Jason and his son did a great job re-grouting the tile in my bathroom and installing ceiling fans in two rooms. Communication and scheduling was easy. He was knowledgeable and his pricing was within my budget. I'd recommend him to anyone! Thank you!!

Sebastian was very prompt and professional. He was asked to silicone toilets and a backsplash. I thought that the backsplash turned out well. His workmanship on the toilets however was quite crude - not at all what I had expected or seen of other jobs and hard to fix once that silicone was laid down (see photo). I also had to supply painter's tape - not something which was communicated beforehand and something that I hasten to think buyers should need to know else they can expect worse results. I have contacted The Service Guys in the hopes of having at least one toilet re-siliconed (where I have already cut away some of the excess silicone that missed the gap, making it an easy touch up). I will update if that happens.

We hired Marty for installing backsplash tiles in our kitchen. I cant say enough good things about Marty, he is a wonderful worker. He did such a great job with the backsplash. He is very neat and meticulous with his work. He would not stop until he completes the work he planned for that day. We have been so happy, that we have hired him to do more work like replacing the bathroom vanity, fireplace surround install, ceiling fans, Garage door install. He can do everything you ask him to do. He charges very reasonably for his service as well. We are so happy we found him on thumbtack.

I hired Tony for a fairly challenging stone tile cleaning and grouting project. He was very professional and efficient: - Provided a quote based on photos of the tiles/shower area so it didn't take multiple appointments to get the job done - Was able to schedule the work immediately - Estimated 4 hours to complete the project onsite but was able to finish faster - Offered a follow-up visit if any additional work was needed once the tile and grout was ready for use I just recommended Tony to my neighbor across the hall for similar work.

Manuel was timely and did a very good job fixing rotten backerboard, reaffixing tiles, and grouting in our shower. His rates were very fair. We'd recommend him to others for tile/grout work.

Ted is a very experienced contractor who knows what he is doing. He clearly gave me a lot of inputs throughout the course of project. I hired him to remove the wall between the dinning and kitchen and then looking at his work I gave him many other add-on projects such as building a kitchen island, cabinets, building a wet bar, backsplash tiles etc., He is a punctual guy who shows up to work on time. Not to mention he is a very friendly. He fixed many other small things outside of the project and was kind enough to not include in invoice. I am not going to look for contractors for any kind of home remodeling projects. I was away for family vacation and he helped in coordinating with counter top guys to get the work done. Payments: He took payments as and when the job is done. He send pictures of the job as and when it is done to make sure the end result is as planned. That helped me a lot to see things as it happens when I was still busy at my work. Stop your search and hire him to get the work done!

I was 100% satisfied with the work I had done by this company! They were very helpful and accommodating from the receptionist who answered the phone to the man who came to do my work. They came to my house the same day that I called! The gentleman who came to clean my tile and grout in my kitchen was prompt, knowledgeable, nice and thorough. My floors came out amazing!! The price they gave me was more reasonable than any other company around. I will definitely use this company for any other work in my house that I need!

When my tenant informed me that tiles in the shower were falling off and there was mold on the material behind the tile I was very concerned. The stress of finding the right person to correctly do the job and satisfy my high expectations and more importantly complete the job within my tenants time expectations was overwhelming. My wife recommended Thumbtack and that is where I found Camilo. Camilo came out to look at the job and worked with my tenants schedule. He was skilled in the scope of the work and what needed to be done to do the job correctly. (removing all tiles and material behind the tile, new insulation, wonder board and tile for the entire shower) He quickly turned around a quote and was willing to work with me on price to meet my budget. Scheduling a time frame to do the job was easy with Camilo's constant communication. After the job was complete to my satisfaction, my tenant noticed an issue with the shower fixtures. Camilo and his team came back and addressed my tenant's concerns without me having to worry about it. Appreciate the professionalism Camilo. Barry

The grout in our bathroom shower area was starting to show its age and so my girlfriend and I searched for a handyman to take care of the job. We reached out to Doug on Thumbtack and he was extremely responsive on the platform. Doug shot us a few questions regarding the work and we sent over a few pictures to help him detail. He then sent us back a quote and a summary of what he hoped to be doing. We set a time for the upcoming weekend and Doug came prepared and on-time to start the job. Like all jobs, estimating what the job would entail is only half the battle. Due to the situation with our bathroom, Doug had to get some power tools and come back for another visit which we knew going into this might happen. Our bathroom is quite old and there are some secrets to it that we're still discovering everyday. It took Doug three short visits to complete the job, but he was meticulous in his work and really brought the shower area back to its glory. Doug is pretty patient -- once he's taken on a job he's definitely invested in the final outcome. If you are on site during the job, he'll stop to let you know how the progress is going and fill you in on how he hopes to tackle the next problem. I was off site on the third visit and Doug texted me while I was out to let me know status and any major breakthroughs. I didn't ask him for this but he went out of his way to communicate which is always appreciated.

