was on time, efficient, friendly, and turned around my videos quickly. His studio was clean, spacious, easy to get to, and there was plenty of parking. I will use Lorray again in the future. I was beyond satisfied with his service.

I recently booked Bin Song to capture the moment I proposed to my girlfriend. I had heard this was a trend and wanted to find the right photographer. I found Bin Song’s website and saw she had experience shooting marriage proposals. She was extremely helpful. We discussed the location (Rockefeller Center) and what the best time to be there was for lighting, and what angle I should be in for the best background (I felt like an actor talking to the director on a movie set, it was so cool). She explained that in order to get the best natural shot, my girlfriend could not know she was there - so it was important for me to be in the right place at the right time for the perfect photos. After I proposed and she said “yes”, Bin Song came over to congratulate us and take some portrait photos as a new couple to compliment the proposal ones she had just taken. Her photos were beautiful, catching the total look of surprise and happiness on my fiancee’s face; and, with the ice rink and statue at Rockefeller Center in the background, it looked like something out of a magazine. Bin Song did everything I requested. Before and after photos of the proposal, along with a video of the proposal itself. I would definitely book her again… and have her shoot our wedding.

A few weeks ago I hired Luc to film one of my training classes for Real Estate Agents in Brooklyn. Luc was professional from start to finish. On time, never rushed, blended into the crowd, and the quality of the final product was fantastic. I asked Luc to make several small clips of a few minutes each and he knew exactly what to do. I have already hired Luc for two more projects. Want more details? Please feel free to contact me at inkowdoug@gmail.com or call me at 646-529-2560. Doug Vairo

I'm in San Diego and needed a doctor's interview filmed in the NYC area, and for the videographer to also direct and handle (on his own), the interview with 9 or so questions provided. I choose Mayer because he is professional, thorough, and most important, an experienced videographer - all important when filming a professional like a doctor. Mayer's footage was exactly what I needed to edit with, and he was patient and helpful when filming the doctor. In fact, I've just hired him again, to film another Doctor's interview in the NYC area!

Andrew is a quality film maker who has excellent transitions, a quality camera, and unique ideas to bring the whole production together. During our wedding, he was a true professional and was able to capture the special moments that were staged and candid as well. Our highlight video was incredible and felt like a trailer for some love story movie. Would recommend him for your event anytime. 5 stars.

Cristian and his team provided amazing photography and video services for our wedding. We were pleasantly surprised that he was able to give us a few select pics the same night of our wedding so we could share with our family and friends. The videos and pics were very artistic and captured our special day beautifully! And the presentation of the final package of videos and pics was top notch. I would highly recommend Cine Marvel Films. -Sheila Brooklyn, NY

David was recommended to us by our wedding photographer to film and create our wedding highlight reel and needless to say, he was nothing short of amazing. Very laid back and easing going, he was very easy to work with. It felt natural having him there; almost as if he blended into the background despite all his video gear. In the beginning, we were skeptical about wedding videographers, but after seeing our highlight reel, we absolutely had no regrets hiring one and was very happy with the finished product. We recommend David for all your videography needs!

I don't know where to start. Everything was GREAT. He took my project on extremely short notice. I contacted him about creating a highlight reel for my son's football season. He walked me through every step as far as his equipment, quality of film etc and explained everything in GREAT detail... This guy really knows his craft. MJRvisuals is a top notch company, and my family and I have decided to contract them for my sons next 4 football games. The most rewarding part, was when my son saw the DRAFT of what Malcholm had created. Signed...one very satisfied, proud DAD. THANKS MJRvisuals!!!!!!! See you Saturday!!!!!!! DonB

I couldn't be happier with my product from Beverly Boy Productions! They went over the limits and delivered a commercial for my product that I don't I will ever be able to repay them for. Working with them was very easy and although it was slightly more pricey than my other option I know I made the right choice merely by looking at the crisp, clean, professionalism aspects of my commercial.

Joel is an excellent all round resource - shooting, editing and general post-production. I've got 20 years of high end film post-production experience and Joel stands out as a one-man go-to that stands up to the high end houses. I've seen his work with colleagues before I booked him - but was totally blown away by his commitment, good humour and dedication to making sure I was totally happy. I can say hand on heart I never for a second thought I'd get something of this quality so quickly and so painlessly. His work is well above many people charging 4 times the price. Book him now before everyone realises what a gem he is and his rates go up.

Solo's work is on a completely different level compared to most wedding videographers out there. I'm an amateur videographer, so when I started to look for videographers - I had to find someone who could do a better job than I could ever do myself. Video is a number one priority for me, so when I saw Solo's videos - I knew I could trust him 100% and that I didn't have to do anything but to book him for our wedding. Solo is a true professional - I still can't believe the level of the quality of work he's done for us considering how hectic our wedding was. He made the most out of what he could work with and created a masterpiece that truly reflects our personalities and the atmosphere of the wedding. It was an honor to have him film our wedding, because he didn't just make a video, he created a work of art that my wife and I are honored to be featured in and will cherish forever.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

What is a videographer and what do they do?

