Chris installed a fence for us in our backyard. We couldn't be more pleased. The price was right, quality work was done, and he updated us frequently on the status of the work and made sure we were happy with everything prior to work being completed. We are extremely happy with the work done. Will be calling him to take care of trees in our backyard as well!

Javier repaired the gate on my vinyl fence which needed a new slat. He did a fantastic job. The area he repaired looks just as good as it did before it became damaged. His communication with me was also better than expected. His price was very fair. I plan on hiring him again and will do so with complete confidence.

Took down eight 6-ft tall stockade fence panels, removed and placed leaning posts, and re-hung panels, for $500. Other companies either wanted $800 to $1,100 for the same work or were only willing to install a completely new fence for even more money.

I am very thankful for the tips Barry provided while cleaning my pool, prior to this I had no prior experience with maintaining an inground pool. His pricing is fair and he was very flexible with scheduling etc. The pool went from a foggy, leafy mess to beautiful and sparkling all within a couple hours! :)

Project: Install a Wood Fence I contacted 4 fencing cost for estimates. Jon contacted me promptly and set up a time to come by. We walked my property and I told him my idea. He pointed out a few things and I revised my plans according to his suggestions. The other two fencing companies (1 never responded) did not offer any suggestions and quoted on my original plan. Prices were comparable ($200 difference) but with Jon I felt comfortable knowing the project would done on time. work was scheduled within a day, Finished on time, fence looks great, dogs LOVE IT. Jon came by to make sure I was happy, I am! Thank you!

We had a new roof, gutters, a fence and some other small home maintenance work done. The craftsmanship of all of the work, especially the roof, was superbly done. It's a colonial with particular edges which required hand made solutions to bring it back to its natural glory and that is exactly what was done. We were clients and sometimes students, as time was taken to explain the process, materials being used, alternate solutions etc to ensure that we were comfortable with the job. We would and we have recommended All Remodeling and Construction to others.

First of all, please learn how to cut trees. Just because you have a truck and a grinder and a bunch of chainsaws doesn't make you a tree expert. First off, I requested a certificate of insurance and after the job was stopped due to an unfortunate accident (I will explain)I asked them for their insurance and they informed me they didn't have it. Luckily no one was hurt, but according to people that I have talked to and have seen pictures and videos of the event, I was very lucky. They came in and began by cutting one of the largest trees (they were hired to cut 5 in total). That big one was about 40 feet from our house and they cut it by first cutting a wedge in the front and them cutting behind the wedge. It fell without incident. The second was pretty much the same, but it did come closer to our house. I just thought "wow these guys know what they are doing." The third one was close to our house so they tied a rope to the top of the tree, hoping to pull it in the direction they wanted it to fall using their truck to pull it with the ropes since it was leaning toward our house. When they started cutting it, using the same wedge method and not cutting from the top and lowering pieces, I was looking on in wonder. I was amazed that they knew what they were doing. This wonderment turned to shock when I saw the tree falling in the direction of our neighbor's house. It destroyed his shed and fence. Luckily their was no one outside and that it did not drop in any other direction because it would have destroyed either house. Mind you, if it would have fallen a few degrees to one side of the other it probably would not have mattered. But their method had it falling a full 90 degrees off their intended drop and caused extensive property damage. I would not use these people to cut my grass, let alone a tree on your property. They lied about their insurance coverage (which is illegal) and they could have caused so much more damage due to their inexperience and poor workmanship. Don't use these guys.

Greenwood Robinson did a complete makeover for our 20X50 backyard in Brooklyn, including fencing and tree removal and with no direct access. Sam was extremely creative and innovative throughout the entire process. He had a great team as well, that we enjoyed working with. They followed through on time commitments and communicated well regarding any changes required. We highly recommend Greenwood Robinson. You will not be disappointed.

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How much is a redwood fence per foot?

A redwood fence is a long-lasting home investment that can add beauty and major curb appeal to your home. Redwood fence installation costs are higher than those for pressure-treated pine or cedar, due to the relative scarcity of the wood. Pricing can vary for redwood fence installation costs based on regional labor rates, current prices of redwood planks, the height and linear feet of the fence, and any custom designs or features. Redwood fences, in addition to being beautiful, are naturally more resistant against bugs and rot than less hardy or dense woods. Redwood fences also generally fare well in wet or humid climates due to their natural oils — which also make them easier to maintain. Materials costs per linear foot for redwood planks can range anywhere from $6 to $20 or more, depending on grade, quality and height.

