I enlisted the help of Arbor Tutors to help me with test prep for grad school. Oh man! I am SUPER happy I did that. The tutoring manager walked me through the whole process and set me up with TWO tutors. They also said I could change tutors at any time, but I didn't need to. I was accepted into all of my top choices (Columbia, Penn, Cornell and Duke). I used the application services also (they reviewed my essays).
Jim really connected with my son, made him feel more confident about preparing for and taking the SAT. He was also really helpful through the college application and essay writing process. Highly recommend--will use again for my 2 younger children!
Ray has been phenomenal to work with. My daughter worked with him on her application for college and college essays. He is very knowledgeable, easy to talk to, responds right away and has very good (and mature) insight. I have recommended him to my friends and would highly recommend him to anyone that is applying to school.
What a great advisor for college application help. He helped my daughter target colleges that were a good fit for her and write exceptional essays that captured her personality. He also helped her boost her reading sat score when he saw that was the weakest part of her app.
I had Nataliya for SAT tutoring and I was very pleased with the way she taught the material. She made things simple to understand and always made sure that the problems were fully understood before moving on. Nataliya teaches in a manner that is fun and relatable. After just a few SAT practices and tutoring sessions I began to see improvement in my Math and Critical Reading. She even helps with the college application process so that it's less stressful than it already is. I highly recommend this tutor!
Hallie just began tutoring my 22 year old son in college-level chemistry. They established a good connection and he feels she can help him to get through the year successfully.
Marshall of College Buddha provides excellent and knowledgable information and advice. He knows his stuff! He can lead students to think both in and out of the box about college choices and can really help them create a list of colleges both parents and students will be satisfied with. I highly recommend College Buddha for any family trying to navigate the confusing college application process.
Jackie helped me with my statement of purpose for my Columbia grad school application. To be completely honest I had used another Thumbtack resource which was a well-meaning person but, didn't help me in crafting the message I was trying to create. This experience turned me off to Thumbtack initially but, I did my due diligence at looking at other tutors, and I am glad I did. Jackie is good at listening to your thoughts/ideas looking at your draft and guiding you towards the message you are ultimately trying to convey in your voice. The result was a statement of purpose that gave a glimpse into who I was a person and why I was a good applicant. I am glad I chose Jackie as today I found out I GOT INTO THE GRAD PROGRAM :). I'd highly recommend her if you are looking for any help with college admission essays :).
Samantha coached my daughter (now a college freshman) with her college essays and provided valuable insights that helped Alyssa craft a more personal and impactful essay. Samantha’s mentoring also instilled confidence and helped Alyssa mentally prepare for the college application process. Samantha is a bright, personable and accomplished young woman, and a terrific essay coach.
I have recently worked with Stephanie during my college application process and she was such a great help to me. She worked with me on my applications and college research and was extremely helpful to me in identifying the college that was my best fit. I would encourage anybody who is applying to college to meet with her because she will help make this process less stressful and a whole lot more enjoyable!
I hired Jon and his staff for Sat preparation for my daughter who was in 11th grade and they were exceptional. Not only did they raise my daughter's score by a whopping 630 points but helped with the entire college application process landing a 35 thousand dollar scholarship to NYU. I cannot praise them enough.
Seamus worked with my daughter last fall during the very stressful college application process. The task of writing the critically important Common Application essay, as well as the supplemental essays required by each college, seemed overwhelming. Over the course of two months Seamus guided, calmed, and helped her to shape numerous essays. He assisted her in developing meaningful ideas and finding her voice, which led to beautiful and honest writing. Seamus spent unpaid hours editing her work, bringing revisions to their subsequent tutoring sessions. He understands exactly what the schools are looking for in the essay submissions and he is able to ensure that the writing meets those expectations. Most importantly, Seamus is a patient, humorous, and kind person who is able to build close relationships with adolescents, allowing them to shine even in the most stressful of circumstances. My daughter will be attending Middlebury College next fall and I believe that the essays were pivotal in her admission.
I contacted Robert after being impressed by his tutoring philosophy. Having only a few months of being tutored by him, the end result was getting to the 98th percentile from the 93 percentile for me. Robert is one of the most patient tutors I have ever had (I have received tutoring since 8th grade), and he explains everything clearly. Follow his logic and do not be afraid to ask any questions about anything. He is an expert on the whole organization of test prep, and he will provide you with the most useful websites for additional test prep. In addition, he is knowledgeable about other subjects as well, which is why I continue to seek his help with my issues in college such as time management and study skills. While working with Robert on the ACT we spoke about other areas of my education as well as my college plans. I came to realize that Robert took a sincere interest in my overall well-being, and consistently made suggestions that invaluable to me on many fronts. Within a few weeks I began to call upon him to help me with my educational plan and college applications. Together, we developed strategies to strengthen my application and Robert helped me to develop my college essays. We went through the trials and tribulations of the college application process, and every step of the way Robert was there to help guide me. Even today, as a freshman at an Ivy League university Robert was there to help me with course selection in addition to many of the challenges an incoming student faces on a college campus. One thing that struck me the most is his ability to understand people, especially how one person responds to different situations. This is important because he is able to understand what is exactly preventing someone from achieving the best of their ability. For example, there was a specific component that I was struggling with my coursework, and he helped me overcome that problem after identifying a specific study limitation that I did not know I had. Over time, he has become a mentor for me. Truly you will be very lucky to have Robert as a tutor because he goes above and beyond for you, and young adults need someone to guide them through difficult times.
Our overall experience with Jenna has been nothing short of excellent. From the first time meeting Jenna to getting my daughter into her first choice college, she helped make the college process less stressful than it would have been. She guided us in the right direction, kept us up to date with deadlines, helped complete applications, essays, resumes, and short answers. She constantly followed up via text or email to ensure we were crossing all of our "t's" and dotting all of our "i's". Before helping with anything she always made sure it was perfection. As the college applications wrapped up, Jenna kept going and encouraged my daughter to apply for scholarships. She was very knowledgeable and kept us informed of all scholarships and worked very hard getting ours done. It doesn't matter If you are looking for just a little help or the complete package, Jenna will always do her best to help and go above and beyond the minimum. She is very passionate about helping kids and it's not just a job for her... she truly cares
Michelle has been working with my daughter who is now a junior for 2 years now. She has been unbelievably helpful in finding us suitable colleges to which she should apply as well as explaining to all of us how the college application process works and how it has changed since my husband and I were last involved with it. Not only that, but she has helped my daughter select courses in high school and even improved her attitude toward certain classes when she explained to her how her grades or course of study will appear to colleges. She also steered us toward the best way for our daughter to study for standardized tests. Michelle is easy to talk to and very knowledgeable. I highly recommend the College Spy!
My daughter had an excellent experience working with the consultants at MY IVY ALLY. She not only raised her SAT scores by 375 points but also got accepted into her top choice college UPENN this year. We worked with Ritu and her consultants to work out a test strategy, started list of selected colleges and then work our way through the applications. We worked with them via skype and they were available to us via text, email and phone whenever we needed them. Congrats and keep the good work going!
Andre was my tutor for a few months while preparing for college applications. He's very patient and engaging and acts like a real mentor. When I met him I was scoring around 1900 and I ended up scoring a 2110 on my last SAT. Andre is very professional and truly cares about his students. I highly recommend him as a teacher.
I help high-school juniors and seniors with finding the right college fit as well as complete applications. I also help fill out their financial aid applications and find appropriate scholarships.
I am a 24-year-old graduate of Dartmouth College, with dual degrees in History and Economics, who has been living in New York City since graduation. I am looking to work with high school students in need of writing, English and college application help.