We had a good experience with Tom. He showed up on time every day, gave a very reasonable estimate, and was a very hard worker. We're noticing some small issues since completion of the project (having to do paint touch-ups, remove hardened grout from floor/walls, and reinstall a towel bar that wasn't flush to the wall), but generally, we're very happy with the final product, which was a complete 180 from our original bathroom.

Felipe did an excellent job on fixing up my bathroom tiles and grout. He was able to identify that my tiles were falling because of water damage on the board behind them and easily replaced the board and put the tiles back in place. It looks great and he was extremely fast. He was also very courteous about keeping it clean after. I would hire him again without hesitation.

Ken did a great job repair and replacing about 34 crack ceramic tiles. Ken and his son Austin work very hard and and extremely professional. I also hired Ken to clean and recolor my grout to a nice brown color. My floor look great due to the hard work by Ken and his son. Highly recommend his craftmanship.

Arkadiy, is skilled and completed the repair work I asked for. He is extremely honest and will give you good advice and discuss the options. He will ask your opinion and work with you even if he disagrees. An example of the last point, I asked to patch and spot paint my walls, he told me several times that the paint needs to be an exact match or else l'll notice a difference... we rushed our choice and now I need to repaint the hallway, live and learn! I would hire Arkadiy again, his day rate is reasonable. Ben

A+ experience reversing a terribly botched tile job in shower and kitchen done by general contractor less than two years ago. Excellent/easy communication, worksmanship, and reasonable price when compared to other quotes. Would recommend for sure or work with again.

Expert Tiles was recommended to me by an ecstatic co-worker as true experts in the field. And I must say I didn't regret for a minute hiring these guys. In fact, I will go on to spread the word about them. The mosaic and tile job they did on my kitchen and bathroom was flawless. They were professional, quick, attentive to my needs and they cleaned up after themselves. This is the way it should be done in the modern world, but sadly, such level of quality is rare. Big thumbs up to you guys and keep up the perfection!

Q & A

Answers to commonly asked questions from the experts on Thumbtack.

How can I get my grout clean?

Dirt, mildew and grime can make your grout lines look downright tragic. If you have the ability, DIY tile and grout cleaning is definitely doable. Your main obstacles are time, project size, availability of the right materials and effort. Your first step in tile and grout cleaning is making sure the surface area is cleaned of basic dirt and buildup and wiped down. Be sure not to use a bleach-based cleaning agent, which could react dangerously with the vinegar used in later steps.

Depending on the delicacy of your tile and grout, it may be wise to start with water and friction before proceeding to a cleaning solution. In the shower you can spray the area while brushing gently, or use a spray bottle filled with warm water on countertops or floors. If water won’t do the trick, try a solution of equal parts warm water and white vinegar, and repeat the gentle brushing motion. This combination should begin to lift dirt and grime from the grout. For additional tile and grout cleaning power, baking soda applied directly to grout lines and sprayed with your water vinegar solution can help suds off sticky grime. If your DIY cleaning solutions aren’t doing the trick, store-bought sprays and pastes may have more cleansing power. Rinse thoroughly after cleaning and enjoy your sparkling clean grout.

Tile and grout cleaning supplies include:

  • Old standard or electric toothbrush
  • Stiff bristle brush
  • Spray bottle
  • White vinegar
  • Commercial grout cleaner

How much does it cost to clean tile and grout?

The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Pros may charge a flat fee or by the square foot. Rates can vary depending on the type of tile and grout you have (more delicate tiles may mean specialized products or careful handwashing), how dirty your tile and grout are, and what part of the country you are in (regional labor rates and costs to do business affect costs). For example, one floor cleaning company charges 75 cents per square foot for tile and grout cleaning for projects that permit cleaning by machine. Another company may charge $30-$50 per hour for hand-cleaning of tiles. Companies often charge a minimum fee for services to ensure their business expenses are met when they accept a job, no matter how small. In addition, a tile and flooring cleaning professional may charge added fees, such as $25 or more, to move heavy furniture or appliances.

How do professionals clean tile and grout?

If you need tile and grout cleaning and don’t have the time or mobility for scrubbing your entire house on your hands and knees, it’s time to turn to the pros. Tile and grout cleaning professionals have industrial-grade machines designed for the sole task of cleaning the porous materials of grout and tile. Typically, a cleaning pro will come out to assess the job and provide you with a quote. Often they charge per square foot (for example, 75 cents per square foot), with higher prices or an hourly rate for areas that will need hand cleaning. The national average cost for tile and grout cleaning ranges from $190 to $250. Once onsite, the pros thoroughly clean the area by wiping or sweeping down and then vacuuming up any dry dirt. Next a chemical tile cleaner is sprayed over the surface, causing dirt to loosen and adhere to the spray; the industry term for this is “suspension.” The pros then clean the floor with professional-strength machines, which often use a combination of steam, brushes and vacuum to loosen, agitate and lift entrenched dirt. Your floor is then rinsed, removing all the spray. Usually a small room can be cleaned in under an hour. Applying a sealant afterward is recommend and will also affect cost.