A videographer professionally films weddings and other events and edits the footage to create film keepsakes or marketing materials for their clients. Wedding videographers record all the key elements of your wedding day, ceremony and reception, and then edit the hours of film during post-production to make a wedding video, social media highlight reels, and any other film features you choose. Wedding videography captures, in live action, your vows, the cake-cutting, the first dance, reception toasts, the decor, the guests and all the details of your day. Many wedding videographers also interview guests (based on an interview list provided by the couple) and incorporate the recorded responses into the wedding video. Event videography typically costs less than wedding videography, as events are shorter with less detail. The national average cost for event videography is $500-$760, while the national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. A videographer usually does not need to be licensed, but it is important to confirm they have insurance and good standing in the business community, as well as good client reviews. A great majority of the work happens during post-production. The pros watch and blend together the hours of footage they took (sometimes from multiple cameras) to capture the story of your wedding day or event.

How do you choose a wedding videographer?

A wedding videographer will create a lifetime memory for you from edited video footage of your wedding day, ceremony and reception. Choosing a wedding videographer starts with looking online at portfolios of their past work. There’s no need to talk to anyone unless you love what you see. Next, make sure they have good reviews and past client experience; don’t be shy about asking for references if there aren’t any posted online. When you find someone who has a style you love, ask if they are available on your wedding day. If so, it’s time to talk pricing. Be clear about your maximum budget, and ask what kind of packages they offer. Pricing will depend on the number of crew needed for filming, the hours they are required to be onsite, post-production editing, and the length of the final product. Talk with several wedding videographers to get a feel for what prices are like in your region. Nationally, the average cost for wedding videography ranges between $990 and $1,260 per event. Once you agree on a product and have a plan, get everything in a written and signed contract. Clearly state the details of what is expected for your wedding day and from the final product. Be prepared to pay a deposit to reserve their services for the day, then pay the remainder upon receiving the video.

What should you ask your wedding videographer before hiring?

Finding the perfect wedding videographer doesn’t have to be stressful. Asking a few key questions upfront will help you find the right fit for your big day. Before talking with wedding videographers, research their work online. Look at their websites, business profiles and social media, and see what their finished wedding videos look like. If the style fits what you’re envisioning, it’s time to reach out. During initial contact, make sure you get along with the person. This is important since they’ll be interacting with you and your guests.

Your first question should be about their availability; there’s no point in going further if they’re booked on your wedding day. Ask to see references if they’re not readily available online. Next, it’s time to talk about money. Ask how they determine rates or what kind of packages they offer. When you settle on a rate and the services you want, make sure to have a written contract that outlines everything, including cost, length of time they film, what post-production will include, and when you can expect to receive the edited project.

When do you pay your wedding videographer and wedding photographer?

Most wedding videographers and photographers require a set deposit when you hire them. Wedding season is a busy time and a deposit secures that vendor’s services for your wedding date. It also protects the vendor if the couple changes their mind at the last minute, and they can’t find a new booking and lose work for the day. The deposit may be anywhere from 20 percent to  50 percent of the agreed-upon total price. Always get a written confirmation that your deposit has been received.

The remainder of the wedding videography and photography bill may be due in the week before to your wedding or on the day of the wedding. Other vendors may require a second payment immediately before the wedding and a third and final payment after the wedding video or photos are delivered. Each vendor has their own policies, so before hiring be sure to read, understand and agree to payment protocols. There is no requirement for tipping wedding videographers or photographers, but if you do want to tip them, the end of the reception is the appropriate time.

How much is videography for a wedding?

Wedding videography is one thing many couples regret not paying for. It may seem like just another expense during wedding planning, but it’s really special to have a moving memory of your big day. The national average cost for wedding videography is $990-$1,260. Pricing can vary depending on wedding length, special film features, the amount of editing required, and how many videographers are needed to cover the event. Many videographers offer packages that provide different levels of service. A very simple wedding documentary could be $600 or more, while a full-scale cinematic experience involving multiple videographers could be $2,500 or more. Here’s an example of average package pricing:

  • Package 1: $1,400
    • Footage during and after the ceremony, including highlights requested by the couple.
    • Two cameras with audio equipment.
    • DVD including a 3- or 4-minute edit to a song of the couple’s choice and a 45- to 50-minute raw edit covering the entire event.
    • Recordings of guests’ good wishes to the couple.
  • Package 2: $1,800
    • Includes everything from Package 1, plus an additional videographer (2 total) and aerial videography.
Hire skilled professionals for absolutely everything.