How much does it cost to put up a chain-link fence?

Chain-link fence is one of the most affordable options for adding safety and value to your home or business. The national average chain-link fence installation cost is $2,750. Chain-link fences are relatively simple for the pros to install; a fence of less than 150 linear feet can often be put up in under one day. A good rule of thumb is to add an additional workday for each additional 100 linear feet of fence to be installed.

Chain-link fence installation costs are affected by the fluctuating cost of steel, regional labor rates, the height of fence you select, and the features you select, such as a powder-coated finish. The industry standard is galvanized steel, which is rust- and corrosion-resistant. Galvanized chain-link fence installation cost, including labor and materials, is typically $12 per linear foot. For a more contemporary and elegant option, black powder-coated galvanized chain-link fence might cost approximately $15 per linear foot on average, including materials and labor. For industrial sites or businesses, 10-foot-high galvanized chain-link fences may provide additional security, but also have an added cost. A 10-foot-high chain-link fence could cost $17-$18 per linear foot, including labor and materials.

How much does it cost to install a vinyl fence?

A new fence can mean added home value, increased curb appeal, and improved home security. The national average vinyl fence installation cost is $4,600. Vinyl fences have a number of appealing qualities such as their durability, their lasting good looks (they don’t weather like wood does), their versatility, and the fact that they require little to no maintenance such as staining. Fencing companies typically charge per linear foot for vinyl fence installation. They calculate their estimates based on materials to be used, height of fence, linear feet of the proposed fence, and the accessibility of the terrain. If the workers need to level the land before work begins, your vinyl fence installation costs will probably increase. Vinyl fences are typically more expensive than wood or chain-link. For example, one company might charge $19-$22 per linear foot for a basic 6-foot vinyl privacy fence. Another company might charge $25-$35 per linear foot for standard vinyl fencing, while decorative fencing with custom detail could increase that cost to $50 per linear foot. For a 6-foot-high white vinyl privacy fence with two walk-through gates (plus demolition and disposal of the old fence), the cost of the total project could run $8,000. A 4-foot-high, 36-linear-foot white picket vinyl fence with one gate could cost $2,600.

How much does it cost to install a wood fence?

Help define your property line, protect your home and yard, and boost your curb appeal with a new wood fence. The national average for wood fence installation cost is $3,250. Wood fence installation costs will vary based on your geographic location, the type of wood you select, the height and style of wood fence you desire, and the condition of your property. Pressure-treated pine is a common and attractive choice that is usually resilient against rot and bugs. Cedar is another budget-friendly option that, although more expensive than pressure-treated pine, can be more affordable than redwood or teak. A wood fence requires maintenance to ensure its long-term health and beauty, so keep future staining and painting costs in mind when you’re calculating fence installation costs. Here are some examples of how height and material affect the approximate cost of wood fences:

  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $15-$17 per linear foot.
  • 4-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence: $13-$20 per linear foot.
  • Cedar fence: $18-$25 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, double-sided (meaning both sides are uniform), pressure-treated pine fence with 6x6 posts: $25 per linear foot.
  • 12-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with custom detailing: $75 per linear foot.
  • 6-foot-high, pressure-treated pine fence with a custom lattice top: $30-$50 per linear foot.

How much does it cost to install a fence gate?

Adding a gate to your fence can be a practical way to provide access to a yard, work area or outdoor living space while ensuring safety and privacy. Gate installation costs will vary based on the gate material you select, the size of your gate, whether you install a fence at the same time, and any special features you’d like to add. Standard opening size for a single-wide gate is 4 feet; a double-wide gate is 8 feet. A small gate may be for decoration; a double-wide gate can be mounted on a rolling caster system to allow access for cars or wide loads. Here are some examples of average fence gate installation costs:

  • 4-foot, single-swing chain-link gate: $100 for materials and installation costs.
  • 28-foot wheeled chain-link gate on a caster system: $800-$1,000 for materials and installation costs.
  • 4-foot, single-swing wood gate: $75.
  • 8-foot double-wide wood gate: $150.
  • 4-foot white vinyl walk-through gate: $300–$400 for materials and installation costs.
  • 8-foot, double-wide white vinyl gate: about $800 for materials and installation costs.
  • White vinyl gate fence more than 8 feet wide: $1,200-$1,500 for materials and installation.
  • Arched black powder-coated aluminum pool gates: $175-$200 per gate.
